This Thursday (6/28), our own Rob "Grakulen" Lashley will play some Planetside 1 while chatting with Planetside 2's Creative Director Matt Higby and Senior Art Director Tramell Isaac about the ways in which PS1 influenced PS2, and what we can expect from the highly anticipated sequel. cant wait for this ... since the E3 stream vids on utube i've been watching them daily
pity there was so little footage of VS ... but i guess the best get less footage since the others need to get some players also
Please ask them to go into more detail about how they are going to stop hackers... That is a major selling point for me and others who played planetside 1.
On a side note, I think it will be very ironic and kind of funny if Rob "Grakulen" Lashley has a face to face encounter with a few of the nasty hackers that still run around in planetside 1...

I agree with Tiny, I want to know what they are specificly doing about hacker scum and how they are going to keep them out of the game. Also it would be re-assuring to know that it's not going to be a P2W scenario with Colonel Deep Pockets walking through the battle field dropping pots and using his uber armour to absorb damage then one shot Private Married With Kids!

they said in a bunch of interviews that they will have a few things to counter hacking from a program to spot hackers to admin/mod, customor service to actually see if that someone is actually hacking, thou we will see how exactly this will be handled later( personally i hope they keep their promise and actually catch ppl that hack)

last time i was almost as excited a bout a game was when Firefall was announced and i started seeing vids about it on youtube but now i even felt the need to make an acc to actually ask question on a stream for this game will be even better since u actually play agains players and they can be a lot more unpredictable than any AI out there right now
also i played PS1 a long time ago ... but i was kinda lost( only made it to the battlefield once was there for a bit ... died and then it was hard to get back to it again so i havent played it since .. but i loved the concept behind it and PS2 is bigger and it will not be as hard for new players to get tha hang of it as PS1 was
also in a bunch of interviews and vids i saw they said and shown how the shop will work
u can only get customization like skins and trinkets for u to look different ... i saw a max skin where u had a bulkier armor on u .. but it didnt make u more powerfull .. it only changed how u look the amount of armor it had was the same
and the weapons that they had there did not make u more powerfull .. it only changed like faster firerate but lower dmg ... better accuracy but lower firerate and u can also get those with ingame resources and certifications, some things that actually made u a bit better were ingame resources only sold in shop .. and the things they shown were quite balanced but it was alpha build and we'll see again if they keep their promise on this also and dont make it a p2w game
I wish they'd say once and for all why they decided to turn the MBT's from PS1 into 'battlefield' style one-man-army machines in PS2.
In PS1, you had seperate drivers/gunners for the MBT's, and you had to 'hop out' in order to change seats. This helped promote team-work and even made the game more 'fun' when you and a buddy were comunicating over voice while fighting 'together' in a tank.
In PS2. 1 persone in a tank is 'also' the gunner, and you can aparently 'hot-swap' crew positions without having to get out of the tank. So while it might give you a 'slight' help to have a 2nd persone on the secondary gun, you realy dont need him as you can simply hot-swap to the 2nd gun to shoot at any aircraft that come by, and since the driver is now the 'main-gunner', the MBT's have basicaly been turned into oversized lightings, and we'll hardly ever see the 'running-fights' between tanks anymore as its kinda difficult to shoot at something 90-130degs to your side, while driving around tree's and rocks.. and other things you'd noramly use as cover.
I realy want to know why they felt they had to 'remove' one of the biggest 'team-work' aspects of the game, even Skyguards (2 person AA buggy) have been replaced by the single-seater Lighting (that was in the origional game), which now can fit the "flak" cannon the skyguards use to have.

ShadowWolf81 yea making the tank be one man driving and gunning is making the game somewhat less needy to actually group up but as for switching to the air turret even if u "hot-swap" kinda leaves u a sitting target
honestly miself i played tanks in other games that had driving and guning spot and if ur aware of the environment its pretty easy to drive even if u dont look where u drive and actually shooting someone and any degrees around your tank ... so i'm ok with this also but i agree 1 spot for driver 1 for shooter would make the game a bit more teambased ... but they are trying to be more of teambased and solo style with this ... and if they leave the ammo pack on light it will be solo gameplay and teambased since as a solo u tend to die faster than a heavy for example if u really dont know how to play it and dont hide behind cover use jetpack but they will change that .. and give the ammo pack to some other class .. now to what class its kinda tricky for the class that has it can do lone wolf gameplay .. but if its not on light at least the others cant jumpjet unless they have some kind of cert to allow jumpjet on other classes ... i'd only be ok for a infiltrator to like swap its cloak with a jump jet with certs so if its a sniper he can hop walls and start sniping from above but others should not get jumpjets
The thing is though, most other games with tanks, such as Battlefield, the maps are tiny, you only had to 'think ahead' maybe 50-60 feet in any direction of you in your tank while driving-gunning. In Planetside, the area around you is almost 500x larger, and you have alot of other 'friendlies' driving/walking around with you. Your spacial awareness drops incredibly fast when you add in all those extra people/vehicles and objects.
I drove both lightnings and Vanguards in PS1, i could manuver threw woods and around rocks expertly while also keeping my gunner in a position to shoot at the enimy while in a Vanguard, but in a lighting? i'd hit almost 1/2 of teh objects/people/vehicls around me while trying to fight another lighting, or another vehical simply because you cant watch were your going + shoot at a target who's at an angle to you.
The balance for the greater power (mbt vs lightings) in PS1 was the need of a dedicated gunner. Theyve completely removed that 'need' for the greater power in PS2. Every single player can now use the hardest-hitting ground vehicles without needing any 'teamwork'. Where befor, you needed it.
I'd just realy like to know the Dev's reasoning for the change. (and if that hot-swapping of seats is a permament thing, or just a alpha thing)
yea as i said they focused on no need for teamwork for other fps players that dont really do teamwork ... they just like someone at E3 that was interviewed like to "kill people":))
i was lawling so hard when i first saw that one answering what he likes about planetside 2
so they just want to increase the player base by being appealing to other fps gamers ... as for "hot-swap"they could remove it but again dont think that will happen but u can tell them about this as many times as u want on all their comunication channels and maybe if u get a lot of ppl to agree with u on the need to exit the vehicle they might remove the "hot-swap" as for making the tanks 1 spot drive 1 spot shoot its kinda hard to do now .. they would need to rework a lot of code to make it happen so pretty sure it wont change
Im not trying to listen to there politically correct answers.. All they have said is they will have things in place to counter hackers. I want specifics, I want to know how much they are putting into stoping hackers... But they said this in Planetside 1 and it became a hackfest.. One of the most notorious hackers SGprohet took years to finally get the ban stick... I wont even get into all the people that I watched fly around as grunts and do all types of crazy things and if they got banned it took forever...
I played PS from 03 to 10 if you include the monthy sub fees 12.99/m, the game, 49.99/m and the expansion 29.99/m, I would say I paid close to $800+ on this game. So I want to know exactly how much time and in detail what they plan to do about hackers.

bah i was exhausted because for the last month i havent sleeped well for i was over excited about Planetside 2 and fell asleep at 2:30 am and the stream would of been at 3:30 am for me yesterday i managed to stay till 3:30 am but i realised at 3:00 am the stream would of been today at 3:30 am and only sleeped 4 hours and couldnt sleep at all during the day
had some questions that i wanted to ask personally and i dont want to reactivate my fb or make a twiter to ask those questions and give my suggestion but the questions and suggestions would of been these:
heard a rumor about Matt Higby hair ... that its OP and will be nerfed into the ground

Is SOE or at least the devs of Planetside 2 split up since all of that faction bias haha or they like the Vanu are VS technology gods secretly? or money beats any kind of bias
what class will have the ammo pack if its not on the light anymore?
my suggestion at first was to be on an engi .. but engi should receive the max revive since its the one to repair the max also ... infiltrator should not receive the ammo either since it can snipe and has cloak (even better cloak for like an assasin/disruptor infiltrator)
the infiltrator should be able to swap the cloak for a jumpjet also if u dont want a cloak ghili suit like for the sniper infiltrator if u want to like jump on buildings and stuff like that so that u can snipe from where the sniper is best used from .. high places and not have to walk a lot to get there
now some ppl here told me to ask about some things
if they really will have those anti-hack stuff in place or it will become a cash cow where they dont really do anything about hackers like it happend with Planetside (seing how their site was hacked a little while back and we had to change passwords how exactly are we to trust they will actually be there and have a bunch of stuff to actually stop hackers)
will we be able to cert into useing the tanks 1 driver 1 shooter like it was in Planetside 2 later on or they will remain the same as they are now since some ppl might love the 1 driver 1 shooter seats
and it will make the tanks more teambased and the driver would actually see where its going and not crash into rocks and stuff
myself i like both styles of tank play ... i played drive and gun type of tanks games and also more teambased style of tank where if ur driving or ur shooting u are better at it since u only need to drive or shoot and not worry about the other thing so ur more focused on the driving or shooting in a tank
wanted to applaud them the fact that they have a vo-ip ingame since i hate outsourced vo-ips like ventrilo
