Had a GM hanging out with us in general chat the other night who was answering a lot of questions about the 1.9 patch and the upcoming Xpac.
One of the areas discussed was housing and he informed us that while Trion's take on housing (called Dimensions) will be instanced, it's going to be a full copy of Telara and will allow players to place their houses almost anywhere.
While I'm not really a fan of instanced housing areas, at least this design gives players some freedom to choose where they want to live.

Thats amazing. The more and more I hear about the xpac the more and more I plan on returning with my brother.
Playing: Nothing
Looking forward to: Nothing
whoa whoa.. are you saying it's an alternative reality planet where mobs DON"T exist.. So Rift is going ot have to 2 seperate realities going at the same time? ha ha.. Alrighty then!!
or the logical instance would tell you that it would be a section of the city instanced off?
I see no purpose in noninstanced housing. It just provides another unrealistic aspect of a game to break immersion.
The cities in Rift are smaller than an EQ2 guild hall (not exaggerating), no room for housing
There's a key difference here that I would like to point out.
When some people see "instanced" they start frothing at the mouth.. But this is no different, mechanically, than say DAoC (Which was an amazingly presented form of housing for it's time).
It's instanced, from the "real world", but not from each other. That's a key point everyone should understand. Provided, of course, that *I* understand it correctly.
Im wondering if the insides will be instanced or if it will be like SWG where you didnt have to zone to enter houses
I received some additional information last night regarding housing which differs from what I had originally posted.
From what I've gathered, the housing area is still a separate instance of Telara but instead of being able to place a house where ever you'd like, it appears that you'll only be able to occupy an already existing structure.
how will they be decorated? and will we be able to decorate the land around the home as well? and can we change the look of the house model itself?
ask.... ask ask....
