Question on gameplay. (pvp)

Hey. I'm just lookin around at games and was checkin this one out. I looked about 6 pages back on these boards and didn't see any mention of PvP threads, but I'm sure you guys get them often.
So is there any PvP in FFXI or what? If so is there a lot of it? And can someone describe it? Thanks.

There's not much mention of it because there's not much PvP in FFXI. In the field, you cannot attack or cast detrimental spells on other players. (The player can even raise a flag that prevents you from doing *anything* to him, even curing him) The only PvP in FFXI is Ballista. It's a side game where teams from two nations face off in a match to try and throw the "petra" (which you literally have to dig up) in the "rook" (a goal that occasionally teleports around). To keep things interesting, you have to kill a member of the opposing team in order to be eligible to do this. High score wins. Matches are run every two game days on a rotating schedule of opposing nations, level caps and location (they're held in Jugner Forest, Pashhow Marshlands and Meriphataud Mountains). In order to participate in Ballista, you must have your license; this requires you to be Rank 3 and complete a small quest.
