I will say they are very very impressive!
Agreed. Those character creation screens...yummy.
Apparently SE showed in game footage at E3 to a select few.

Looks really good. But so did the pos I bought a year n a half ago. Are there still going to be invisible walls everywhere? That killed it for me.
I sit on a man's back, choking him and making him carry me, and yet assure myself and others that I am very sorry for him and wish to ease his lot by all possible means - except by getting off his back.

Which FF Character Are You?
Things are looking really good for this game, I resubbed a month ago and have had a blast playing FFXIV, the content and face lift to the maps coming for version 2.0 looks awesome, it is a game I feel is more directed at the mature market, as I think the younger generation will get frustrated with a lot of the quests due to the need of party set ups and the lack of hand holding. Levelling is a lot faster than it was in release, Primal battles are fun to do, Hamlets, Caravan escorts, NM hunting are also good fun, always something to do on a daily basis. The new team that took over this project have done a superb job imo.
2.0 does look very nice, but so did the game half a year before its actual release.. I just hope this overhaul feels finished..
All hail the Barn Owl! oh.. and the RED SQUIRREL!!!
This is what a respected gaming journalist had to say about 2.0 upon seeing it in action:
I want to get excited by this but I will keep that excitment locked away until I see 2.0 in action myself.
Agree. But the zones look really a lot better in those screenshots! Wow!
I've been playing for about a week now and enjoy it as is. I can't wait for 2.0 thought it looks so awesome!
I'm really glad I came back and gave the game another chance. SE really got their shyte together
Is there still a limit on quests and level/exp gain? Not that I'm one of those race to max kind of people, I enjoy the ride rather than the destination.
Being capped on quests daily is why I never bought the game, I cannot grind with no reward.
Game looks absolutely beautiful. If they've fixed the combat/leveling/questing I'll give this a shot. I love FF games!
Not at all.
They removed the "surplus/fatigue" system a while back. I think it was one of the first things Yoshi did. More recently they added a rested xp bar, which accrues over time if your character is logged out in an Inn room.
They've increased the number of leves you can take over a given stretch of time up to 99. So, you can do them all day if you want, up 'til 99 of them. Then it resets every so often (I forget what the interval is at the moment, 'cause I never do them enough for it to matter to me lol).
They've added a ton more storyline quests, side quests, class quests, the newer Job quests, which will also keep you quite busy.
There's a lot to do in the game now. You'll be surprised if you haven't played it since Tanaka's days with it.
is it a grouping game yet? when i played it when it first came out noone grouped because it really wasnt Necessary
Watch your thoughts; they become words.
Watch your words; they become actions.
Watch your actions; they become habits.
Watch your habits; they become character.
Watch your character; it becomes your destiny.

Yeah, looks were never this game's problem.
I agree.
FF games have always been gorgeous. Even the earlier ones looked good for their time. The biggest problems with this game were the mechanics / design of the actual gameplay. I know they've done a lot of stuff which seems to be bringing the game more inline with what FFXI used to be, but I have to wonder how they expect to keep this game relevant.
They've been fixing this game for so long, I have no idea how much money they've sunk into this vs. how much they have obtained by the few people still subbed. If they have managed to fix the game enough to where it still feels fresh / new, then it may be worth it, but I have yet to see any game successfully accomplish such a massive overhaul post-launch.
Have you ever seen anyone even try?
[mod edit].
You can look at my post history and see that i've chimed in on other games..... In my humble opinion, this site rarily has info on FFXIV even after major patches.... it's hit or miss. So I thought I'd share for people on the fence about 2.0. I think it will be great... and a lot of people seem to feel the same way. Just because I like a game makes me a paid poster... man I wish I would bet paid for like FFXIV... that would be pretty nice income on the side.
Yes, yes I have. Usually the games that launch as poorly as FFXIV did are just given up on, though. The costs to fix it are high enough that it's usually more practical to just make a new game. That's not to say that, for whatever reason, SE hasn't been spending the money & time to try and salvage this game. It's looking to have come a long way from where it was, but there's no shortage of problems they needed to address to get this game to where it needs to be.
As big of a critic of XIV as i am, color me impressed.
The game alawys looked good though. The bottom line will be game play as usual and I'm interested in seeing if they managed to actually make it fun to play. Couldn't be any worse i suppose.
There is a lot of solo content (mainly leves, though they're far more fun done in a group and turning the challenge rating up, IMO), and there are side-quests that can be solo'd.
However, there's a lot of content that really requires a group - unless someone decides to out-level it all and then breeze through it on a higher level, which is just boring to me personally.
The Job quests (again, assuming you do them 'at level' and don't out-level them first), can be very tough and def. require asssistance. I had my ass handed to me on a couple of them when I tried myself the first time.
And of course, you have the dungeon instances and Primals to deal with, which always require a group.
Okay, any examples though? I can't think of any games that have such a wide gap between what it was like and what it needs to become. I don't think you can compare it to anything anyone has ever done. What SE is doing is unique, because their circumstances are vastly different too. The IP is well-known, the required human assets already exist within the company and investor participation is not as crucial to the development. Not many- if any- other companies can say the same.
They are bringing back some of the oldschool classes? Monk? WHM? Dragoon... etc? Man, 2.0 is catching my eye for FF series again. Maybe I'll give them a second chance, everybody deserves a second chance! And the depth of the graphics from the screenshots is bringing back memories from the first month I played it. It was truely a visual orgasm. I'm keeping this on my radar for sure.
