Hey everyone!
I just made a post in another forum and I would like to share it with you all, even tho if my english is not that good.
"Why do you think we are all here rather than enjouying an MMO?", is a problem that we as players have created. Sure, I am also looking for new MMOs all the time, but recently I have found a solution. We have SO MANY mmorpgs today, that we are spoiled. Imagine if we only had like 5 mmorpgs in the whole world? Would we hate them then? Probably not, we have been spoiled with "great" games for so long, that we do not enjoy the "good" ones. Log in to your mmorpg and try to see it with new eyes. Be happy about what you got and not what you don't have. That saved my frustration!
Some of my might not like my "idea" why we all are here and don't enjoy the mmorpgs we got. But this was my problem and it might be a problems for some of you. In other parts of the world people are starving just for food, while we sit here at our computers and complain about bad mmorpgs? Really?
I think we need to change our way of thinking. Yes, I know that you can use this example with everything we do in our life, BUT now I am talking about mmorpgs. So, go out and enjoy what we have!
Have a nice day all!

I agree 100% and posted something similar here on MMORPG.com.
It went along the lines of players looking for a new game that might have better XY or Z to replace what the are playing now, only to find out after spending $ and time they should have been playing the original game instead of the replacement gaem.
See my Bio, GW1, LOTRO and DDO heavy.
I do agree that it was easier when there were only a couple of options in MMO's, when I started there weren't many so I get that notion. Of course with so many now it's not as easy as saying "enjoy what we have." Still have to find a game you like among the many that are available. I still enjoy games though so I'm not really one of the people that here instead of enjoying games.
Yes, that is right, but I think that a lot of players out there have found their game....but yeah...still searching. For me it was Everquest 2 (sometimes LotRO on Landroval, Guild Wars or Ryzom, also). Took me a while to realize that it was "the one" for me
First priority is to find the fun.
(however, sometimes the fun is in imagining our own worlds)
Yea mmo devs create clone games all day while mmorpg.com people create clone threads all fucking day long.
Get over it, by the title of your post i dont think i need to read any futher since i have read every single possible combination of it before.
Nice write up. And to a point, I agree.
For myself and the few people I know, that have been playing since UO and EQ, it's a little different.
It's not so much being spoiled as it is about changing tastes.
When we first started playing, there wasn't anything else to compare it to.
It was fun and different.
When EQ first announced the Progression Servers, we were stoked.
But, each of us found that it was only nostalgia. It was fun for a few days. But, then it quickly became boring.
We still found games that we found were fun, though. But, each of those games were different from where we
all started. And to top it off, none of us plays the same games. Each of us, as time went on, found that we
described "fun" very differently from each other.
Most of my friends went on to games like WOW, STO, SWTOR, etc...
I found Eve, DCUO and recently, TSW.
None of us game together any more, but we each found games we enjoy.
And it's not a bad thing, really. We still talk to each other about our games, like the pathetic geeks we are, over coffee.
It's not about fighting, it's about balance. It's not about enlightenment, it's about balance. It's not about balance.
Woah, first you say nasty words and then you generalise? And also, why did you come in here at first, if you are so upset with threads like "this one"? I don't visit this thread section that often, so I don't know if I "copied" someone. Stop act like a jerk and try to solve your personal problems, instead of going mad over the internet. Unmature and pointless in my opinion. Have a good day!
There are two closely related problems. First, a lot of people are entitlement happy. They think someone owes them a "perfect" game. Everything has to be flawless and if it's not, they go whine about it. The second problem is that there are far too many games out there. When someone realizes that the game they're playing isn't perfect, they bitch a lot, then they go try another game. Lather, rinse, repeat. Way back in the day, when there weren't that many games out there, once you tried them all, you faced a choice. Either pick one that you enjoyed, even though it wasn't perfect, or go do something else. Today though, with so many to pick from and so many on the horizon. it's just chain-whining.
But here's the reality. Nobody owes you jack squat and there will be no perfect game. Pick one or go away. Stop whining.

On the contrary, I think it is because MMO developers are lazy and uninspired - or under-resourced.
We don't live in a magical bubble where we only play MMOs. Most MMO gamers play other games as well. The reason we are disgruntled is that other genres of gaming have continued to grow and evolve, wheras the MMO genre has been stuck in a rut ever since the release of World of Warcraft and Everquest 2 nearly 8 years ago.
Most games since then have either been carbon copies of EQ / WoW or unfinished messes due to a lack of allocated resources, and as consumers we have had enough. There needs to be some new, innovative and quality MMOs to bring in new blood and revitalise our enthusiasm with the genre. Thats what the problem is.
I agree. If I read another hyped article about how the next MMO is supposed to be revolutionary I think I will barf.
But you know, back when there were only 5 or 6 MMO's to play, there was more gameplay variety between them vs the boring sameness of literally dozens (if not hundreds) of modern MMO's.
Weird isn't it?

If there were only 5 MMOs, and they weren't good games, then I wouldn't consider myself a MMO gamer.
The above is my personal opinion. Anyone displaying a view contrary to my opinion is obviously WRONG and should STHU. (neener neener)
