Free trial ?

I am wanting to give FFXI a shot , but im not willing to dish out the cash for a new game purchase especially when im not sure ill enjoy it. Is there any other way than getting a download code from someone to try this game out ? If not does anyone have a download code they are not using ? Im pretty curious about this title.
Thanks ahead of time.

You can actually just get the original copy for around 20 bucks or maybe less. The one that has the white box with the first expansion on it.

I tried looking for a trial too, but I don't think they have one. Besides, you'd prolly have to do a massive d/l anyways. I suggest just getting it at a cheap price. Try Fry's (if you have nay where you live), or maybe even Best Buy. 20 bucks (or less) isn't too bad just to try something out.

Good luck. Oh if you have a gamepad, I highly recommend you use it with it. MUCH easier to play with it!

Which gamepad seem's to be the favorite among the comunity for this game ? And is it that much more complicated to play wih the standard " WSAD + Mouse " controls ?

I have to admit the controls suck on teh PC unless you use a gamepad. It was pretty much made for the PS2. I'm pretty sure you can't use WASD to move either(I could be wrong, I don't remember), because you hold down the left mouse button to run in the direction you're facing and hold down the right mouse button to rotate camera, or you can rotate with the arrow keys as well (while you're walking, for example).

I use the Saitek P2500 RUmble gamepad. I got it for 30 bucks at Fry's, but I just saw it at Best Buy for around 22-25 dollars. And yes there is a rumble feature on the gamepad that interacts with the game (critical hits make it rumble, for example). Trust me: get a gamepad. And even if you don't have one now, you'll have one for any other games you might play and it's a good gamepad; so it wouldn't be like you're losing out on money buy purchasing one anyways.

And if you do get it: always have the gate guard cast Signet on you, so you can get crystal drops of the monsters and then sell them at Auction house-good way to make money. And if you start at your race's racial city you get a bonus ring item to start with.

Thanks alot for the info, im bored at the moment looking for a good MMO while i wait on things like Huxley and SUN, i play a little L2 on a free server and thats all fine in short spurts. I got bored to tears with WOW after running Molten Core 123901293812 times. So now i pretty much just play BF2 lol. Would you think that someone who really enjoyed, UO, Eq + Kunark, Ao and L2 would enjoy a game like FFxi ? i have to admit some things do have a very appealing factor in that title to me. But im just hesitant i suppose since WOW was such a major let down for me.

Iv recently tried this game out and it is very good, i think from the games you have listed you would enjoy it as i have also played many of them :), you may aswell give it a try, i picked it up with the 2 expansions for £12.99 i think thats about $23.86 USD. Oh and yes you can use WASD you have to goto config ---> misc2 or misc cant remember exactly ---> then change the key layout to compact.

Have fun hope to see you in game

    Kujata server FTW

some kind of trial would be nice... Just to see how the game works [Movements & stuff...].
There is benchmark but there isn't actual gameplay. Just pre-modified camera "tour"... ::::03::

    Confirmed

You dont need a trial just go buy it, play it, and love it. Last summer i borrowed my friends PS2 with a modem and HDD and his FFXI and i played it at my dads house for 3 months straight.(Had to bike 8 milles to get there from my house.) I only quit because my dad stop paying for it, it's by far the best pay to play mmorpg i've played so far. Allthough the only other p2p mmorpg i've play is L2 and it was on a free server.

If you've got the fundage i'd say go ahead and buy it, you wont be sorry.
