CCP wants EVE to become a complete sci-fi simulation in the future. They have a vision far beyond internet spaceships, though because of the whole fiasco a while back, they are now aware that the current core must be supported before they can expand.
They have plans to revisit WiS, but it's going to take some time before you hear more of it.
But after playing it for years and years. Being a miner, pvper, soloer, and a member of power blocks, the thing I think of when hearing Eve is it is a collection of 1/2 done features. So many cool ideas alot not finished. WiS has joined the ranks of Incursions, missions, sov, etc. etc. etc.
But the positive side they are looking at all these half baked features now. Maybe one day, they will look at WiS and actually do something with it.
I have not logged in to see the new expansion so I am a bit behind the times. (to much X3AP, if you want walking in ships etc X-R is looking hopefull)
I agree with those of you that think a fully realized WiS addition would have been a great addition to EVE.
I'm quite disappointed that they gave us captains quarters and left it at that. What a waste. What a useless aspect to have in the game without the rest of it. WHen they (ccp) decided to backtrack, they should have took it all out instead of leaving it there as a teaser and reminder of the direction EVE could have gone.
My main issue is that they said they were going to stick to development of the ;core; gameplay, yet, NOTHING has really changed or been added. They just keep doing graphical tweaks and changing the political systems in the game and honestly who gives a frakk??? almost 2 years of development since the debacle, and now all we get are higher quality ship skins and a reformed war dec. system? really?> That's the extent of CCP making EVE more enjoyable... pathetic.
I will say that missile effects have been a long time deserved, so bravo to them for finally releasing that. But the rest of Inferno is such a snore. Really, i'm just bored to death of EVE. I'm even in a nullsec alliance that constantly is doing something, but that "something" gets stale FAST and requires ALLLLL day commitment to enjoy it.
I hope WoD isn't so snobby.
um, Incarna was released almost exactly a year ago.
CCP have focused on the "Core gameplay". Lag is incredibly improved, to the point of almost being a non-issue now. There have been hundreds of minor tweaks and improvements which have improved the everyday experience of virtually every EVE player. The amount of refinement and polishing effort that has been put in since Incarna launched is incredible - especially in a 9 year old game.
That said I definitely agree that it's now time for CCP to start looking for ways to expand gameplay, as well as continuing to improve it. It has been 3 years since the Apocrypha expansion, which is the last time that CCP introduced anything new to do in EVE. (in a spaceship, anyway. Fuck PI)
I'm not saying soon. I'm saying we're working on a prototype and that it is down to the EVE Project Management group, the executives and investors as to what actually happens to make this a reality. To emphasis what that means, if we were green-lit to continue tomorrow and we could staff it as planned without impacting FiS development I doubt players would be running through these structures on TQ for over 12 months. I'd sincerely like to get any in-development work into the hands of the players early though and that must be part of any pre-production and production plans we make. It's definitely not soon however much I wish it could be.
The basic point in terms of timescale is that It's not an expansion, it's making another game to sit inside the EVE universe. I think that's a fact that has not been addressed in the past and why WiS has always been a unfulfilled wish on the part of CCP. It's not on the scale of DUST514 or World of Darkness but it is more significant in terms of effort required on technology and gameplay development than any previous EVE expansion.
What we've have done is demonstrate you can have fun avatar gameplay that would work inside the EVE universe and provided a plan and some estimates on the technology and resources required to take the prototype forward.
I like though that people are typically positive about WiS despite the long time we've been banging that particular drum.
Besides PI, Sovereignty revamp, Incursions, Captain Quarters are "nothing new"?
They have the framework laid to do out of ship exploration, they said that they just need approval from higher ups to go ahead with actual development at this point.
thier engine is probably the best currently in the world far above any Unreal or Crytec tech ( tho most have no clue about the difference between engines)
The World of Darkness/Incarna engine is far from "the best in the world" and is probably much closer to "the worst in the world". The engines only attribute is that it looks kind of pretty on high end computers, that is it, that is all it can do. The engine is horribly optimised and uses an incredible amount of resources to place a single player controlled character in a room with very few interactive features. This is not even talking about PhysX.

Selective memory is funny thing.
