Just don't like that look! I know we all have different tastes but that can't be the way gaming is going :S
No, that is not the way it is going. I don't know too much how it is with Doom3 since I sold it back to EB Games. However I do own EQ2 and uninstalled it when I bought WoW in January. I agree with the plastic look. It is like they put saran wrapn on all the characters and such. However the real problem is that they are using the pixel shading on characters and rather than light be reflecting off characters it is really light being lit up on them. that is why you see the so called plastic look. If the lighting on objects were reduced by 50% then they wont "seem" so plastic.
However, you got to realize the graphics technology is at a threshold as John Carmack has been talking about. It still has a way to go before it is really cleaned up. However, there are a few companies that are using the shading technology a little better. Which you can see that in games like Half-Life2 and Battlefield 2. Now imagine if they used grahpics like we see in posts here. I think everyone would go back to Half-Life 1 and BF1942. Sorry, but that is the most evident thing I can say that proves this topic is just a waste of typing. Well, no more wating time for me then...Back to Battlefield and my big wait on WoW to release the 1.7 patch... Woohoo...a RPvP server is on the way.

Well I guess we just like different graphics. EQ2 is just a constant droolfest for me, running on balanced it's like 60 fps and its frokkin wicked. And in Doom 3 there is this one spot, I made a special game save just so I can look at it now and then, the floor has this living tissue growing out of it and oozing out of the hole with wires and stuff and dear god, it looks so gross I love it lol hard to believe with an X800xt you don't like it. Seriously I don't get it

Originally posted by Jimmy_Scythe The major problem with cell shading is that there are legions of people that think cartoons are for kids. No matter how serious, dark or mature the subject matter is, these people will still percieve it as being aimed at children because it looks like a cartoon. This is the reason why you can still occasionally find Akira and Fritz The Cat in the childrens sections of Blockbuster. This is the reason that a woman sued cartoon network after her son mimicked something he saw on FLCL, a show that was aired after midnight on Adult Swim. Because of this, macho insecure male teenagers will hate any and everything that looks "too cartoony". In fact, anyone that's worried about looking "mature" will hate any and everything that looks "too cartoony". I personally like cell shading so long as it fits the games theme or atmosphere. As a wannabe indie developer, I also like the fact that it makes low polygon models look really, really good.
I couldn't agree with you more, i just had an arguement with a friend last night about the same thing (not about cell shading, but about anime). I told her almost word for word what you said. But i must ad that some people have a problem with animation because they don't want to look like a "nerd" or a "geek". In the case of my friend, i believe that and a mixture of seeming immature or childish is true. She actually likes anime, and the reason she doesn't give it a try is because she knows she'll get addicted to some of it. So she pretends to hate it, and will adamantly refuse to watch any of it.

If you can't beat 'em, hold 'em off 'till you come up with a better plan.
The thing is that most cell shaded games that are coming out are made by smaller companies. I do like the look of cell shaded MMORPGs better than any other type but it's a sham that most of the games released are low quality budget games.
That MOOD looks so amazing!!! HOLY CRAP IM DLING IT RIGHT NOW!!! w000t! But seriously, Like ROSE online or whatever, its seriously pathetic, its a little kiddy game, and you guys are intrigued by it? I mean wth? Toontown got a 7.1 Rating.. what is going on.... But back to cell shading, if its used the right way it can be wicked awesome, but if its like it is in in Rose, its terrible, i dont want to be a little tiny anime character that doesnt look cool. I like a game thats fun, and for me, when your character looks stupid it takes the fun out of the game.
EDIT: where is the english version for that site i swear i saw it somewhere...

Originally posted by Dekoth I am a huge Zelda Fan as I gre up on the original. However everytime I hear the term Cell Shading I immeditally get nightmarish flashbacks to the atrocity of Windwaker. That game was an embarrassment to the franchise. And pretty much every game I have ever seen with "Cell shading" looks just as bad.
And that's your opinion. Personally, I think Wind Waker was the first game to get cel shading right. Is that the only thing you disliked about it? Gameplay wise, it was nearly identical to Ocarina of Time.
I loved the graphics and i thought it was like all the others!
I found it a little hard and annoying at times.
Would be nice to get a mmorpg Zelda
There is. or there are some Zelda MMORPG's One not sure but think it is semi grpahical, but there is also a Zelda OoT version of a MMORPG coming out as well. Well here is what I have found...
not much of a Zelda fan ever since Wind Waker came out. Both me and my son were big Zelda fans ever since the first Nintendo. Infact it was Wind waker that made us decide to go to Xbox instead of getting the NGC. Both of us were very disappointed when we saw the graphics of Wind Waker.
In my opinion it was a slap in the face to its fans and they just simplified the graphics for wind waker to make it easier to produce more titles faster. Story or not, taking a back seat of graphics is not a way to step ahead. Anyway, yes this is my opinion and what I think. What, you want me to express your opinion? Forget it! I rather go play a MUD than spend money on a series that died after Majora's Mask. Don't believe it, then why did Xbox sell so well? Plus why is Twilight Princess using a advanced version of what OoT uses?
Cell Shading is a cop out to quick releases only to aid developers that have only one desire and that is profit. It is bad enough that game development companies focus so much on only money and not providing the consumer with valueble entertainment. However pushing that desire into the development room is a disaster. Cell shading has no future and only is a visual concept of the past. We have gone so far ahead with graphical details in a game that at this level the content and game mechanics are are starting to catch up. Using Cell shading is a joke and only used by desparate companies that got all you kids hooked on games like Poke'mon and other asian crap games. Wake up, cartoons are taking on a new form, WoW is a perfect example how that is changing for you cartoon fantasy wannabes.

Yes but WEBZEN games dont actually exist, they are just ideas :S
Look at MU online, it never came out of beta and is full of hackers! Now a small company wants to make like 5/6 mmorpgs all in one go :S Impossible!

Hmm..for me I think a cell shaded MMORPG would detract from the roleplayish aspect of the game. But that's just me..

the link should work. Nah it's not made by TQ Digital....to my knowledge.
