I didn't try crafting, but it looks like you get pieces for crafting by killing monsters and disassembly. This is way better than what I had to do in SWTOR. I either had to play 10,000 credits in the auction house for one lev 2 gem or take 30 mins to search one area of a planet for the misisng piece of crafting matterial. Or send my companion on missions (almost forgot). I undestand crafting should take some effort, but it felt like too much grinding to make a pair of orange boots. I rather get rewarded crafting pieces rather than search on top of the virtual mountain for some rare ore, but that is just me.
After just re-reading that, I sounded like the converted xboxer I am and not a true MMOer

I didn't get into any resource collecting in TSW. What I really liked though was the crafting window. It's kind of a rip off of Minecraft's crafting window, but on vitamins. This is a good thing, not a bad thing.
I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.
Crafting in TSW is a nice change for those of us tired of doing it the 1337 WOW way (and that includes SWTOr with its rare, heroic-drop only crap): you get items that drop during normal play, break them down and create new things...works for me.

Sounds like #winning to me.
When you get lucky in TSW and get what you need via disassembly for your weapon upgrades, it's nice. When you have bad luck and come up short, requiring you to grind mobs to get more drops to disassemble, it's not very fun at all. The AH should help alleviate that, as long as the shortage of metal is just a fluke of random loot drops and not broader in scope.
I found understanding disassembly and crafting to be an absolutely crucial element of the game, while cash seemed to be plentiful, with little to spend it on. I think the best advice I could give anyone new to the game is to read and digest a good TSW crafting guide, or two, before playing for the first time. At least learn how to disassemble items for crafting components and how to upgrade those materials to higher grades. The worst thing you can do is sell the gar drops you find to vendors or delete them for bag space.

I can't say I enjoyed the crafting. The Weapon Kits were few and far between when I was playing. Even if you managed to get anough parts, you'd be lacking on the kits.
You could straight up buy potions and disassemble those for parts though.
Think I had about 20 weapon kits at one point in my inventory..had so many kits I didn't really know what to do with em at one point..
Here's a link to a great TSW crafting guide:

It appears to undergo a lot of upkeep and it has detailed, comprehensive information about crafting everything from Anima to Weapons to Talismans.
This game is not stingy with resources, you dont really have to grind like a cow or go treasure hunting for it. It comes as you go along. I had so many weapon kits i dont even know what to do with em. If your short on resources like dust and metal, just disasemble unwanted gear and youll get it. Gives you a good reason not to sell off your under lvl gear.
The ala minecraft window crafting system really got me into trying things out cause i played minecraft before. To be honest its a step for me cause i never bother crafting at all in any mmo's before this, not even WOW. The fact that this got me to even bother about crafting is already a miracle.
