This game should of been a planned free 2 play. AoC has made a killing going F2P and if they would of continued to slip out content (MINIGAMES) They probably would still be making money. Now they release this with GW2 (which is F2P) right around the corner, its silly. They could of locked some of the 9 weapon types and sold them in a cash shop. Apperance can be appealing in this game that could of been a cash shop hot item. They dropped the ball here and although once again Funcom will make out like a bandit at launch, I feel bad for those that dropped big mponey for lifetime subs and subs for year etc etc and when it goes F2P (which it will numbers dont lie) you will end up getting shafted just like they did to those VET players on AOC. I played the beta and thought it was awesome and innovative but definately not worth a 10 dollar + sub.

The minute it goes F2P is the minute I've lost all respect for Funcom.
* Good, honorable, gamers will continue to pay the bills so freeloaders can enjoy the game.
* Sandboxers and Carebears are 2 sides to the same coin.
Do you have the magical sliding scale that shows the amount of content needed for each dollar on the tier? 5.99/month on up?
Let me have a gander at it.

It is planned F2P, Thats why they are charging money for every breath you take. When it fails they just remove sub and box price then VIOLA!!!! the game becomes well populated and they earn more money as f2p.
LOL Bravo! I cracked up
I'm fine with that...to a point. Just don't let a single freeloader go from level 1 to max level without paying a cent.

Rojo beat me to it. TSW is built to be F2P, but they are going to milk a box price + sub fee out of those who buy the game over the course of the next 3-6 months or so, then they will pull the trigger and make it F2P.

Yea sure how about more than three pvp event, how about documented end game that will be there at launch. How about a road map of things to come for justification as to why I should be paying a sub in the first place. These are a couple of things off the top.
Welcom aboard tail end charlie, wait and see how the life-time subs get treated when it does go free to play.
MAGA
I lost all respect for Funcom long ago when they shafted millions of players at the AOC launch. This will be F2P, prepare to lose all hope my friend.
If they go F2P, I hope that every bit of new content like new boss raids, new pvp areas, new maps... ALL go into the cash shop.
Why? Because those stuffs are expensive to develope, and income from selling RP items wont cut it.
Besides, why should RP'ers pay while the rest don't?
:P

When it fails.
The MMORPG community is all doom and gloom, isn't it? Everyone has their own agenda, I guess.
Charging money for:
Slots beyond 3. Not a new practice (See FFXI)
Pre-Launch name reservations beyond one. The fact that one is already provided is more than most do these days.
and Various "Upgrade Packs" starting in cosmetic and early-game (QL1-3) gear and culminating in a lifetime sub.
It's launching with a clothing store.
The wonderful thing about all of this? It's optional.
.. But in a good way.
Hey I am cool with them charging for new raids, areas etc etc but just not a SUB. I want to know what I am getting, not pay for what "could" be.
if i pay for the retail box i dont see why i shouldnt do that. And if it goes free for all, then they can make a smarter move than they did with conan also
So many experts with deep knowhow of F-all in here it's amazing...
Really?
I thought everyone in this thread had at least a Masters in Business.
.. But in a good way.
If the game goes F2P im cool with buying expac content. ALthough they did a crappy job with conan cash shop. Id prefer more of a DCUO approach.
Paying for the box, you are paying for the content in the box. So at best you could/should go min level to max level solo.

Why does this have anything to do w/ your respect for the company? You respect a company more for charging you more? How does that make any sense?
Yea that would be a perfect model. DLC packs meant for max level only and "side" stuff. That's how I believe DLC's should be run as well. As purchasable end game content.

It means they have a more active approach to their bottom line rather then going F2P and hoping something "clicks" or "works" and is sellable.
Plus it helps to remove the stench in the air of people trying to always get something for free.
If everyone's paying a sub no questions are asked "well are you f2p or sub" nor do they have to ask "you got DLC x,y,z?"

Im sure you would have felt better and just sold boxes and skip the subscription fee, then they can be a f2p game that still milks box sales.
Who knows, it may not be the market "win"or "fail" people want or expect it to be but hey, unlike some, atleast Ill enjoy playing it for a while.
Oh I'm cool with that too... Problem is, they allready fracked my playstyle from behind.. My stuff is allready in the cash shop.
Now I'm just waiting to see if anyone else gets to pay a sub + extra too for their playstyle.
FunCom lost a lifetime upgrade on the cash shop

With that mentality you would never make it on a Gpotato game. They ban accounts that haven't spent a cent in a 6 month time period. The only way to re-establish your account is to purchase something in the game (even as little as $1.)

That's a bit overdramatic, dont you think.
F2P Isn't all about freeloaders, and I'm not sure where all this hate is coming from. It sounds like you've had some personal issues w/ that in the past. There's already been quite a number of cases that prove that having a sub does NOT mean a more active approach to their bottom line. It simply means they get rewarded for doing less, and just need to keep enough of a carrot on the stick to keep people subbing. It's actually been proven (since WoW) that this has the exact opposite effect on nearly every game with a sub. It's basically up to the developer, not the payment model, to make good on updating their game. This should be evident by now.
I see your point about DLC, however how is that any different from expansions? Even in sub games you have a mix of players with & without the expansions. It matters more how the implement / integrate the DLC, rather than what payment model they use to deliver it.
Im curious.. what IS your playstyle? I noticed a rather large sellection of clothing on npc vendors, missions and as drops so Im kinna wonder what IS locked away from you,
