Advertisements?

steeler989steeler989 Member UncommonPosts: 665

Since they have now released a release date for releasing this game, when do you think they will start making some advertisements for the game?

Also, what do you think they will do with their advertisements? Will they do TV ads, youtube ocmmercial ads?

I'd love to see a TV commercial. But then again TV is getting outdated, so I suspect its going to be mainly about internet AD's.

I'd prefer they didnt advertise at all prior to launch and let it grow naturally.

Too many AAA mmo's have serious problems dealing with an initial tidal wave of players at launch and create lots of servers to cope with the numbers.

Then naturally people leave in the 1-3 months after.  Then you have empty servers. Then you have mergers which makes the game look like its failing.

No matter how good a game is, a certain portion will leave.  Better to not have everyone jumping on board straight away.

Also, GW2 has word of mouth.  They reached over 1 million beta applications in a few days..    they simply do not need to waste money on advertising.

I'm afraid this is probably going to happen anyway.  Hopefully not, though.

My fear too...  however, the way servers work in GW2 - that you can transfer already..  means there is greater flexibility for shutting down servers without too many issues.  Still, its the impression it gives publically which can be damaging.

If im considering playing an MMO, server merges is a sign things aren't going well  (even though this might not be the case).

It's a business they want to sell as much as possible and through advertisements all those who don't know about the game go and check about it.

I am aware of this...  but it's also short-term impatient thinking.

Considering only the people who know nothing about GW2...     will it make any difference in numbers if they advertise to attract these people now.. or a month or so after launch???   Seems to me the only people who want to be there at launch are people really into their MMO's...  who would know about GW2 already.

NCSOft/ArenaNet never really spend so much for advertisements. Remember the 'agressive advertisement campaign' that was promised for Aion? And remember what we've had? Indeed - 1 month of ads on MMORPG.com and a couple of other MMO sites. But no real advertisements on TV or big ads in gaming stores. It wouldn't surprise me if the same thing would happen with GW2...

I would imagine that most people that are interested in MMOs will already know about GW2 and will have either have prepurchased or not. Some will still be making their mind up, but they still know about it.

Considering how much TV advertising costs i would be surprised if the cost of the adverts isnt more than the amount they could make from the extra box sales.

He did indeed say that. Depending on what segments of gamers you talk to, some watch a lot of TV and some watch TV...on the net.  Personally I would be more receptive to ads on the net as I really don't watch any TV series or news channels (and I'm 38 so it's not an age thing). Internet ads would definitely get to me. They could aslo just run ads during The Regular Show or Adventure Time on CN. You practically have your whole demographic right there.

    There is NO miracle patch.

95% of what you see in beta won't change by launch.

    Hope is not a stategy.
