CoH gave old players a 5 day trial for Labor Day weekend, so I've been checking it out and I have been having a blast.

Everybody is worried and complaining about nerfs and this or that can't solo, and maybe in the upper levels they can't, but I've gone from level 1-20 pretty much solo. I did group a couple of times, but not because I had to to finish missions, someone asked if I would join their group, I said sure.

The community for the most part is pretty good. I wouldn't rate it as high as SWG's community, but it is a lot better than WoW's. The downside to the community is you can't really help anyone or you'll be accused of Kill Stealing. True story happened today: Guy was level 4 fighting some level 5 mobs. I was level 2 Force field/Energy Defender. Guy (a scrapper) had one bad guy left, bad guy wasn't hurt, Guy was almost dead. I shoot a minor damage/Knockdown attack. I missed, the guy used some high damage attack and really hurt the mob, so I figured okay he's got the bad guy, and went on my way. 3 seconds later I get a /tell saying "Dude you don't need to kill steal". I shot once and MISSED and still got accused of KS'ing.

The downside to the game is of course, there is nothing to do but fight. The game gets horriblly repeditive and boring (great for 5 days though).

    Hi,

CoH is worth a go, its a laugh with a few mates. Just dont expect anything to do at max level (50) but to level another character, until you reach max level the game is truly worth every bit of money spent. I have 3 max level characters, and waiting for CoV.

The comminuty is very good, lots of friendly people willing to help, haven't bumped into any nasty yet :)

Don't like the changes to the tankers in the I5 patch though, but thats on another post :)

thx much for the input so far

    a few more questions
how many days played did it take u to get 50?

also how repitive is the game compared to WoW and FFXI?

and how much does your character change when you level up, in wow u just got the same old moves just more powerful.

    thanks ::::02::

I'm no expert but I can offer my own personal experience playing the game and hopefully answer of your questions. I'm not sure about total days because in CoH most people go by hours total played which generally seem to be 800+ based on which archtype you play. My fire/axe tanker on his way to 50 racked up about 960+hours because I didn't team much and stood around helping and talking with friends. YMMV.

The game can seem to be an endless cycle of rinse and repeat because after about level 30 or 20 in some cases all the layouts for indoor missions become second nature to you and can be easily ran through, the mobs change, the click on this glowies change(computers, weapons racks so on) and the entrances change via level and city and such but it can be very repetitive, with the kill x amount of y, outdoor missions seem to break the mold alittle.

The leveling up aspect is about the best part although sometimes doesnt feel that way. Every alternate level you either get more slots to enhance powers or get to pick another power. It is a definite bonus to certain archtypes because at certain levels that archtypes defining power or something that makes a player drool with the powers "neat" factor aide most players to continue on. Oh and capes(if its your thing are availble at 20, travel powers open up at 14 so on) I believe its implemented so you have a few levels that are WOOT! new awesome power that really shines on my character and some levels are yay--I needed to get that power to get the next power at 20 so on. Some of the powers indeed make the game.

Just my .02 influence worth on the subject..ymmv...playing with friends or with an active supergroup can really help to alleviate the tedium and help curb the boredom, I agree tho about the level 50, you can either do raids over and over again...same monster so on, do costume contests for lowbies, or start the grind over with another toon.

---I'm not trying to hurt you, I'm simply saving you from that hideous costume you're wearing.

400 hours was enough to get to 50, I think I took 600 myself...now XP come easier and faster, as long as you are grouped.

The moves evolves and the battles are fast. But there is a limit, you have 18 powers and each have 1 different animation, since you usually use 2-4 differents offensive powers, you see 2-4 differents attacks in the end...but they change a little as you progress to there, you get like 7 attacks or so in your offensive power (I disacrd 1 that you usually dislike and that is weird for your line, and I discard the build up/aim...).

You get 4 VERY customizable costumes.

The game is only about combat, mostly grouped, but it is possible to solo to 50 (better then in any other game btw for solo, yet it is faster in groups). So if like me you enjoy combat and all you care about is to "arrest" villains and fight non-stop, the game is perfect. If you need a good story, the storyline is great once. If you needs something else, be it tradeskills or any non-combats activity, then you are at the wrong place.

The community is the best I ever see in a MMO except maybe pre-Kunark EQ.

Each time you level up, you make 1 choice of a new powers or a choice to make a power more effective...I think you have like 24 powers at 50 (unsure) and you must pick them among the 18 of your class and the 20 of your secondary and epic powers pool...many have pre-requisite of others powers or levels...or both.

There is no gear, only enhancements to try to equip to be as efficient as possible, they pretty much work like gear, once equip however they are jamn there for good.

The game is arguably the most repetitive game on the market, however if you LIKE that, it is not repetitive, you are enjoying it.

IMO CoH is the best MMO on the market...or the less bad, depend if I am positive or negative.

If you think LDoN was the best expension in EQ, dont think twice, jump in. If you think Velious was the best expension in EQ and LDoN ruin a lot, stay far away.

    Hi again,

It took me a little over a month to get to 50 with my fire / fire blaster. Had the supergroup + friends to help me, when I got to level 44 ish it started to get a bit like the same old, same old just wanted to hit 50 so we could give it a break and see the sun again.

OK maybe thats over donig it, sure was fun. Didn't take me so long to get to 50 with my fire / fire tanker maybe about 3/4 weeks but I was really going for it then. As soon as they released the changes for I5 and played it on the test server, I so wanted to get to 50 before the changes came in. Glad I 'power leveled' it to 50 with my tanker, but my storm controler is by far the cooliest character around, so powerful and loving the changes in I5

Some characters you love and some you hate. Leveling a Warshade again atm (didn't like my 1st one)

Still a good game after all this time, though I have give it a rest for a few weeks doing some IRL stuff :D

Imagine WoW, if all you ever did was go to a quest giver, go to an instanced dungeon then go back to the quest giver, rinse repeat TO MAX LEVEL. Now imagine that senario with no loot. Yep it gets REALLY repeditive.
