Thank the maker, people will finally be able to RP.

edit: Are there climbable trees? If not, RPers are still screwed.

I've always liked chat bubbles since UO, never liked having to look down at my chat box all the time. Kinda like watching the cool-down bars, silly.

Everything but 1 sounds good to me. The change of the Mini-Map. I like the circle. The Square just looks odd...

Never cared about them, but there you go, I wish you happy RP-ing :)

You miss the point that you can now resize that map to any size you want!

Think somebody somewhere said that you can select a round map from options. Don't shoot me if this is a wrong rumour, though (unless you do it in WvWvW)!

...chat bubbles just to RP....   sigh.

You are role playing just by playing the game.  You're not actually in GW2... so now you RP while you RP.

    Inception role playing.

Chat bubbles are nice for locating who said what, especially when there are 30 people nearby and someone is asking for help.

Except chat is "local" across the zone you're in.  It's not a "say" as in traditional games.  Point refuted.

From the link in the first post:

    Improved Chat

Communication in general has been greatly improved, as well. We’re adding the much-requested chat bubbles, as well as map chat and an updated local chat function, both of which make it easier to communicate with other players.

    Point refuted.

While they don't make or break the game for me, the chat bubbles will help make things even more social, IMO.   Either way, I can't wait for this weekend!!!!

    Chat bubbles.

    Improved local chat.

    And ... Map chat??  O.o

I've always considered them an eyesore.

I've also never understood the need for them or why they were necessary to rp.

    Hopefully they are optional.

Yes, let's not get stupid now.  "Local chat", just like I stated in my post.  NOT a "Say" channel.  Local spans over the zone you're in.  You obviously aren't that smart if you can only link other posts which have already been stated, as if they makes a completely new point.

    The relevant section:

    Chat updates:

    • Local chat (Say) is now very short range. /Shout (/Map) at map range has been added.
    • Team chatting is prevented in all non-WvW and non-PvP maps
    • Team chat is now game-server based
    • Player scene and chatter lines are not shown as bubbles
    • Support for map-wide chat (/shout, /yell, /y) has been hooked up
    • /say and /local are now radius and reporting based instead of event based (current radius is 2000)

Chat bubbles do much more than assist rp. Those players who think they don't like them are typically used to games that didn't have them and played the majority of their group sessions using 3rd party communication apps or at the very least are games where forced grouping is required where communication becomes easier.

Chat bubbles make communication between non organized players MUCH easier. The option to turn them off for players who don't want them is that is needed but not having the option to have them at all is a design failure in games as fast paced as GW2 and one that does not require forced group structures.

I was going to go find that article as well but terrant beat me to it. Local chat  (a.k.a. Say) is no longer region wide and is now within a much shorter area,

Is this thread really about chat bubbles?

    Is it really important?

I think they are annoying and not needed, there is this thing called /w or /t that you can use to talk directly to a person or is that too much?

seeing the title I was thinking most of the thread would be...
