I'm thinking of trying EQ2, have a couple of questions:
1) Will I find anyone to level with?
2) If I pay for the top-end subscription, will I get all the content released to date? Or, will I still have to pay for expansions?
3) What's a good, relatively simple class for a noob?
Thanks!

Wait until they add the SOEmote feature : )
1. Rarely, but if you ask players maybe you will get someone who wants to join you starting off, otherwise it's a bunch of players who are more solo play because of how easy EQ2 has become.
2. I would not pay to play EQ2. Play the free and go from there. Even at free to play I believe EQ2 is lacking. The game has gotten so easy it is almost like playing with GOD mode on.
3. Try them all, every class is based on almost the same damage types and spell/combat lines. What differentiates a class is the AA lines you put into, even then they are pretty much the same. If you had played EQ2 the first 2 years of release you would of had one of the best game experiences and broad range of class differences, now it is very hard to find much difference in playing each class.
I would not waste time trying it simply because the sheer amount of solo players and gold/item farmers. Besides the easy mode gameplay, if you like that kind of thing then go ahead try it, but don't pay for it.
Thanks! I...don't like healing. I prefer straight DPS. Any ideas??
1) the most populated servers for low level players are Freeport and Antonia Bayle
- you will see other low level players but most leveling is done solo unless you do dungeons
2) a sub removes gear / class / restrictions and you can reach the level cap of 90
but you will be missing 2 expansions, Age of Discovery (had no content), Destiny of Velious (has endgame gear)

Beastlord is new scout class added to the game, but you need to own Age of Discovery to play one

Do Beastlords or Conjurors need to kite? I hate kiting LOL...
If you are outgoing, youll find people to level with on Freeport.
Beastlords solo well, and don t really kite. You re up there with your pet fighting. There are enough people to level with, I think some people don t look for it hard enough to find it. If you buy AOD you can get a merc to tank/heal/dps/support with you and your pet. It really is a good game, and I wouldn t say it s complete easy mose as some are saying. Is it easier then release, yes, easier then alot of MMOs , no. My wife and I play a zerk, and defiler. With our mercs, we can do any dungeon meant for a group. Only thing we can t do is raid, which we re not raiders anyways.
Ive never bothered with kiting in EQ2 and ive tried most the classes to 90
either of those 2 classes will be fun for you

"I would not waste time trying it simply because the sheer amount of solo players and gold/item farmers. "
Pretty much that.
There's alot of bots and tomfoolery at least on Freeport.
Grouping via dungeon finder is extremely hit or miss, overall it's a bad experience.
It's a good, massive game - but there's not alot of people around, it's ugly as hell 90% of the time and it's pretty much on minimal life support. I wouldn't dedicate alot getting into it only to have the servers come down in a year half.
I've played off and on since 2007, and do still enjoy it, but I know not to spend alot or put alot of effort forth now as I normally would.
Can't believe you havent played it before now. It's just like wow or pretty much every other decent game but you should have played it back when it was really good and before they dumbed it down to the point a stupid second grader could pretty much max out. I'm so sick of game companies massacaring thier own creations to pacify the whiners and only thinking of the money they make doing so.
EQ2 is far from life support. They still release tons of content, the quality of it though has sadly dipped in the last few years. But now that Smokejumper is less involved it could potentially go up in quality again, and most of the issues with the quality only affect the top 5% of players anyway. You could make a strong case for EQ2 as the best themepark game.
Is there anyone to group/raid with at max level?
plenty of guilds doing raid progression on all servers
http://eq2.guildprogress.com/
over a dozen active raid guilds on Freeport server alone
- Freeport is EQ2s newest server, less than 2 years old

OK, thanks for all the help guys!
That is a preposterous statement. EQ2 is one of the best-supported MMOs out there, with new content coming regularly, yearly expansions, and plenty of people playing. It has things that can be legitimately complained about, but this so so far removed from reality that I'm thunderstruck by its monumental ignorance.

The last two expansions were barely worthy of "patch" status.
Most servers are severely underpopulated.
They're barely cranking out "new" content to add to the item mall even.
So yes, the game is 90% dead and $0E killed it.
I agree Age of Discovery was a weak excuse for an expansion
I agree the item mall is too often stocked with weekly cosmetic items
I agree the content patches have been slow
but DOV combined with GU63 gave ample content for soloer, grouper, raider at level 90
http://eq2.wikia.com/wiki/Update:63
3 servers have healthy populations: Antonia Bayle, Freeport, Crushbone
the other servers, its more about endgame and playing at level 90
5 months ago, SOE had the opportunity to merge servers but did not with 2 exceptions
the 2 former "LiveGamer" servers were merged with existing servers because SOE dropped support for LiveGamer
anyone calling the game 90% dead is no longer playing the game and has no interest in EQ2

You haven't the vaguest idea what you are talking about, do you?

It's super awesome fun. (Well at least for me it is!!)
Life is Short, Read a Book.
I last played like 2 months ago.. there were tons of people everywhere in lvl 20-30 zones.
Remember Old School Ultima Online
Here is a statement on how 'dead' eq2 is:
There are 10 NA servers. At Midnight eastern, only one of them is low pop. Doing /who alls I came up with 452 people on that server, and that wont include anon people. So low pop eq2 servers hold bare minimum 500, possibly more.
But all 10 servers have more than 450 people on them.
Rift has 16 NA servers. 8 of those servers never had more than 450 people on them in the last 7 days. Only 6 of them currently have more than 400 (all 6 of those are medium, no high pop). Some (not all) of the low pop servers are almost completely dead, the PvP server i checked had a grand total of 39 people on it.
In other words, its quite possible right now there are more people playing the NA servers on EQ2 as there are on Rift. Whichever way, the two games arent that far apart.
OK, I finally got around to downloading EQ2 and tried to make my conjuror and...it's a pay-only class. Exactly how restricted is the free game??
