If I recall correctly from the producer letters and dev replies, there should be a stream of information re 2.0 coming from now until August, where we will se the trailer.

I think they look amazing.  I am a Legacy member so sticking with FFXIV is paying off.  I love Yoshi-P, he's the best thing that's happened to FFXIV.

Looks amazing, but that's to be expected from a final fantasy.  The real problem is will the game play match.

I've been playing since yoshi-p took over.  I have never been a fan of Tanaka in FFXIV.

All of the changes by Yoshi-P are great.  I have some issues here and there, but overall, he's an amazing producer.  Recently, the addition of Hamlet Defenses are A LOT of fun, with crafters and gathers taking part in the content.

To be honest, I had no idea 2.0 would look this good.   I can't wait!

Looks good, i'll have to give the game another playthrough once 2.0 is out.

I'll bide my time.  I've seen many "miracle" patches come and go.  I wish Tau was still around so they could say whether they were still playing or not.

When 2.0 releases, I'll see what the consensus is.... but that's still what, a year out?

2.0 is due out for PC in October I believe and PS3 in January... looking at the timeline they released a while back.  If you already have the game, you just patch to the new client.  October is only 6 months away....

Looks really interesting. I wonder if they'll let existing players give the game a shot before subscribing or if we'll have to sub to try it out. Then again, I did enjoy FFXIV to some extent so might as well sub when 2.0 is out and see how it rolls. Still amazing to see the dedication of these developers to improve this game. Some other companies would've just shut down the servers long ago and moved on.

For companies like EA... it's about the bottom line.  Money Money Money.   Though all companies are in it for the money, some have a sense of honor.

SE allowed people to play the game for free for an entire year.  When they introduced the price model, people complained, and they reduced it to $10 a month until 2.0.  FF is SE's flagship.  It's more than just about money, it's regaining trust.

I know I played since launch (Had pre-ordered the CE).  Although...wasn't the monthly price something like 7$ for older players and 10$ for more recent players until 2.0 hits?

I like the FF feel to it. The ui and everything looks cool. But I know that gameplay simply wasn't that great even with changed combat system etc. Still it took me 4 tries to finally love FF 11 so I will give FF 14 a try with 2.0 definitely.

    Honest question,

Did they offer full refunds of the box price to those not inclined to wait a year or more for a satisfactory game ?

Nope, the game was sublesss for like a year because of it though.

~but seriously... when has anyone given a refund of a game "because you didn't like it", ever?

If you didn't like no. 11, or how FF games generally play, or just picked it up on a whim (the likely case), why do you feel you are owed something extra because of it? Should have expected as much.

Then again, maybe I should claim EA owes me 50$ for Warhammer sucking like it did. Surely it wasn't my fault for buying it... they had a gun to my head. Maybe NCsoft owes me 50 for Aion sucking and then going F2P. Definitely deserve 50 from RTW for going under in the middle of my playtime with APB, right?

Maybe I should file a class-action lawsuit against Microsoft for allowing them all to release on the Windows platform. Yeah, they definitely had a hand in it somehow.

No.  That would be unprecedented.  Keeping the game going and allowing people to play for free for an entire year, and then have a reduced subscription plan before 2.0 is pretty good.  I havn't seen any other company do half that after a "failed" launch.

I guess I respecfully disagree with you about the refund.  When I go to a movie after it's been "hyped" and it turns out to be a flop, I don't ask for my money back.

Any word on if they've toned down the ridiculous amount of invisible walls? That drove me crazy with this game.

I sit on a man's back, choking him and making him carry me, and yet assure myself and others that I am very sorry for him and wish to ease his lot by all possible means - except by getting off his back.

    Thank you for the responses.

The reason for the question was curiosity about the comment about regaining trust in the post I quoted.

Allowing people to play a game that the development company itself states is not worthy, seems a questionable approach to rebuilding trust. At that point the company has still taken money for what they know to be a subpar product. Telling people, "you can play the game that is not worthy of being paid for, for free," does not seem like much of an effort to regain trust.

A real effort to regain trust would have been, in my opinion, giving people their money back and then attempting to re-earn it with a product worth paying for.

Giving away for free a product that is not worth paying for, is not.

To be honest, just their willingness to admit that the product was subpar demonstrated a degree of honesty that is refreshing (to me). So many other companies would have tried to spin it as, "changes in the industry," or some similar BS. So dont get me wrong, I am not trying to flame the company here.

EDIT: And to clarify, I am not suggesting here (or in my previous post) that they should have given refunds. I merely asked if they did, because I did not know.  This is a game that I had been interested in, but avoided based on what I read around its launch. I am curious to see how its 2.0 relaunch goes.

The biggest issue with total *refunds* is the retail markup, and in it's case, dropped prices.

People that bought it for the clear 50$ gave roughly 40% to the shops and distribution services. By the time it dropped to 10-17$ dollars from subpar sales and bad reviews, then what? SE would lose tons of money out of their own pockets, not even what we all had originally paid them, in order to refund us. Thats why it just doesn't happen, ever.

The only recorded moment in history that was close was the GTA: San Andreas recall over the Hot Coffee thing. I bought the version that had it, and like many, didn't give a shit about turning it back in to get a different copy to sate angry soccer moms. Every copy still on the shelves, though, went back out and got landfilled... They lost a LOT of money.

I'm not as harsh in my response to SE's lackluster launch.  They apologized.  Admitted it was subpar and that they had violated the fan base's trust.  They continued to refine and fix the game, at no additional cost to the playerbase that decided to "tough it out."  They provided repeated content upgrades every three months.  They released a complete roadmap, with specifics on what they intended to do to regain the trust of the playerbase.  They have stuck to that roadmap.

When they decided to start charging for the game, because maintaining a 200+ development team costs money, they reduced the subscription fee based on player feedback.  To reward those who have stuck with the game, they offered a "Legacy" option which would lock in your monthly sub at $10/month for life, including unlimited character slots, and a unique chocobo styled mount for 2.0.

I don't know any other company, in any other circumstance that has done as much to "regain" lost trust.  Wanting a refund is unrealistic and in my humble opinion, "asking way too much."  If people don't want to "buy" (pun intended) into the hype based on SE's recent track record, no one will blame you otherwise.  Trick me once, shame on you, trick me twice, shame on me.

If you feel SE hasn't regained your trust, wait for 2.0 to be released, read reviews, maybe get a friend to offer you buddy pass, and decide for yourself if they're earned your committment.

BTW - did you know that because you bought the original game, all you hve to do is patch to 2.0?  You don't need to "re-buy" the game.

    Very good point.

I must admit that I was thinking about it from the point of a restaurant or a movie theater where a bad experience (horribly prepared food or children running around screaming during the film perhaps) generally does (in my experience) get a refund.

The devil is in the details as they say.
