How do you think this will affect D3?
A lot of people seem to be looking forward to it, thinking the change in item drops will make the game more rewarding and give more of an incentive to play and have fun. These people feel they don't want to spend a lot of time farming gold to buy in the AH, when the point of this kind of game is to have the chance to get good loot once in a while.
Other people feel the nerfs are unwarranted, or will just make the game play less satisfying (because somehow less challenging). These people seem to feel that Diablo has always been about grind for gold and gear. They feel that people who want the patch 1.03 changes are whiners who want instant gratification and are making D3 less fun/challenging.
That's my take on reading the forums there. Honestly, however, the official D3 forums are out of control. I've never seen any forum with that much turnover of posts and just overall dross you have to filter through to get to thoughtful, interesting, or useful posts.
Thought I would bring it here and see what kind of conversation develops. If you vote in the poll, I would be interested in reading the reasons for your views on this upcoming patch.

It's great they are making the drop rates better, but the serious problem now with patch 1.0.3 is that they are nerfing the crap out of IAS badly, lots of people complaining in the forums.
Well as it stands now the game is completely broken after nightmare. Every class gets constantly 1-2 shotted and if you don't have enough money to get the best gear from the gold AH (hate saying that) then you are screwed. This game is so poorly designed from a players perspective. You aslo can't even get a fair shake at hardcore because the servers are way too laggy. They centered the game mechanics and design around the RMAH which is an ultimate fail.

Why use the RMAH and spend money when its pointless to play the game. If they make items, droprates and the game in general boring to support the RMAH it should fail. But some are paying for expensive items. So I dont now..
But I believe it would be better from a business POV if milions bought and sold $3-$10 items compared to thousands buying for $100-$250... So I dont think droprates this bad is good for anyone. Not even Blizzard...
stop the presses! people are complaining about a nerf. never mind that it was sorely needed, it was a nerf!
at least the complaining is likely in other forums. complaing is unheard of on this forum!
Game was a fail, nerfing inferno difficulty wont change the fact that the entire game is based around an auction house.

What they should do is make it so elites/champion effects are actually dodgeable instead of relying on a player praying to the random dice gods that I don't get a terrible combo.
I dont' mind having to gear up, it just sucks when you need rediculous amounts of gear to do something and skill has so little factor in doing anything, particularly for melee classes where there is nearly nothing you can do about it. Pretty hard to dodge stuff at melee range and even the charge attacks you are 'suppose' to dodge you can get smacked by just due to the lat in the game being iffy at times.
if you or anyone else is getting constantly 1-2 shotted past nitemare, then, yes, you're better off playing something else that doesnt require any skill.
stop with the unwarrented drama
They are not increasing drop rates. They are fixing what is an already broken progression system on Inferno.
AT the moment the best items can never drop on Inferno Act 1 and 2. What they are doing is giving you a very small chance that the best items can drop on all Inferno acts including act 1 and 2. You can also get item level 61 and 62 on Act 3 and Act 4 Hell.
This makes is so that you can actually get the items needed to progress in Inferno. In the current state if you are a melee class you CANNOT progress past act 2 without obtaining items which are found in later acts. So you have to use the AH. This is a broken system. If you are a ranged class you don't need to use the AH. You can skip through all the elites and kill all other mobs by kiting. When you beat inferno you end up farming chests/vases in Act 3 and 4 so that you can get the items you need.
Right now you cannot farm Inferno ACt 1 and 2 for items because you only get crap items. So you have to farm for gold. Last time I checked the Diablo series were NEVER about farming for GOLD. It is about farming for cool items.
@the guy who gets one shotted past nightmare, that's not true. You can faceroll hell and even act 1 inferno.

Getting 1-2 shotted has nothing to do with skill. It has to do with gear. So yea, stop the drama.
Im sure that someone that bought some item for $250 that was expensive because it had IAS will be very happy if its almost worth nothing after the nerf. Or someone that bough a unique item for $250 after the new improved uniques are live and the old inferior ones are worth nothing.
But I guess they will all be forced to go to the RMAH and spend more money to get new gear... Or perhaps quit.
I wouldn't go as far as to say it's "completely broken after nightmare", I'd have to say that it gets pretty stupid in act 2 inferno though :P They need to tone down the difficulty in later inferno acts, and up the drop rates on useful yellows just a bit. It would be nice to be able to actually find something that's an upgrade without using the auction house.
You don't get 1-2 shotted on nightmare, hell. So yeah, cut the drama.
Also you're saying MMOs don't require any skill at all right cause everything in MMOs can be overcome with gear.
The amout of ignorance about the RMAH is also quite amusing. Can't wait to read another 10-15 pages worth of complete ignorance about how people buy $250 items.

Oh please you haven't a clue. The game is so unbalanced it is just pure fail. Oh I'm sorry, should I just go buy items and make it a pay to win scenario like most people are doing ? Was able to play Hell mode back in the days in D2 with no complaints but the way they have it now it is pure fail thanks to designing a game around an auction house.

Diablo 3 is easy peasy right up until Act 2 Inferno. If you are having trouble before then, you need to seriously consider the tactics you are using. I was able to get all the way to Belial at end of Act 2 Inferno without ever using either auction house and with very little farming. Not sure I can get past Inferno Belial at the moment, but I haven't really tried much to be honest. I think I'm now tired of the game and have probably moved on for good now. But it was fun while it lasted...

i consider myself an average player. i rofl stomped my way thru hell and act 1 inferno with just gear that dpopped ingame. act 2 inferno has been alot more difficult for me and act 3 is a forget it atm. thats exactly what blizz is addressing in the upcoming patch.
if you are having trouble with hell difficulty, then you just suck...period..go play something else because no matter what blizz does, you will NOT get anywhere in inferno.
I ment in the Battlenet Diablo 3 forums, the people are going ape shit about this, because some people bought expensive IAS stuff in RMAH and AH.
Farming in a single player game? No thianks. I get the lure of the random loot thing and loved D1 but it is like they took the least fun part of the game and made it the focus.
Wa min God! Se æx on min heafod is!
D3 is already boring for me. It didnt have the feel of D2 for me, where it can take months to reach 99. D3 isnt fun for me cause i dont wanna farm elite packs. Elit packs should not be harder then bosses period.

I've read those forums. whats being said is the normal reaction to a nerf that happens in every game known to man. people that think it thru logically arent complaining...the knee jerk reactionaries are.
The reality of it was that "IAS" was OP. Everyone was loading up on it. Kudo to Blizz and their 1.03 for smoothing out and improving a game that's alrdy a great game
If I my fav character wasn't my Barb, I wouldn't like that patch at all.
IMO, they should do either one or the other - Either "smooth out" the difficulty of Inferno, OR "smooth out" the drop rate of high iLvl items. Not both.
I can see them WoW-ifying Inferno in terms of difficulty so all the WoWbears can farm the fuck out of it. I hope this doesn't happen, I hope they know what they're doing.
Instead of doing this, they should just sort out the melee classes. This patch, which will also nerf attack speed, will hurt Barbs and Monks even more. I'm just looking forward to the class balancing patch... Hopefully it's before the PvP one.

Always hating on instances in MMOs! Open worlds, open PvP, territory control and housing please. More persistence, more fun.
Agreed. People will learn to adapt. I have already switched some of my Demon Hunter's gear to crit since IAS won't be as good to stack. Having a bit will still be good though, but only a couple of items worth. The change is better for the overall health of the game because right now you are forced to stack IAS.
Did they fix the two WD passives that don't work?

My favorite is my barb, too. I've got him to Act 1 inferno and just realized that to get that barb ready for Act 2, it would be more efficient to roll a DH to farm for the barb. Got the DH up to level 57 very quickly and hoping patch 1.03 makes it feasible to farm my own stuff instead of relying on the AH. But I've been happy playing D2 the last couple of days, so I will pop back into D3 after the patch and see what's up.
I don't want to have to farm millions of gold to progress my barb. If so, I will walk and play another game. I want loot drops, not gold farming online. If Blizz doesn't fix *whatever is wrong* with this game [another thread], then I will just go play something else.
Its possible the nerf itself is reasonable. But the difference compared to other games is that people have payed real money for the items. IMO, it would have been better to give IAS a hard cap or a soft cap. Or both... That way you could not get overpowered IAS. But the items would maintain the value better. When there is a RMAH they should try to do things like this in ways that means they dont have to change items. I dont know what they are thinking... I mean if someone buys some expensive item they should be able to trust its not changed significantly and worth much less after the next patch. I believe a lot of people will get very angry. If no real money was involved it would not be a problem...
