SE showed off a tech demo of their next egine, luminous studio, meant for next gen games and consoles / PC.
Had to link cause it's so awesome (not prerendered, it's running in real-time)

Once again, all I can say is, SQUARENIX, STOP MAKING GAMES! YOU CLEARLY WANT TO BE AN ANIMATION STUDIO!

Which FF Character Are You?
More boring baseless CGI
I am calm, I wish they could go back to old school FF games too, but its not the same company, there is no one with any gameplay talent left there, look at the last two numbered FF games, not a single good idea for single player or mmos. My point is that I've long since given up on SE as a game company, their best work of late was the CGI scenes for Deux3, as they did none of the gameplay for that. I am not upset or angry, I just don't understand why they try to make games anymore, we all know what they really want to do, and I would prefer it too.
Apparently the next FF game is gonna take place in Afghanistan.
I've run the official website through google trasnslate, and unless I missed something it doesn't say anything about this being a Final Fantasy game. As far as I can tell it's just a demo showing off the tech, using the Final Fantasy name to suggest future Final Fantasy games will share the same visual quality.
"Tech demo" not "game demo."
It's a choreographed video rendered by the game engine instead of pre-rendered with video/graphics editing software. It means the tech is to the point that the difference in visual and animation quality between gameplay and video cutscenes is negligible. It doesn't even mean that many games won't still use prerendered video anyway for the sake of efficiency (extra models, textures, scripts, etc. that won't have to be packed with the game).

Having a different opinion must mean you're a troll.
Just a real time tech demo, nothing more....
If it does turn out real, I hope they license it to other, far more competent dev studios. I've zero faith in their development teams when it comes to games.
Though I think they're still pretty boss at R&D and publishing... that's about it.
Maybe ya'll missed the part where this is a REAL TIME DEMO and not pre-rendered or CGI?
Technically, extremely impressive.
Once upon a time, they created cutting-edge FMV and CGI cutscenes AND great games.
As long as it wasn't a shit story like FF: Spirits within, I would watch any movie Square made that looked like that.
If that is what the game engine can produce, then by god I am excited about the future of consoles!! I can't wait to see CGI graphics turn into real time graphics. Can you imagine? Let's all just gather around and pray that at the end of this year the new consoles come out, and we see the visuals we just put our eye's upon!!
They can keep the Dark, Gritty, and rough style they have in that demo and give it more of an open world exploration like the old FF games and I would be a customer again.
My theme song.
This sums up my feeling about SE ever since the merger I just don't get them, maybe it's the fact that I kind of grew up a bit as far as my tastes in gaming around then but paying most FF games now is just embarassing I wouldn't really want anyone to kow I'm playing them with so many other more adult themed games out there.
Add that the translation to english makes the stories crap (unless they purposely make those confusing meaningless plots) and th somewhat childish style of the games I feel like my time as a Se fan has passed.
Gameplay + Immersion + Story > Any amount of amazing visual effects. I want to play games, not movies - in my opinion this is why Final Fantasy games starting going downhill after FFVII (and even VII focused a bit more on CGI than it really should have).
I thought that was pretty awesome!
<sarcasm>Yeah! Stop trying to do something different. WE ALL WANT THE SAME THING OVER AND OVER!</sarcasm>
If the point of this video was/is to show off the possibilities of their engines "in-game" GFX than it's pretty damn impressive. However, I'd like to know the system specs that engine is running on because I have a feeling the average gamer market simply couldn't afford what that engines displays.
