Ever wake up (or cease to be 'zoning out') and realize.. 'wow.. MMO's have ruined my life'? haha. I sure have. Fired from my job, countless failed relationships, sore fingers, wearing dirty clothes, leavint the apartment only to take out the occaisonal bag of garbage. All other time is devoted to MMO's and the few sweet hours of sleep. Grr i'm so addicted. Recently i've been playing Gunz.. got really boring after a bit. Who agree's? Also been active in Xiah. But OMG it's SOOOO hard to lvl. Stopped playing Gate to Heavens because the item compose was just too complicated for my taste. Also the extreme lack of area's to explore. EQ2 = a scourge of the wallet. EVE was just too.. spacey for me. Martial Hero's is tiresome. I was an outside/undisclosed consultant for the new EQ2 expansions and so-forth.. but no one else is giving me a shot. Any game developers out there need an extra set of hands, let me know. I need something new. It's killing me inside.

If you let a mmorpg ruin you life then you need help.
Personally i think they are too linear to get addicted!
Just get bored after i'm used to the game :P

I'm afraid Scara is right. You need to get out more if you let a mere 'game' rule out your life. Seek help.. immediately. This is an addiction and like all addictions you need to admit you have a problem, tell it to yourself and SEEK help. It's just like gambling, everything has to be taken in moderation. Consider playing Single Player games from now on, at least they have an end..
Well, at least you choose to go down with style...in a MMO. Not harming anyone, not taking any permanent and regrettable decision. Not doing anything wrong, but playing casuals games.
Could be far worser, you could have gone to the local pub and get drunk every night. Nah, remains with the MMOs fellow, they are MUCH better for your and your RL community.
You may want to seek help, but it has nothing to do with your choice of playing MMOs, and if you choose not to, it is cool, you aint hurting anyone (not even yoursel, since 1 day you may decide to resume RL and your brain is not dead with some nasty stuff) feel free to enjoy to your heart content! The fact you pick to play MMOs over RL doesnt mean MMOs are the problem, it means that you are having serious issue with some stuff on how RL happen. Will you resolve them or not is not my business, nor the business of anyone else, but I am glad to have you around online for the moment!

Yeah I am addicted too , I've spent a majority of my time playing them and noticed my grades, sleep, and RL friendships all going downhill :b
I've done alot better recently though, but MMO world is usually so much more interesting then RL
Real life = worst mmo ever!! Mean community, trade skills take 'forever' to get up, and the good ones take even longer! And the monthly price is to high :b
I wrote out a reply and it doesn't seem to post:
There's Internet Anonomous clubs with MMOG sections, believe it or not. If you live in the Tampabay area they meet last Wed of the month in different locations. These 2 people have been trying to quit WoW for like 4 months. Fairly pathetic actually. ;-)
But good for you! Admitting to it is the first step! If you can't quit on your own accord I reccomend canceling your credit cards or telling your CC Company not to allow payments to certain companies.

PLEASE SOE MAKE A CLASSIC EQ SERVER. Shadow of luclin was a prick in EQs side. PoP Was a gun to the face.
You can try out being a play tester for a bit to get into the game industry. The key is converting your hobby/addiction into an income generator.
Agree 100% with scaramoosh. Any activity - MMOGs or something else - that has a materially detrimental affect on your life - grades to drop, flunking school, breakdown of relationships, poor personal health and hygiene, etc - is harmful and you need help. I personally believe that such levels of addiction are a window to deep-rooted problems - just another crutch to either avoid an unpleasant situation, thoughts and feelings.
If you can acknowledge that you have a problem, then that's the first step to treating it. Once you step outside your behaviour and can maintain distance and perspective, you realise just how much you're missing (unless you live in West Virginia :P). Addictions are really small, menial, pathetic things but become magnified as being important and significant factors in ones life.
It's only a problem if YOU think its a problem. Clearly you do, otherwise you wouldn't have bothered to post. Hope you can take the first steps to treating this addiction.
All the best,

P.s. I could never become addicted to games - MUDS or MMOGs - again after my uni grades slipped due to my MUD playing. Not to mention my Herculian social life, drinking, wenching, etc. I also have missed out on at least 2 Grade A opportunties to score with some honeys due to games:
1. Networked Doom session in '95. Said honey walked out after ignoring her for 2 hours to frag my friend 39-0. Bumping into her the following term, I realise that (a) she was an absolute honey and (b) she had ZERO interest in me after the Doom episode.
2. Goldeneye (N64). Actually, I blame pills for this failure to pull. Golden, and I mean, golden opportunity to score with another honey back in 2000. As soon as I brushed past her, I knew she was interested. Talked to her in the bar, the club, the taxi to my friend's house, back to my friend's and then .. I witnesssed my friend's N64 and a copy of Goldeneye. Immediately, I challenged my friend to "just one game" and was told in NO uncertain terms that said honey was "going home if you're going to just play games all night". I mollified her and promised her it was "just one game". She huffed, puffed and consented to wait for 5 minutes.
45 minutes later, switching over to FIFA soccer, ready to give my friend another beating, I chanced to turn around and my honey had fallen asleep. There was only one thing to do: put a duvet over her and resume thrashing my friend. Yet ANOTHER opportunity falls by the wayside.
Even Vince Vaughan would shake his head and proclaim, "Man! You're so NOT money!"
I suck
"If you think I'm plucky and scrappy and all I need is love, you're in way over your head. I don't have a heart of gold or get nice. There are a lot nicer people coming up. We call them losers."
hahaha.. yeah thanks for the support everyone. Life HAS gotten me down recently, tis the reason I fade away in video games :S. My father killed himself a few months ago and left a note that didn't put me in the best light... anyway, it's just a phase. I'm living off savings and the money my old man left me, forgetting to take me out of his will. hahaha.. but soon enough i'll run out of money and realize that i need to get a job, re-build a social life, and play MMO's only in my free-time. Starting today actually, meeting someone for cofee. God i love cofee.
..and already it seems like he's back on track with life.
MMO's isnt the problem.
The problem is how you discipline yourself.
MMO's never ruins lives.
It's everyone's choice whether to play or not.
I think what you need to do is to find out ways on how you can discipline yourself. Like make a schedule for gaming and for your real life.

There is so much of life you are missing.
Good luck.
How is allowing one activity affect your personal life to the point of ruin "far worser" than any other activity?
People can face ruin from simple activities like reading, or some other hobby. Its an issue of mental health. Personally, I think, if he had gone out to drink at the bar he probably would've had someone interviene, resulting in a wakeup call. IE-get into a fight and wake up in jail, DUI, maybe even getting him laid(dooubtful seeing as women tend to have a monopoly on mental health issues in a relationship)
Wow.........
i think you should go to a professional with this problem...
not to be mean
only for help
