I've owned VG since launch, and played for about a month through the bugs until I finally put it down.
Came back a week ago to try it again, and WOW. I could go on and on. I just get that FEELING when I'm playing it. You know, that feeling you got when you first started Everquest or AC, AC2, SWG (Pre-CU)... GREAT community, fun dungeons, lots to explore, unique classes, and that overwhelming sense of "This is a huge frickin' world... where do I go from here?"
So I finished the Island, and ported to Qa Riverbank... Was that a good choice, or are there better (and more populated) starting points? Anything I shouldn't miss in the 10-20 range? Guess I'm just geeking out a bit and wondering what the best next steps are.
Thanks!
Chris

The thing about Vanguard. is that with so many paths to level and such a vast world. You ARE going to miss areas entirely when they are level appropriate or go back to through them when they are trivial. You could level up a dozen characters and have not one follow the exact same leveling path...
As far as "can't miss" things. There are a few nice quests early on like hunters league ones but really you shouldn't concern yourself with them, comparable items can be found elsewhere in most cases. So enjoy the ride, quest where you find interesting don't be hung up on the gotta do this or that and just have fun and enjoy being able to deviate from the rails like so many current MMOs have confined you to..
I'm fairly new to Vanguard (adv 28) but can at least speak somewhat to your experience at that level. What I'd recommend is to not be too shy. Vanguard has one of the best communities I've found in an MMO in quite some time. If you're looking for group-mates or ideas, ask in the region channel, and also do post yourself as "LFG" in the group finder. I don't know if everyone uses it, but I do, and often when I create a group I get a handful of tells even at this low level looking to join in. You'll also often get high-level players willing to mentor down to help alleviate their boredom.
I suppose I'd say the "key" quest lines are the "URT" ones from 15-22 and the Hunter's League quests (as mentioned in the post before this one) which run from about 18-25. You can start the URT line in Veskal's Exchange (VE is more or less the commercial "hub" of Thestra, and the game, for the most part, since you can find every trainer, vendor and informant there in close proximity without having to get lost repeatedly in someplace like Khal). Neither quest line is mandatory though they have decent gear rewards for their level; you can be just as well served just wandering around. You will run into something to do just about anywhere you go.
For just raw advice, were I you I'd go to Thestra at level 13-15 or so, and try to get into a group running Khegor's End. That was a great dungeon, especially considering it's a low-level one.
Also, use http://www.thetelonproject.com/ for ideas too. Great site (it's not mine, I just use it frequently).
It's been a few months since I played. But every time I come back I usually use the same formula after the Island.
Seems as if most everyone starts off questing at Veskal's Exchange ( Thestra ) and also makes it their home all the way to max level. It always seems to be the most populated area. It has everything you need including an auction house. It sounds like you had already out leveled the quest but like I say most make it their home.
Around level 16 I think, I usually quest around Skrilien Point ( Qalia ) or Three Rivers ( Thestra ). Skrilien Point seems to be more populated. It's also where you will Begin the Hunters league quest. This is a very popular quest line that everyone does, but does require a group. Either watch the local chat or hang near the quest giver Neneler Jafila and you will soon have a group of two or three. He can be located right next to the Rift way when you enter this zone. Be warned that he will not offer you the quest unless you are at least level 16 or 17 I forget. This quest line last well into your 20's. If you have some time and luck on your side you could do the entire quest line with the same group, if not you would have to use the same formula each time you start a new part. By the way make friends and add them to friends list along the way. You will need them to play Vanguard

Another thing I always like to do at early levels is Khegors End around level 16. It's a Dungeon near Three Rivers or better yet near Themnwar's Shield, it's a little closer and you could find all the quest here for the dungeon. Use the social panel and do a search of players between levels 16 to 20 and ask them if they would like to go. Be careful not to bring anyone lower than 16 because as you go deeper, things get harder. In fact I never completed this dungeon, It just gets soo hard at the very end. Remember, use the Social panel and do a search for players ask nice, and add friends to your list. You need them to play Vanguard
Khegors End can be found here :

Thanks everyone for your insight. I think I have a game plan now!
My other question is, my wife and I generally love playing together, played WOW for a couple of years until we got bored of the grind... It's great to always have a group. She would play healer and I'd DPS, it was an awesome time.
Could we do well together for the most part for a lot of the content or would we need to frequently LFG? And are there any duos that stand out to you as good combos?
Hopefully one of the vets can respond to that. From what I've seen, if she starts out as a Disciple, what you choose doesn't really matter. Disciple is an incredibly versatile and survivable healer class and combos with everything.
I'm not sure I'd say Khegor's End was incredibly hard lower down, it's just indicative of Vanguard as a whole - you can't faceroll anything. There's not really an opportunity to take a 15-minute afk break halfway down. I'm a paladin and I duo'd it with a bard buddy all the way down the very bottom - the only part we couldn't complete was the "all caps" boss at the very end, and we were only level 17 and 18. Since there were only 2 of us and no true healer, it required whoever was pulling to be very careful about placement and watching out for patrols to not get overwhelmed. Good times.
Perfict game if your playing as a Duo !!
I was a Shaman with a Bear pet, and my friend was a Monk. It worked out great, we were able do do most any quest except dungeons that required a full group. My only regret is that I picked a Bear, I should have played with a Wolf for a pet. The Bear could hold agro if I soloed, but when a I played with my friend I could not hold agro, If I used a Wolf, at least it would do more damage.
If you plan on getting groups for dungeons, I would recommend one of you to play a Tank class. Healers, DPS, and Casters are a dime a dozen. I know I search for classes using the Social Panel, and often their is only two, three or four on at any given time. So It would be best if one was a Healer class and one is a Tank, then getting others would take like two minutes to get a full group as long as you use the Social Panel to search for others....But like I say finding healers is not too hard anyway.
As with any mmo, I would not play two casters, but thats only my opinion. Other than that all classes are good
One cool thing when playing as a Duo........It seems as if many see both playing together, and like to join the party....We made a lot of friends that way.....Again add friends to your friends list, you will need them in Vanguard.
