While that is technically F2P, it's a free trial, not a whole game.

    ** edit **
    Is that Noriyuki "Pat" Morita?

I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.

I read it as "permenant free, low-level-capped trial" as is in WAR.

I want a mmorpg where people have gone through misery, have gone through school stuff and actually have had sex even. -sagil

Not really anything ground breaking, all they are doing is the same thing lots of other games have already done.

Didn't rift do this roughly around the same time in the product lifespan?

Essentially "try before you buy" - the preferred option of many big MMOs to grab at the on-the-fence crowd.

I'd go back if it was truly F2P.  The game's just not worth the sub for me, but I do wish I stuck with it long enough to finish my personal story.

So that means that Wow is f2p as well right.  They give you pretty much the same thing up to 20 for free.  This is not f2p this is a demo the same thing as when you download a demo of the first level of any game.  You would not say Mass Effect 3 is free because they have a free demo and SWTOR is still not free.

Yes I started a Rift free trial right around the 6 to 8 month mark.  However Rift was a 2 week free trial if I remember and not a level cap "demo" free trial.  Rift also dropped price I paid I believe 19.99 for it at that time after my trial was over.

guess it's the standard now; why to pay a sub when you have so many F2P games to pass the time?  I didn't expect the game to go F2P so soon though

With the server mergers comng up I feel this is a good thing, may people want to try the game out  but does not want to shell out $50 to do so.

you do make a good point... it's indicated as "F2P" on the TORwars site, but at the link on their site it's indicated as a permanent free trial.

Is a free trial, like free to level 10 or free days to try the game, something like that, and is maybe because the found that people actually is buying the game after the free weekends.

  • RobsolfRobsolf Member RarePosts: 4,607

If that's considered free to play, then pretty much every MMO is free to play.

Rift did Rift Lite at the 11 month mark, this sounds the same as Rift lite or the WAR,WOW trials where you play to lvl 15 or 20,it's like a perma trial.http://massively.joystiq.com/2012/02/01/rift-lite-announced-makes-first-20-levels-free-to-all/

  • BardusBardus Member Posts: 460

So it's nothing different than they have already been doing, the way I read it.  Play to level 15 for free.  Only difference is we don't need a buddy pass or a weekend. Oh, and the thing where they count free trial users as subscribers. Can't leave that out.

lol you and I know how 90% of people that post on MMORPG.COM are angry haters , this site is for MMO fans that do not play any MMO just like the ides of MMO's no matter what MMO comes out they will never be happy, the only MMO that they play is on the forums.

Should be called MMOHATERS.COM if you ask me.

This is nothing more than the next confirmed step towards faildom for this game, the free client is coming around the bend in a couple of months.

  • XerithXerith Member Posts: 970

Really has nothing to do with when the game does it in its lifespan anymore, expect most MMO"s coming out in the next year or so to do this either at release, or right after. There are just simply too many MMO's coming out for companies to expect people to spend $60 each time. All this is, is the next step in marketing evolution, first there were "open betas" now there are unlimited free trials.

welli suppose its a start..but on another hand it maybe just a way to bump the numbers for shareholders,..there i go again with my doom and gloom.wont do the game any harm tbh....so good luck to them.

it says "goes F2P, but only for low level padawans"

Im thinking they want to take the Rift route for free to lvl 20

edit: i wish it was a full f2p forever thing with CS

So true. Every MMO I know of has a free trial. This is for people who want to try the game yet don't want to shell out the box price to play it. As much as people around here whine about how expensive this "single player game" is, you'd think they would be happy with this. Players get to try the game free, they see how "awful" it is and the big bad devil that is EA doesn't get any money.
