Well, it's of course only a matter of personal taste, but huh...

Oh, and to those who still think GW2 is a pure tab targetting game, try to turn off "auto targetting" in the next beta event... you may be surprised... some of us already noticed that you can use your skills even if you target nothing at all.

Maybe a fair and more realistic hype would be (it's the best looking F2P game coming out) certainly more realistic than the claims right here on these forums that GW2 is a hybid themepark/sandbox.

I have seen no nation, city or home building, only typical and limited crafting and no unstructured open world pvp, things that would point to sandbox are missing by most accounts, but turn on the over hype machine and they magicaly appear.

No endgame? no levels? no character building constraints, just pick a name and heap on the abbilities? the maps have no edges?

I dont have enough time to get into the pvp claims but add a sub fee and this title would crash back to earth faster than Skylab. Does anyone have a calm, logical, honest review of the game? strengths and weaknesses, please feel free to add it here.

I will try and read it before it's crushed under a mountain of hype.

I will adress the one part that I feel is not a direct attempt to get people to flame eachother or you.

No, the game hype would not go away just because it had a sub fee. If it was only so hyped only based on the buy2play model GW1 would have done 100x better than it did. Alot worse, less innovative/improved titles have had and still do have a sub fee and got just as much hype.

To say its a sandbox is just as silly as saying "its the best looking F2P game comming out". The payment model has NOTHING to do with art/graphics or game mechanics. Thats just silly and uninformed to say.

Want an honest, levelheaded review? Here goes in a fast and simple explination.

Its a themepark MMO. It is enhancing current mechanics of themepark MMO's. Combat is a combination of tab target and action based. Its questing is still "collect and kill" quests though through a more dynamic system. PvP is your typical themepark PvP with a verry large map that has sieges and battleground PvP. PvP in its huge map(think large enough to call open world) is world vs. world. vs. world which the intent is to have server pride. Built into that is the ability for guilds to capture keeps to add to guild pride. Character building is actually verry indepth and I would reccomend looking at everything that goes into skills/traits yourself.

That to me is the basic overview of GW2.

Good lord, first it was SWTOR, then Tera, now it's TSW? If you like your other game so god damn much then post in those forums. FFS, get a life.

Anyway, OP, there are already a few threads on the payment model, look them up.

Does that make it right? I don't condone their action either.

Other forums I visit have a pretty strict policy against game vs game fights in their particular game forum. Would be nice if this site had a similar policy. I get real tired sifting through all of that bullshit here.

Dont expect that here DJ. They would rather give a warning/ban for someone saying they arent playing any faction in TSW because they dont trust funcom than crack down on posts like the OP's trying to start flame wars. Its how MMORPG works. You can flame, troll, pretty much do whatever you want so long as you pick your words carefully. It doesnt matter how OBVIOUS something is so long as you word it right.

Hell no. I hate that myself, but i was just pointing out how this isn't a problem with just fans from other games, but also GW2. Hey, fanboys, what are you going to do, right? Also,  i agree that these vs type threads get better moderation image

Look dude, i like both TSW and GW2 and would like to get both eventually.. It's just that TSW fits my preferences more. When TSW gets boring, i'll move to another game, maybe GW2. And when GW2 gets boring aswell, like all themeparks and video games, i'll just switch to another. I play games from different genres to get different experiences. I don't limit myself to the "superior game".

Sadly this is true. And makes this site less appealing every week. The sadest part about it is that, because of the name, this site still has a lot of players who use it for information. What they get instead, are threads like these that bash / flame decent games with misinformation, slander, or just flat out lies. They also get threads that praise the latest FoTM game as being the best thing ever, only to waste their money on it. I mean hell, I've seen this site blow up over games like Aion, TERA; And we see pretty much nothing from either of those games anymore. They are already forgotten. Yet there's no consequences for the people who misrepresented those games with falsehood.

It is nice to have a site that allows for multiple perspectives / criticism on every game, but it would be nice to have a little more moderation in this regard.

lol even Barbies online is better than TSW.

TSW= pricey subscription fee.   cash shop,  horrible combat,  horrible animations,  horrible character models.

This proves that TSW is more then what some people can handle,......thinking wise anyways, you didn't play the game did you? Or maybe you did and got stuck on Dr Bannermans mission LOL

don't worry beans, there's a MMO coming up that requires zero thinking and only button mashing, need me to state which one? Or do you want to take a guess?

I think it's hilarious that it's called a "thinking person's game" but to each their own!

Back on topic: Would pay a sub for Gw2 over any upcoming or currently released game!

It wouldn't crash onto anything... I'd pay a monthy sub for this game without even thinking about it...

Most polished game I've seen lately and it's still has tons of thing they didn't show us... AND not to mention it's still in beta...

REAL beta, not just this PR crap like TSW or SWTOR had.

Thanks for your input random internet guy 565638983!

I am sure everything you say is true and this game in no way has attracted attention with it's scope, ambition, imagination, and extremely high production values.

One question though... why are people not as excited about those 'F2P' games, which have even less of a barrier to entry, if the price is so important? Are they just not as good?

Just WOAH... I played the beta weekends and if you call this "a thinking game" ... -.-'

This game has nothing that could get you stuck, it requires a little googling and a little common sence. It's easy and boring at best... So please, stop bragging how you "can handle" TSW... You're just emberassing yourself.

Lol at the button smashing, and you claim you played both the games?

TSW is bad, Tera bombed, SWTOR bombed, D3 bombed and still people are hating on GW2. Bizzare!

I would actually pay a sub for GW2, it has already proven its gameplay thru BWEs, and the world is huge!! Content for months and months.

The PvP is like DAOC with some additions, and many players agree that DAOC was one of the best PvP games around, its hard to take anyone seriously when they say GW2s PvP is lacking.

GW2 is the only other mmo that I would pay a sub for at the moment, luckily enough I don't have to.

I feel with all MMOs it's difficult to decide if the game is worth it. I've enjoyed leveling in a lot of MMOs but once you hit that cap, then what? We'll see how things end up once the game is released.

    We have F2P, B2P, P2P.

    Guild Wars 2 is B2P.

It means boss to play. You need to be a boss to play this game.

    Are you a boss?

Nope. Never paid a sub, never will.  Subs are for people that believe to drive a car, they need to pay monthly for the keys.

IMO no mmorpg is worth the sub fee any more. All recent mmorpgs have failed to keep people interested for more than a few months.

? i would say GW2 on BW2 was in  better state than the last TSW beta i test (an TSW will be release very soon)

TSW have many great things, animations/combat are clear not one of them

Gotta put gas in it, insurance, tune-ups, new tires,  etc. :)  F2P, P2P, B2P all cost something somewhere down the line.
