My favorite change is one that we have known about since the game was announced, and that is the territory control as well as the addition of resources.

In the first game, there were some issues that I always wanted them to solve with capturing/defending bases. It's tough to explain properly but I'll try:

First of all, there was a ton of wasted space in Planetside. All of the terrain between bases was mostly just distance you had to travel to get to the fighting. Now there were exceptions to this, choke points lime bridges for example, but the only things worth really fighting for outside of that were the bases themselves. I always wanted some other reason to fight fir a piece of land that wasn't necessarily a huge base.

I feel like the territory control will create more well defined fronts in the battle. If it works as planned we could end up having to fight our way accross an entire continent instead of just rushing to the bases. I like this. It makes the whole map valuable as opposed to just being the terrain you have to cross.

I think this will open up a whole new world of strategy and I love that. You won't just want to figure out how to get to that base and take it, but you will want to plan an attack on everything between you and the base you are after.

This system also gives a stronger icentive to defend territory outside of your bases and inside. I think it will be important to prevent the enemy from pushing you back to your base as well as protect the base itself.

Factions aren't just going to own bases, they will own land. The entire content will become a potential battlefield, not just the areas surrounding a facility and it's towers.

I think this mechanic (along with the mission system) is going to create a lot deeper strategic gameplay this time around. Not that Planetside was lacking in strategy really, but the territory control is going to take it to the next level. It is honestly the most exciting feature to me.

I also think the more modern shooter mechanics are important. Some will compare it to cod or battlefield, but It is a huge improvement over the originals combat (I hope). Planetside 1 didn't have bad combat by any means, but it is definitely ready for an upgrade.

Oh and I'm not excited about the loss of sanctuaries and continent locking. We will see how it goes, but I think these were mechanics that worked very well together.

I appreciate that they are trying to get people into the fights faster, but I don't think removing sancs was necessary to do that.
