Jorev, since your not paying attention to any of these posts I will clear it up. The game will look fine upon release. They have the graphics set low in order to work out the kinks elsewhere. According to the website there are something like 50 different nationalities and 20 ethnicities. There will be grass bushes terrain all that pretty stuff you are worried about.
Also, you should heed your own advice. If you are not part of the solution you are part of the problem.

Well, I already heard Kanoth mentioning about the stability of the game. RedBedlam (creators of RV) built an engine of their own to suit the features promised. And it seems its handling everything very well (he stated the coding for the game is very good and so we don't have to expect any server lag), although they are maybe having problems with Sea Travel, but to be honest, it really doesn't bother me.
Anyway, unfortunatley many people judge games, because they are suckers for major marketed games like WoW. Well I think WoW is a great game for the first few months, but only for PvE. PvP sucks in my opinion. Anyway, Roma Victor isn't game like WoW which uses graphics and marketing strategies to gain attention in the MMORPG communinty. It uses its fanbase, and community, who follow it up, to spread the word. Now if you friend doesn't have an interest in Roma, there is a case where the game is too hardcore for him.
People but one thing forsure that I have heard several times!! People who love Roma will love this game! But not only because its set in Rome, but because you really get to experience what it was like to have the life of a Roman Citizen or a barbarian tribesman, or a Senator, or a Gladiator. Mention anything in reply and I will tell you if its possible or not. As for magic...there is something, sort of. Its to do with religion, and not blasting fireballs or anything like that, but blessing weapons and the such. Kind of cursing the enemy I think there is aswell....oh well, anyone who loves a hardcore game or is fascinated by the Roman Era, will love this game. Whether, its Hardcore PvP, or Hardcore crafting, or Hardcore politics or just enjoying a great commnunity, RV gives that all and much more. Only thing RV doesn't posses is the carebare features...I hate calling them that, but its true. The game is not easy! You have to be wise with what you decide and the community is one of the main keys to success. If you are a PvE or a Solo playing lover, this game is definitley not for you!
By the way, the game also includes mega strategic battles of 2000+ NPCs& Players fighting on both sides!! You can even have Civil Wars going on, I doubt against the Emperor, he's too powerful, by the way, yes the Emperor is a player, who can be permanently killed. THere is perma death, but it is under many circumstances.
When ppl say its a "hardcore" game, i think of games that you can only be good at if you can play for 10 hours a day... and not for a casual mmo player at all. If you say there is no solo'ing and you cant do anything solo at all.. well then the game will fail. there is alot of ppl out there who cant play that much, and would like to do things.. be it crafting or hunting solo for a few hours. If its only desinged for ppl that can play for 10 hours at a time and you cant be on your own for 10 seconds, and need a grp of 100 ppl with you at all times.. it might be kinda lame. I can only play around 1-2 hours on weekdays and a little more on weekends. I play mmo's to have fun with other ppl not to take up a second job
also i do love roman history, so that what drew me too this game... thought it would be cool. but i like to solo a little in games.
millbro, what mikey said is sorta true. you will need to group but thats where the coolness of the design comes in. you can pay npcs to be your bodyguards or be slaves to go gather for you. so yeah soloing is a little tough if you completely solo but if you hire npcs to help you, you should be fine plus if you like crafting noone is going to kill you in the middle of it. the devs say if you attack someone in a well patrolled area the guards will slaughter the offender. i hope to see you in the game. plus its a one time purchase game, so if you like it but want to wait to play it when you have more time your not losing time on a monthly subscribtion.

Oh my god. Just by judging the screenshots alone I would say this game is still deep in Alpha. I try not to be too critical when it comes to the art in games ...but wow, that looks amateurish.
The OP is everything wrong with the gaming community and developers in general.
It's all about looks nowadays and content/gameplay always seem to come second. With the technology we have nowadays we should be making better games than ever before, all we seem to be doing is trying to make games look better than they did before. Shame really.

Yeah I have read plenty about it and the game seems interesting in theory. However, the graphics are hurting in their "lowest settings" ...it just isn't the same face issue either.

What a great example of the type of player you don't want. You sound wrapped too tight ...or a Roma developer who feels like their "honor" has been insulted.
So the community (oddly enough not the RV community) cries over graphics breaking a game and the developers dont respond with any updated models, textures, or graphics in general. Yet they easily reply to the RV message boards regarding content.
Could an intelligent person come to the conclusion that, to put it bluntly, they dont care about graphics at this point? Then logically they would also not care about opinions concerning said graphics?

We read the boards, we know people arent happy with the graphics as they are now. We've stated that these graphics are not what you'll see in the final release. The shiny screenshots will come out when KFR deems it necessary. But for now, we dont do requests.

Putting out Roma Victor's screenshots on low setting has to be the dumbest marketing move I've ever heard of. That's like going on a blind date with your hair all messed up and wearing your crappiest clothes. First impressions are what counts. So I think that the exscuse that they "intended" to put out low quality screenshots is weak.
Also saying that graphics dont count is like saying you date a girl for her personality. It's nice to say but it doesnt happen.
Now dont get me wrong. I'm not here to flame Roma Victor. I'm a huge fan of Roman History and was looking forward to this game big time. But like was said before..."The Graphics make my eyes bleed".
I'm pretty sure they are running them on highest settings. The graphics are simply crap you can't deny that. They look like something I could put together over a week. The excuse that they are running them on lowest settings is just stupid.
