Personally i think SWTOR will end up for me just like TSW did, fun to play for some time, and then i will move on. Its a nice setting, and the story feels enthralling.
So an 8.7 would be a nice thing. But only if GW2 ends up with 9.5 or higher.
MMORPG gave SWTOR an 8.7 and since TSW is SWTOR with fewer quest options and bad combat and a different seting then I say the MMORPG T shirt may make up the difference and TSW will get an 8.7.
I give it a 6 for being a SWTOR clone with
That's a new one from the negative crowd.
Not really, it is a single player story driven RPG with fewer group instances, fewer raids, and generic PvP options. Big war area like Illum or WoW's alterac valley but the other two PvP zones were well below average. In SWTOR you would finish your main story, play a bit and cancel, or roll an alt or the other faction for a new story and then quit. Hence the story based MMO sameness.
So your entire basis for calling it a SWTOR clone is that both games put a much heavier emphasis on story than the average MMORPG. That's essentially the only thing these two games have in common that they don't typically share with other MMOs.
It ignores the class system, talent system, level system, the fact that SWToR has systems in place that encourages alts while TSW discourages it just a bit less than FFXI.
Methinks you tried too hard to sum it up into a sensationalist little quip.
No I mentioned everything you brought up in my OP to justify why its score should be lower. My words of choice were "poor combat" and "game mechanics that are not fleshed out." Complexity does not shroud flaws.
It will get a higher score than it dhould simply due to the ingame tshirt. Anyone that thinks such an item doesn't influence is extremely naive or just plain dumb. It should be rated somewhere between 7 and 8, but will get higher due to stroking of the ego by Funcom with the tshirt.
DEFINATELY higher than TOR. IMO TSW should get a 10/10 because of:
- Originality
- Skillsystem
- Setting
- Voice acting
- Story
- Independent developer
- Moving the genre forward
I am also glad to see that many people are ACCEPTING that pay-to-play IS STILL a valid business model to keep QUALITY MMOs alive instead of the crappy F2P. And TSW is a QUALITY MMO - the best I've seen for many years.
I've played ALL beta week-ends, and the GAME NEEDS that you take 2-3 hours with it before making up your mind, fight into the Savage Coast and see why it rolls and rocks and is just plain awesome. KIDS will be going "awwww animations" - hey, when i started playing, THERE WERE NONE and the games WERE STILL GREAT. Let the whiners cry about wanting F2P - it's not what the MMO industry is buit on.
EARLY ACCESS STARTS TODAY. See you (some of you) in-game, awesomeness ahead!
"Player reviews" aren't any better to listen too. Diffferent gamers have different tastes and will score a bad, not based on the overall elements and mechanics of a game, but on a certain features. In the case of TSW, the combat is so bad to some that it cans trike out 2-3 points. To me, it's such an small part of why i care about the game, that's it's no big deal.
The only review that matters is your own. And as it as been stated times before, even outside of this thread, review is another way of saying personall opinion. To me, TSW's problems are CC, animations and combat (abit). Also, Fusang. However, the rest of the game is very original and unique and it's not a wow clone. To me, that puts it far ahead of Rift, which is the number 1 on the ranking (except EVE).
Actually the final verdict in an MMO is not whats important... because diffeerent people have different opnions and value different things. But almost any indepth game review is good when you read through it and base your opinion on the things written down. That should be enough for everyone to find out if they will like it, or not, and probably how long the game might keep your attention.
With most MMO´s i know upfront that they will probably keep my attention for a limitted time only, i pre ordered TSW to play through its story a single time, just as i did with SWTOR. I had a good time playing my month in SWTOR, and so will i when playing TSW. Probably even better because of how much i like the dark nature of the story.
Best MMO experiences : EQ(PvE), DAoC(PvP), WoW(total package) LOTRO (worldfeel) GW2 (Artstyle and animations and worlddesign) SWTOR (Story immersion) TSW (story) ESO (character advancement)
At any event it should be above 8.7. But it can't score above 8.7 because TSW isn't mainstream enough.
So i expect a solid 8.5 TSW is good at what it does and unlike recent games it's features are fleshed out and working.
Most people overhype the issue with CC, but then again. Imagine TSW core game of Story and Deck building would be half finished and broken, now that would be a real issue.

^^ This.
I have play games for to long for someone who, possibly, has less experience then me to tell me what I will or will not like.
I read reviews to find out details about the game and then make my own mind up.
Personally, between 7.8 and 8.3, its got quite a few good ideas but a number of mechanics and systems feel unfinished or rushed.
Good game, but needs some loving work.

I believe it should get a good solid 8.. best themepark MMORPG for years, needs a few tweaks here and there to make it a 9..
as for what score this site will give it.. humm thats a hard one with the t-shirt and all that.. will be high i guess..
God forbid GW2 gets beat out..
worlds would collide.

"Official" reviews are almost always payed.

Average "professional review" = 7-8 (with promises of higher scores if certain key concerns are addressed)
Average score from players (that don't buy the game or leave in the first month) = 2-3
Average score from players (that will sub after the first month) = 8-9
My personal score is ~8
No idea if i am right but at least i decided to spend all my gaming efforts into this title, that good is it to me.
7.5 - 8.5

Hmmm, Rift got a 8.7 and is technically a better game. SWTOR got a 8.7 and well...we know how that went...So I'm predicting....8.7.
its a better game than both (mind rift is a better game than swtor)
1.1 not worth any more IMO

this.
7-7.5 as an absolute maximum on the sites I care about.
