Can you use your fists to defend yourself?

in DayZ

Does anyone know if you can fight with fists or knives. I ran out of bullets with a zombie chasing me and could not figure out how to fight him. I got knocked out when I tried to open my bag in an attempt to unequip the gun. Then I was slowly consumed by the zombie.

    From what i understand you cannot.  Knives are for skinning animals.  Axes are for chopping wood.

    how you enjoying the game so far?

    I angered the clerk in a clothing shop today. She asked me what size I was and I said actual, because I am not to scale. I like vending machines 'cause snacks are better when they fall. If I buy a candy bar at a store, oftentimes, I will drop it... so that it achieves its maximum flavor potential. --Mitch Hedberg

    I found out pretty swiftly that its useless to shoot the zombies unless you somehow aggro them, you want to avoid them at all costs. Your ammo is really for self defense or helping other people/taking them out.

    A bullett in a shambling zombie is a waste, a bullet to save a life of a friend is worth it, and a bullett to take the life and equipment from a bandit is also worth it.

    I think the game could benefit from being able to use a melee weapon, for killing the odd zombie it'd be much more favourable than wasting a bullett, but then you would never be worrying about whether your gunshot will be heard and more zombies will attack so its probably a good thing there is no melee right now as it adds to the suspense.

     It is a blast. I'm starting to get the close range head shot thing down. It's hard to hit the zombies from to far because they randomly zig-zag.

     

    So far I run the other direction when I see another player, sorta like I probably would if a real zombie apocolypse were to happen. This game kinda reminds me of a more badass minecraft, no real point other than survival and exploration, but DayZ clearly takes it to a whole new level. I love these kinds of games and it makes me happy games like minecraft and ARMA II thru DayZ are successful, maybe these will lead to more games were the story is in the players hands, not read to them like a bed time story.

     

    (I'm also learning which buildings I can enter, already died trying to sneak into a doorless building)

    sounds good I'm considering buying although seems they are working on the mod for arma3 so might just wait on that:) ill keep on lookout for another one of those $15 amazon deals heh

    Can you use your fists? No, but you sure as hell can GET fisted.
