We've got a brand new column by a gamer for gamers written by our own quite popular Pokket. In this first edition, Pokket tells us a tale of her younger self. She's got a lot of things to say in her inaugural column so keep reading!
5 p.m. Just woke up. Last day of freedom before summer break ends and classes start for the fall semester. Oh, joy. Not to mention the last day to actually catch up on my sleep and get back on a normal sleeping schedule. Have been struggling to do this for the past… well, two years. Mom declares that all those “damned video games” that I play contribute greatly to me not being on a “normal person’s sleep schedule.” I, however, disagree with her. Not to her face, of course.

She's got a lot of things to say in her inaugural column...
Hmmm, I didn't see much there. Ramblings, mostly. The fake diary cliche is, well, cliche. Sorry, guys. I think she sent you the wrong column. This one really was for junior high English class.
The vids have been good, Pokket. This is, IMO, not a good start to column writing.
I want a mmorpg where people have gone through misery, have gone through school stuff and actually have had sex even. -sagil
Poor little Pokket ...
I think your priorities are just fine.... she just worries about you is all...
This must be the new facebook.
Intro was mistakenly left off! Added, should make a little more sense now.
Try to be excellent to everyone you meet. You never know what someone else has seen or endured.

Moral of the story - Mom is always right (even when we don't want her to be) hehe. Unless she said "you can't play them anymore" then I would just disown her ;P and find a new Mom.
I was waiting for the punchline, but it never came.
I am pretty sure she was being tongue-in-cheek with her article. And that's why I went away to college Even though mine was spent playing too many hours of Civ 2.
Welcome back to Death Knights.
Ya, that helps it make sense. Kinda.

Please stick to the content of the article, guys.

If this was primarily about MMOs recently sucking or things that my interest us then sure - I could go for it, this column simply sucks and smacks of more personal issues than gaming or industry insight/issues... seriously change direction to something more worth while, no one cares what your mom said.
Meh, English major... You'd have to be hopped up on peyote to truly compromise that.
I find it strange how people are so caught up on the "time of day" even this day and age. We are in a modern age that runs 24/7 and people care what time you are sleeping or not? If you are a working student or functioning adult then what does it matter. I'm a professional adult that has worked nights and evenings for several years now. So I'm almost always up most of the night and sleep late into the morning or day. People somehow have this misconception that if you don't have a traditional sleep pattern then you're a slacker.
It's a column, she can write whatever she wants. You read a column because you like what the columnist writes. It's not about news or a specific game. She already covers the business and news stuff in her weekly Gameface videos.
I chose to quit WoW and video games until college was over because I couldn't balance them. Your column was, in a way, a time in my life. Some people can make a career or hobby out of gaming while others waste there life just playing. I thought your column was a true read.
This is like "a day in the life of a gamer', and as such I think a lot of us can see ourselves in that article at one point or another in our lives.
Lol
Somewhere out there in the forum lands there is a Wal Mart lifer nursing his wounds.
Amusing article. I especially like the be done by ten part. Never seems to happen.
1. For god's sake mmo gamers, enough with the analogies. They're unnecessary and your comparisons are terrible, dissimilar, and illogical.
2. To posters feeling the need to state how f2p really isn't f2p: Players understand the concept. You aren't privy to some secret the rest are missing. You're embarrassing yourself.
3. Yes, Cpt. Obvious, we're not industry experts. Now run along and let the big people use the forums for their purpose.
This diary needs an embedded video of "Friday" by the esteemed and accomplished artist Rebecca Black.
Ah, yes. I remember the hours it took me to prepare to log off on that old MMO I used to play...
Generally, it's not too smart to troll a comment thread once it's become obvious the CM is actively watching it and has warned you to stay on topic. Consider this your warning. Continued personal insults, trolling, and snide remarks directed at the author will earn you a temporary suspension from our forums.
Cut it out.
You can easily substitute wife in there as I think many of the married guys can attest. Of course, many of us never had the large number of portable gaming devices as Pokket.
I can relate to this article on various different levels. I think this is some of her best work yet! Keep it up pokket!!!!!! An excellent way to kind of reach out and relate to your target audience.

I can relate to Pocket's journal quite a bit. I consider myself fortunate that my only computer during college was a Brother word processor with a monochromatic screen. I have a very creative mind too, and the lure of living an imaginary life in a virtual world or universe is very strong.
I was creating virtual worlds in my head before such things existed in the digital realm.
Only question I have is how long did she keep her journal in school? Was it something she turned in for a grade? If so then I would be interested in hearing if the grade was good or not. I enjoyed the article. I have been a gamer for many years. This includes sports (volleyball is my favorite as just as much fun on the sand in middle of night), P&P RPGs, and video games.
Will be looking forward to seeing how her outlook changes as school year goes on.
