Why did they make EQ 2?

They could have slowly just updated EQ 1 and kept a strong fan base instead of just thining it with the crap that EQ 2 is. Sadley I play WoW now and even tho i am done with EQ nothing will ever give me the same feeling that EQ of the post luclin days did. EQ 2 is a joke I had a 50 wizard and got bored as hell of just walking into instances killing a boss and your done so repetitive. The old EQ you at least had to go way deep into dungeons to kill a boss and the items were neat and unique. All of EQ 2's items are either in some way a set or very hard to distinguishe due to there very standard name exclusing a few godly items. ANYWAYS BACK TO THE POINT. EQ 1 is looking better and better graphics wise and the game overall is still better then EQ 2. I have no clue why Sony was so stupid to waste so much money on the crap that EQ 2 is. EQ 1 even has better locations, bosses, graphical armor, etc. IN THE END, EQ 1 if they had updated the graphics fast enough, could have still kept a very strong fan base and stayed on top of the MMOPRG franchises. It's just sad how EQ 1 was the type of game where to me items didnt matter to me becaue the community and locations and sights you saw captivated you so much that you just loved logging in to see what was new.

EQ 1 and EQ 2 are totally completely different games. The only similiarities is the name and the places. The graphic engine is different, gameplay is different and story line is different.

There is no way to fast forward to a few hundred years in the future and somehow keep your lvl 60 Human Pally.

Also, just a side note....EQ2 is not a joke just because your level 50 Wizard is boring you now. You must have liked it to grind your toon to 50 lvls. Is it really the companies fault that you're now bored? Just leave the game and relax. No need to be upset over it ::::20::

Also, in 2 days the expansion comes out for lvls 50-60 plus unlocking arena style PvP. So if you're are bored with your lvl 50 Wizard you now have 10 more lvls....and a different way the mage will use his magic due to the combat revamp

People who have to create conspiracy and hate threads to further a cause lacks in intellectual comprehension of diversity.

    To make money.

Besides people are going to have more faith in a new game than an old game that they played and didn't like even if it has been upgarded. Remember though there are people out there that like Everquest 2 although many would say that they're all mad.

Some favortie EQ memories, Gfay, Oasis sand giants, Freeport, Guk, ALL OF THE AWESOME UNIQUE ITEMS AND WEAPONS YOU COULD GET, Plane of Fear, First day of Kunark zoning into Firiona Vie, First day of Velious coming in on the huge boat. After that it went to shit with Luclin and the so/so graphic on character upgrades which I think were for the worst since all the unique looking armor became standard looking with the new player models. The game was great tho and honestly if they could rewind to velious and have just put more effort into the original 3 continents, Kunark and Velious, the game may of turned out a hell of alot better. Although I did like PoP and felt like grinding there was fun and worth it.

At first i loved EQ2 (in SOE's family and friends closed beta)

Then i quickly realised that after level 20 the game seems to lose interest of fun for you and decides to punish you with hours of waiting and trying to do the same bloody quest for days because theres noone online! Also zoning kills the immersion.

That world event quest that came out and needed a 2 group raid, i was never able to do on my server because there was sooo few people on at peak times (like 5 a zone) that you couldn't get anything done!

You found yourself soloing in a game meant for grouping unless you joined the RP servers. I soon quit the game due to lack of a friendly mmorpg community and lack of people!

Also after trying out the expansion (i know its a beta and im a tester but this was make or break for me) I decidded to quit! These are the reasons qhy:

    • PVP is very buggy and unbalanced
    • your pets go through the walls in the arenas
    • Casters are very overpowered
    • The combat system just feels horrid with PVP
    • The games engine doesn't suit it!
    • The lands on the expansion look no where as near as good as the trailer (unless you have the tools to tweak it like SOE)
    • all the content just feels like it was dragged out of the original game and put int he expansion
    • I was hoping fo sumthing different : all i got was the same game but on sand that looks crap!
    • Even in the desert theres no weather, the sand also looks very flat :
    • They are releasing the expansion very early, very buggy and we havnt had the chance to test eevrything yet!

I mean typical SOE, release it b4 it's ready! You'll be as shocked as the rest of the bets testers on how early they are releasing it :S

try out Vanguard if you liked the early eq, one of the influential developers of early eq is Brad who is behind Vanguard.
As to eq2, you can see the reasoning there was more next gen mmorpgs coming on the market, and eq is especially behind in terms of engine and graphics, they've improved it a bit but its not going to be as good as a new game started from scratch. However, it being called eq2 is somewhat of a disappointment as it shares little with the original eq much like ac2 and ac1.

Because SOE lacks the vision and talent to create something new and they wanted to milk the name. EQ1 was not created by SOE.

Sure it was.  SOE was named Verant.  There was no purchase of a company called Verant because Verant is SOE.

Until you cancel your subscription, you are only helping to continue the cycle of mediocrity.

More aptly said: Verant was absorbed by Sony to become the foundation of SOE. Verant was definitely purchased by Sony.

Verant were originally the developers and SoE I presume the financial support. Some of the developers left when they no longer had hands on with Everquest. SoE carried on but changed the "vision" of the game and went on with a new one on a different path from the original. So a lot of people see 2 eqs, pre pop and post pop. To Soe's credit they kept people playing and improved a lot of aspects (for example the graphics to keep EQ on par with new games) but they also ruined big parts of the game. The new game was streamlined levelling to 65 to set people up for the raidcentric game with massively inflated items in poorly designed zones with poorly designed mobs. The only thing that was really good were the raid encounters, but it wasn't the game I started and enjoyed.

everquest 2 is the biggest mistake SOE has made. asside from the great graphics and the decent combat system this game deserves to be flushed down the toilet. The gameplay is bland the fact that if you die in  a dungeon you have to go through the entire instance again alive to get you body is ridiculous. this and the fact that you have shared xp debt is just plain retarded. the game has like 4 armor styles through the entire damn game and no end game content worth taking the time for.
