Hi guys, first of all again, ty for all the answers, I consider this forum the MMO's most important forum.
I have to admit one thing, I hate to level, I hate to grind, in fact I think I've been playing just MMOs since a long time and this became boring... like you all say in some posts the games are all the same model... leveling.. grinding.. instances... warfronts... etc.
I was thinking about how it would be so nice if there was a game, a crossbreed between a FPS and a MMO. I would be a totally PVP oriented game but with classes, with lots of builds and even some gear but in a way where the gear still keeps the balance of the players, since what I don't like is that its very hard to find a player and pvp with him that has the gear as you. So sometimes you got killed or kill someone just because of the gear power. In this game what would be important would be the player skill... like a FPS but with the amazing MMO stuff like builds, spells etc.
What you think? Am I tripping to much?

Check out Planetside and Planetside 2. There's also WWII Online. I think there's a lot of speculation that there will be a Halo Online MMO type game at some point as well.

Errrr.. Sorry I forgot to mention one major important thing I don't want the game to in First Person. I like the MMO classic view in third person got it. I checked Planeside... its First Person.

I would be very difficult to do, they attempted it with Hellgate London and tried to improve upon it with the update. Maybe if they made it playable with a console controller? I seem to recall a WoD game for PS2 or 3 can't remember which, that was like this, sortof in between, it had the hunter faction in it. Does anyone else recall that one? It would be fun to see that come to the pc/console combo market again with updated graphics and interface and then give it the melee functions similar to hellgate.
That would be fun if they could pull that off. It would need a speshal set of devs to do it tho.
Dust 514 is apparently more MMO then I thought it was supposed to be. From what I read I just kind of expected an online shooter, but from what I'm hearing it's actually a ground based EVE with PvE and character development.
Of course it's PS3 only. But if you already have a PS3 or were already planning to get one, it'll be F2P with a cash shop. CCP has stated that you will be able to buy weapons and armor and such on the cash shop, but it'll be the same stuff you get in game, only a different variation so you get no advantage.
Just the fact that it'll be F2P and connected to the EVE universe makes it enough to play in my book.
Sorry guys I expressed myself in the wrong way. I use the word FPS meaning that is a total deathmatch or pvp oriented, where you login in the game to fight players, always. Didn't mean to say that it would be a FPS format.
Planetside 2?

Sounds like GW1.
Gear is not a deciding factor, build complexity and player skill are.
When all has been said and done, more will have been said than done.
Remember Old School Ultima Online
So something like the War hammer game that's nothing but doing battlegrounds? You select a hero and join a typical MMO battlground to fight other players and level your heros to gain new skills. No PvE at all. Really just a MOBA.
Or Archlord. I think it's primarilly just fighting each other.
Darkfall maybe, but you'll end up having to do some amount of PvE to increase skills due to the amount of time it takes to progress a charcter. It's pretty much all about running around beating each other when though.
Borderlands was not an mmo but its entire structure was mmo like.
The entire game felt like an mmorpg. It was a FPS, yet had skill trees like WoW, quests like WoW, instances, XP, gear, levels on yourself and mobs, the whole bit. You could play with other people.
Now while it wasnt an mmorpg, it was so incredibly mmo like, that Id say sure. It could be done.
It seems like a riddle.

Own, Mine, Defend, Attack, 24/7
The only 1 million internet game in the world!
The other nine hundred and ninety nine thousand and nine hundred and ninety nine potential enemies or allies!
Own
Mine
defend
attack
24/7
In short, all the makings of a monster hit!
Was I supposed to laugh through all that? I thought cheesy previews were the trademark of the movie industry. That was just awesome!
Actually it wouldn't be a problem to develop a game like this, the question is, if people want to play it.
Let's have a look, how it could look like....
You create a character with lot's of customization-options and to diversify the whole thing between characters even more, you're even asked to allocate points into your attributes (strength, intelligence, speed, etc..)
You're thrown into the world with the starter-gear and ready to explore the world. All items need to be crafted by players and the ressources fro them need to be harvested in the open world, where you're allways prone to be targeted by others.
Players can group up and form clans. Clans can build storages, factories, etc where they're able to craft more advanced things, but the buildings are prone to be destroyed by others ofc, so you need to defend them constantly.
For the loners, there's the starter-city where you can store things and build basic gear in the factories. It's also are the market-place and PvP is not allowed there for obvious reasons.
If you're killed, you drop everything you're having with you, and you spawn at the next cloning-station, where you're given a new set of starter-gear. The starter-gear needs to be of the kind you can't reprocess for materials.
This would be the basic idea of a level-less and class-less shooter-style MMO. No quests, no item-grind, no NPC-mobs to kill and loot and 100% dependant on teamwork.
All it's about is fighting each other and to gather ressources for crafting a better set of equipment, however, there's only the starter-gear, the normal gear and the advanced gear, and they're not too widespread. Maybe a mere 10% boost between the thre different sets.
It's 100% doable, but I don't think that there'll be a developer to ever do something like this, as people like to get rewarded, which they don't really get in a game like this. There's no progression there.
Even EvE, DF, MO and the like have progression aswell as PvE so that people feel rewarded.
EDIT: The mentioned 10six comes close, but you should asked yourself, why it never catched attention by a wider audience.
Ya its funny they have a guy that sounds like the movie voice guy and the begining looks like a home movie.
PS It never caught on cause of hacks and as soon as you start ur lost and get abused by everyone else for a week till you join a mdn. When you lose everything most people tend to quit.
Own, Mine, Defend, Attack, 24/7
I believe Firefall is what you are looking for. I am currently playing it atm, although the PvE is fairly limited since it is in closed beta, but they are slowly expanding the PvE.

imo you guys are all off target.
Hi guys cool lots of answers.. thanks for all the info.
I checked all the info you all give. Seens GW1 and Fury is near what I was meaning. You guys said that in GW1 its more pvp oriented right? But do I have to level the char? Have to grind and all? Does it take long to level?
No pun intended.
You don't have to level at all in GW1 you can create a PvP specific char and it starts at cap. You can go through the leveling if you want by creating an RP char, but if you want nothing but PvP just create a PvP char and go.
OP, try Fallen Earth.
It's an MMO with FPS type combat, in 3rd person.
