whats going to be funny is when blizzard decides to either A raise the level cap or B release tiered gear just like wow and all those suckers that spent a lot of money on gear will have absolutely nothing to show for it and have to either farm the new stuff or buy it once again.
Problem is doubt that will be happening until an xpac is released. So yeah eventually it will be a wash but that may be some time out.
1. For god's sake mmo gamers, enough with the analogies. They're unnecessary and your comparisons are terrible, dissimilar, and illogical.
2. To posters feeling the need to state how f2p really isn't f2p: Players understand the concept. You aren't privy to some secret the rest are missing. You're embarrassing yourself.
3. Yes, Cpt. Obvious, we're not industry experts. Now run along and let the big people use the forums for their purpose.
That's a good question however there are 2 problems with that.
1. As one poster said there are better drops every day. I'm sure there will be "drops" that you farm and "drops" that are being seeded in the game. There will be no best I don't think.
2. Different builds. I assume when the person is comfortable enough they will farm gold, and other items to flesh out their build even more. For example right now for me I'm working on a magic find and gold build, but to be honest that does not work at all for me in inferno. To that end I'm also working on a resistance, armor build...I play a WD btw. I'm sure there are stats for both of those in one piece of armor but honestly i have like 30,000 gold to my name.
What I think I will do is farm Hell for a couple runs from beginning to end in magic/gold find and then with that work on buying my Inferno gear...with no absolutely no buying of stuff from the AH. I'll struggle and prod until I get to where I want to go...eventually. Either that or Torch LIght 2 will come out and then I'll put this on the back burner for a different time.
So Blizzard is going to constantly add better items ad infinitum? How can that work in the long term? In a couple years the gear will be so amazing that even inferno will be a walk in the park.

Can't come up with a single non-smartass answer, so pass.
Self-pity imprisons us in the walls of our own self-absorption. The whole world shrinks down to the size of our problem, and the more we dwell on it, the smaller we are and the larger the problem seems to grow.
Logged in the day they launched the RMAH, saw the prices. Laughed hard. Haven't touched D3 since.
Drops are so terrible that I think I'd have a better chance of getting hit by lightning than actually finding a useful drop. You're forced to use the AH (gold or RM). Terrible design and gamebreaking to say the least.

Very disheartened by what they did to this game.
I don't know. I mean the only time the itemization really comes into play is in inferno. Considering that is the last phase of the game before you "finish" it why not have it take a while grinding for gear? Once you complete that then it is game over anyways besides trying for achievements or getting inferno on farm status. Don't get me wrong. It is about as retarded as you can get to get a lvl 60 socket ring/amulet or have an item drop specific for a class that has the most worthless attributes it can have on the item drop. The thing that gets me is how much the BS truly sucks unfathomable levels of ass.

Just play the game till you get what you want. Doesn't more playtime equate to more bang for your buck? I do not understand all this misguided rage at the AH. Just play it as you played the others, as a single player game. I havent been following the game but I knew there would be an AH before the game cameout. Obviously it wasn't that much of an issue if you still bought the game knowing there would be an AH.
Now what do you do? There's nothing left to look forward to. Do you continue doing inferno runs to boost your self esteem? Do you throw away a $60 game because you just bought "victory"?
We now live in Bizarro World.
No such thing as best gear in Diablo.
You always have a chance to find something better, this is why i would never take part in this cash AH.
YOu spend hundreds of dollars on upgrades for what?
Thankfully, I'm not a complete moron and know better than to get caught up in this entire mess.

Now see this is what I don't get. No way in hell you'll see me buying anything on the ramah either. But I'm certainly not going to refer to those that do as being a moron. So what if they value their time or entertainment differently than I do?Really now...

You farm and sell your own stuff for profit?
Edit: Better idea...you quit your job, move to Belise, get a laptop/wfi and make a living selling stuff on AH while playing on a beach sipping a margarita.
And as a side job you can work in a sweat shop sneaker factory.
I like the laptop, beach, margarita picture better.

I should edit my post. I dont mean to call others Morons. I understand certain people have no issue tossing money at a game to cut their playtime short. these are the same people that waste money on cheat guides for sp games.
I know it might be harsh to say "im not a complete moron" so i wouldnt touch the cash AH. But in a game like Diablo where gear never stops getting better it makes no sense at all (TO ME) to spend that much on upgrades.
Imagine spending a thousand dollars on gear then in the next ten minutes you replace the weapon that u spend 250 dollars on... In my opinon I personally would feel like a MORON for wasting cash.
Anyway, buying the best gear in the game makes no sense
It does ... it helps you farm faster and more efficiently. If you dps is too low, and if your resistance/hp too low, you cannot surrive the good farming spots.
Think of the equip as a business investment to improve your efficiency in farming, hence in making more money.

I don't understand how this works. I asked about it above but never got an answer. Are you saying Blizzard is going to be continually adding better items to D3 forever? Have they thought about the long term implications of such a strategy to the game as a whole?

To answer the original post, I'd get high off drinking the tears of all the insecure losers who are jealous of my fat wallet because they are dumb enough to think someone having better gear than them is somehow "beating" them at Diablo 3.

blizzard dont need to add anything. I guess u didnt played diablo b4?
stats are random on items. it nearly impossible to see 2 items with same stats
so u always had a chance to find items with better stats on them

Random stats are random.
YOu can spend 250 bucks on a Sword with 1600 damage, 200 strength, 20% attack speed, 900 life on hit and 100 vitality and think is the best item ever! Then a few days later see an item with the same skin but with 1680 damage, 250 str, 1100 health on hit, 200 vit, chance to stun and 120 vit, 500 health on kill.
Seriously the game is all about item hunting if there were a "best item" people would pay for it and stop playing.
I played Diablo 3 and am done now. I'm not really into the Barbie dressup game that a lot of other people seem to like to play. For me it is about the gameplay and story and mix in a whole schwack of pvp.

I just put some level 60 rare boots up this morning for £3, if they sell I will eat my hat.
There were already listings up on EU AH this morning at 7am with items attempting to be sold for £200+ and they weren't even any good, if anyone has ended up buying these then they need there head looked at.
