Great Game with one BIG frustration

AerowynAerowyn Member Posts: 7,928

I'm holding off till I get further into the game for any sort of full review but one thing I really can't believe this game got released without is a LFD tool. If swtor didn't teach dev's anything it's in any sort of story based MMO where you can easily solo through it and get caught up in the single player aspect you really NEED a LFD tool. Not to mention in a game following the general trinity foundations it's even that much harder to find healers/tanks right now with most people just having a DPS deck to start.  I know it's pre-release but I just spent 3 hours trying to find a healer for the first dungeon and finaly we just dropped group and went on our ways.  Really hard pressed to understand how anyone can enjoy sitting spamming chat trying to get a group together... oh well loving the srpg aspects of this game so far but really hope this is a very very soon to come feature planned since I'm already having truoble finding groups for things. Sure others have had no issues finding groups but so far my experience with it hasn't be favorable

I angered the clerk in a clothing shop today. She asked me what size I was and I said actual, because I am not to scale. I like vending machines 'cause snacks are better when they fall. If I buy a candy bar at a store, oftentimes, I will drop it... so that it achieves its maximum flavor potential. --Mitch Hedberg

One of the advantage of being in a guild. Doesn't matter if there is LFG tool or not. I would suggest till something like that makes into the game find a good cabal. I see so many people advertising for it . Grab one and play with guildies.

LFD/LFG tools only are needed if the game design itself is flawed AND the community sucks (like it does in most game nowadays sadly). I'd take a game that actually requires grouping and none of such tools over any of the "modern" MMOs any day. I do miss the day of random invites, people politely asking for groups and/or help instead of those stupid popups that stuff you into a group of total strangers who in 99% of the cases have no interest in talking or social interaction whatsoever except the occasional cursing and insulting of course.

Aaaaaand no, the approach GW2 took there in my eyes sucks at least at much. Just in case that anyone should consider naming that as the god-given gift when it comes to MMO grouping.

Yes, standing around and using the chat chanels hoping to find a tank and/or healer for an hour or more has always been soooo much fun.  Thats how we did it back in the days of UO and EQ, and by God, thats how it should be done today.image

Resisting to fall in line with the usual reaction people show towards such sarcasm I will simply emphasize that with a halfway decent game design such issues should never occur. In days where dual-specs are on the rise the concept could quickly be expanded to just let people switch towards the needed "class" on the fly on small cooldowns. Just to name one potential approach.

Though honestly I personally would even take the waiting (I know how it was from back in DAoC) over the idiotic LFD tool stuff. Without social interaction I could simply play a singleplayer game with AI instead of other players.

A LFG-tool is in development, but they didn't manage to finish it in time for launch. It should be there quite soon - I'm counting on the next major update, but nobody knows, except for the devs ofcourse.

this game does allow this.. the issue is so many people right now are going for a dps deck or build first so we still fall into the great shortage of healers/tanks.. once everyone completes more decks and it spreads out more it shouldn't be much of an issue since most will probably have decks for each role but right now since many play this game like a srpg there is no point in not starting off going for a dps deck. So in turn this game sort of has the opposite problem many games have as it seems it should be easier to find a full group later on than earlier.

I'm pretty sure this LFG-tool won't be like the rest of them. It won't just queue you up, and team you with a bunch of random players. Instead it's an interface where you can add yourself available for different dungeons, listing your gear, abilities and such. Then groupleaders will be able to pick and choose.

I'm in no way sure about this. But I do slightly recall that it should be something like it.

And I for one actually prefer this. It might not be as effective as the others LFG-tools, but it'll be much more social and alike to how it feels grouping in games without a LFG-tool, as you still have to do a *little* searching and such.

all server really matters is for fusang and who you currently "see" on screen. You can group up with or join a cabal with anyone as long as you know their name.. Names are unique accross all servers so no one can have the same name on any other server. Then you can group up with people and use the "meet up" feature to move to their dimension for the duration you guys are grouped.

oh and if a person is in another dimension(sever_ there will be an asterisk next to their name i chat. You can hover over their name and it tells you what dimension they are in

Can tanks even hold aggro in this game??......Seemed like in beta the mobs were just bouncing between group members with no one really tanking it at all......ALso like others have siad TSW is bascially a soloers game with some group elemnts built in...WHile you will find a few people here and there willing to group up and do dungeons, the majority aren't going to want to do it.

Maybe the game has been push because it was necessary, but it's not as finish as it should.(?)

If the Dev are pushing update fast enought this might not be an issue in a couple of weeks.

Unfortunatly patience is for Padawan .

My only experience with a LFG/LFD tool has been with WoW.  The longest I've waited as dps has been about 30 mins.  When I qued as a tank or healer its almost instant.  Maybe its different with other MMOs (what other ones have this feature, just curious) but that might be more to do with them having much lower populations compared to WoW.

The problem with just relying on your guild or random players on your server is that there might not always be someone on willing, or able, to do what you want to do.  If I want to run a dungeon with my dps character but theres no healer or tank available in the guild and none are volunteering in the chat channels (occupied running them with their own guild probably) then what?  I either sit there with my thumb up my ass waiting or log off.  Great choices.  At least with a lfg tool, I have a 3rd option to use rather than just shut'er down for the evening.  More choices, not less, is always better.

I can hold aggro from full DPS no problem, if the Boss is changing target, the problem is indeed the Tank
