Well now that the NDA has been lifted figured we could make a question post, I've been in the best for about 4 months now and if you have any questions about the current state of the game ask away and I will answer the best I can.
As far are Frame specific questions go, I only play Engineer so cant really answer alot on the Recon/Dread/Medic/Assault

How's the game?
Got any keys to share?
What was your overall impression of the game, Red 5 is taking a very unique approach to this game, do you feel that this is the next step in MMOs? Having played for four months and experienced first hand the work that has gone into the game how far do you think the game is from a full release? I know it's slated from sometime this year but does that seem viable given the games current state? Lastly how is the community relationship with the devs, they seem pretty active with the forum community but what about with those of you that are involved in testing? Do they respond and listen to the suggestions put forth?
Thanks for taking the time to read and respond.

Whats was your overall impression of the game: First I will give a quick answer here, overall the game is amazing, but still needs huge work. They are definitly on the right track to being the first company to blend competative FPS with Open world PvE, its fun fast paced action in the frays, but at the same time the maps are large enough for tactical combat and strategic placements.
Red 5 is taking a very unique approach to this game, do you feel that this is the next step in MMOs? Red 5's invitation only untill release system is definitly unique. They send out new waves of beta invites every 2-4 weeks, and with that they give current testers 2 friend keys to give out aswell, so far I've got nothing but good reviews for this system, it has ensured that only those interested in the game( If you sign up on the forums and log onto them each day you have a high chance of getting invited, only took me 2 months of checking each day ) get into the game, and it also has allowed people to get friends or clanmates into the game, which I can definitly tell you gets way better when your doing stuff in a Squad. I can definitly see this being a new trend for MMO testing if it continues as succesfully as it has so far, but then again Red 5 is a different breed then more developers.
Having played for four months and experienced first hand the work that has gone into the game how far do you think the game is from a full release? Firstly I just wanna say Red 5 is taking an oddball approch on "Release", instead of letting us test parts at a time, then when they are finished putting it together and "Releasing" it, they are letting us test everything they currently have available and adding to it as they can. Once they feel there is enough ingame content, then they will title it "Released" and take away the invitation only process, now that being said, in my 4 months huge changes and improvements have been made to the system, if Red 5 stays on the current pacing of updates I could see it being "opened" at the end of the year, but Red 5 isnt going to rush things and if the testers or the devs dont think its ready you can expect a push back on the release date.
Lastly how is the community relationship with the devs, they seem pretty active with the forum community but what about with those of you that are involved in testing? Do they respond and listen to the suggestions put forth?
Simply put, its the best Tester-Dev relationship I've ever seen in about a decade of beta testing, all the activity you see from them on the forum community, you can basicly double that and thats how active they are on the beta furoms. They have listened to the voice of the tester community like none other, when you post feedback or bug reports you can expect a respones that day, giving a small idea of what they are doing in regardes to your topic so that you kno where it is in development. They are still working on very core mechanics to the game, and so alot of stuff is not high on their priority list( friends list, trading, crafting specifics etc. ), but many times so far they have gotten such a vocal respones about certain things that they will movie it straight to the top of the list and we usualy see a fix for it the next week.
Red 5 has definitly been the most accepting devloper of internal input, we see them pretty regularly in-game testing out features, talking with us asking what we think of this and that, asking us to give suggestions and just generally making sure we are having a good time. Over the 4 months I've come to respect the company alot and I see them having huge potentinal to be a big name in the Dev world even after Firefall.
Hopefully that answered your questions to your satisfaction, if not ask again lol
And no I dont have any buddy keys right now, I've been giving them to close friends who I kno are into beta testing games and into FPS' in general right now, but pretty soon I will be out of locals to give and I may start doing contests on here to give them out. Untill then you can sign up on their forums and check in daily for a chance, or check out their Offtopic forum, theres usualy testers running contests for beta keys.

Hi, thanks for opening up the topic.
I am looking forward to an mmorpg with fps action style combat Games like PS2,Defiance and Fire Fall are on my watch list. Do you get "rpg feeling" when you play this game, in relations to leveling up your toon, gear, skills, quest etc. (or more BF3 feeling) Im kinda new to mmorpg, played/test AoC and swtor, but the combat turnd me of pretty quick. FF is skill based fps, how do gear and level play in ?
just try to get into planetside beta, the rest is PvE anyway
"I'll never grow up, never grow up, never grow up! Not me!"
1) PAX videos really only showed the PvP. And your comparison to Unreal deathmatch is not too far off imo. Its still in its early stages so things will change.
2) Right now its not too in depth as far as how you get to make your avatar look. From what they have said though this will expand as time goes on.
3) PvE is the main part of the game. Mainly to get minerals for crafting etc you go out and 'thump' , calling down a extractor that gets minerals by 'thumping' the ground, this causes alot of noise and attracts all the enemys in the area to you which come in waves. There are also random things going on that you can run across like crashed thumpers or ships that you can collect parts from or help the survivors out. Also the main plot globally is you are pushing back this invasion that opens up more and more area to explore.
4) Not currently
5) No I haven't.
You should definitely check this game out then. I definitely get an rpg feeling when playing this through advancing my character, but you also get the fast action of an fps with it. The best of both worlds imo. Level play a role in what equiptment and skills are available to you, although recently they put out a press stating they are getting rid of levels and focus more heavily on skill based play.
Check out the video here has all the details - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eUE9grLXiM8&feature=plcp
Thank you for great info and links, im impresed by what iv seen so far.
Thanks for the response! Can you expand a bit on the crafting? Some immediate questions I have:
1. Is crafting a skill anyone can have?
2. Are there different types of crafting skills?
3. I assume the crafting is for equipment and weapons. If so, is it a tiered quality thing like "greens" and "purples?"
4. Does the "thump" net minerals for everyone grouped up or is this something you solo?
1. Is crafting a skill anyone can have?
Yes, crafting is a big part of the game, pretty much everyone will be crafting at least some. Since you dont find much gear out in the world you are mainly collecting resources to craft gear.
2. Are there different types of crafting skills?
No. Everything is pretty much lumped into 'crafting'.
3. I assume the crafting is for equipment and weapons. If so, is it a tiered quality thing like "greens" and "purples?"
Yes! You can craft weapons, ability packs, battleframes, expendables (grenades and special ammo types). You can use rarer minerals to craft the better gear etc. This is going through a change as to how tiers are done but if you look at the video I posted a link to before it will explain it better.
4. Does the "thump" net minerals for everyone grouped up or is this something you solo?
Yes, if you are in a group the resources obtained from thumping are split between the group. You have a 'scan hammer' that hit the ground and sends out a shockwave that then tells you the mineral percentages of the area you just scanned. You start with a small thumper that if you are good can be solo'd, which gets a small amount of minerals, then a medium sized thumper which extracts more, then a large thumper. Going up in thumper size also means more and more creatures will be attracted which will attack in larger and larger waves.
I'm going to answer questions because I can't believe what some of the beta testers are saying about this game. First off this game looks great and runs very smooth. Lots of great ambient sounds.
1. Basically the game is this... you run around open maps slamming a hammer into the ground, the hammer will tell you how many resources are there, you drop a "thumper" and you defend it. Then you get the resources and make items to do higher level thumpers, to make higher level items. Of course you can queue for pvp, but nobody ever does and queues can take anywhere from 2 to 30 minutes.
2. There's not a whole lot of customization. Well if you look at it like this you can basically play any class like you would in TF2. You just walk up to the terminal and swap it out. As for actual customization within the class there's a "main gun" and about 5 "side guns". They all have modifers like faster fire rate, longer range, etc. You have 3 "abilities" that you can kinda upgrade like for example the engineer has turret - supply depot - force field. So basically you have your main gun, side gun and 3 abilities and you can have "stats" on them that modify them slightly.
3. The point of pve is to get resources and money to buy better gear or craft it for PVP. There are some world events, for example right outside copacabana there is a beach. About every hour or so there is a "chosen invasion" where you have to destroy 5 pillars and kill a floating robot. It's nothing like Rift's world events. There's a few starter quests and then a daily zone quest. Once you level up the main thing you do is thumper / daily quest. That's really it.
4. No dungeons, no raids. Just thumper defending.
The game needs a lot of work. It's basically a TF2 arena with an open world mmorpg to get items for the arena. You probably would just have more fun playing TF2. I have offered suggestions and ideas in their forum but they get shot down by "veterans". I showed the game to my girlfriend, she loved it, but then she hit like level 4 and realized it's the same shit over and over. Thumper -> craft -> PVP -> repeat.
Skamper do you know what Beta means?
So you're ok with a bland game and shooting down criticism? Just like all the others who instantly shut people down the moment they talk about anything wrong with "their" game. Of course I know what beta is, and I also know the developers want feedback.
That is not what I said at all. I agree with you till the end of your post where you saying it needs work blah blah repeat shit blah blah.
You are downing the game simply because it isn't finished. The main focus of the Beta currently is PvP. There will be TONS more to do PvE wise when they move their focus from PvP to the PvE content. So saying its just the same shit over and over is true but very misleading. I'm all for pointing out flaws to fix and have been very active since early Beta. It has come a long ways and has a long ways to go still.
