Tera introducing Chronoscrolls (something like Plex in EVE)

mWo4lifemWo4life Member Posts: 119

"Chronoscrolls—in-game items that can be redeemed for playing time—are our way of providing a safe and legal way for players to trade game gold for game time. Players can buy chronoscrolls with real-world money, and then sell them in-game via trade brokers. Players who buy the chronoscrolls in-game can then use them to acquire playing time."

Any thoughts? Is it good or bed idea?

I don't play TERA at the moment,  but I would like to see how chronoscrolls will work or if they will be popular in TERA.

I like the idea of game items or whatever being able to be used for game time, but I wish it was something that could be earned in-game.

That Guild Wars 2 login screen knocked up my wife. Must be the second coming!

Considering how important is gold in enchanting i guess it's selfexplanatory

~and there goes any and all hope of it truly going F2P after the box price, and players complaining about the gold-farming grind at endgame will have more reason to bitch... or maybe less. Hmmm.

I don't play the game myself, but I do play EVE and plexes are fantastic for those guys with more income than sense to share their wealth with those guys with more time than money.

The best thing about plex (and this chronoscroll) is that it doesn't add money to the economy of a game but allows people who don't have the time to do the grind to enjoy the parts of the games they like.

I think ever game should do it.

I dont play Tera but overall I think its a good idea if implemented properly. It gives those with time the ability to play for free and those with jobs and lots of RL money the ability to stay current with items etc. I played Eve and it worked great there.

In my opinion this kind of thing also puts a nail in the coffin of gold sellers. Why risk buying gold from a chinese gold farmer and getting banned when you can just buy a scroll and sell it legitmately?

In my time in Eve I only saw a couple people try to sell gold and they were dealt with very quickly and this is a game that has 14 day free trials with thousands of trial players at any given time. Normally a really easy setup for a gold farmer. By undercutting the gold black market you take a large amount of the profit from it and the gold sellers will move on to another game.

A money-time exchange system like this is generally a good idea, but it needs to be balanced by the rest of the games' design. As long as the game is not designed to require these purchases for regular gameplay or progression, it's a really neat system.

RMT is ALWAYS a bad idea, you can't trust anyone then, not even the developer.Gamers have no idea if the developer gets in on it to further make a profit.

I have absolutely NEVER seen any good come from RMT activity in games.

The purpose of gaming is to have some FUN or at least that is what everyone keeps telling me,real money trading should not be a part of fun gaming.

Nobody shoudl want their game to be like Eve,yo uenter chat and it is infested with RMT trading tons of operations. You know why so many RMT??It is because there is that many using it,so makes yo uwonder how many deserve to be where the yare in game?Gaming should be legit, everyone plays under the same circumstances kids and adults alike, with no outside interference.

The reason RMT was so frowned upon to begin with in early years was players found out how badly it ruins the integrity of the game. You cannot design a game to predict what RMT will do to change the face of the game,so it is AWLAYS a bad idea.

Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.
