Website update?

I haven't been able to reach the HJ website all day. Does this mean the long awaited website revamp is in progress? Does this mean that Simu-Mellisa will let us see HJ-CHade's GM character? Can I have a cookie? Chocolate chip, please. image

Or the servers could've been located near the Gulf of Mexico, in which case "Kat" was no doubt drawn to the screenshots of Suwari residing in the database. ::::39::

Well I hope they are updating the site.

  • RenianRenian Member Posts: 152

They aren't. I just checked the site; it hasn't been revamped.

    So sorry.

Though, they made an announcement over GSIV that something was screwy with the DNS, so that's why you couldn't access the site.

Wishful thinking on my part. I guess it's back to waiting for the update. image

Here's hoping someone with power *ahem* Melissa *ahem*, actually reads this and does something about the website...

Actually Melissa should update her website as well...

Yes, yesterday we were having some problems with our internet service provider.  They fixed them within two hours ... which was nice.  Still we experienced some service interuption.

I keep promising the new site will be available soon!  I sure hope that everyone likes it when it's done.  :)  It's still on the way -- but it's coming along fabulously.

As for my own personal website ... heh.  I'm always amazed that people find that.  Some day I'll find time to post again ...

    Thanks Melissa,

I think we are all looking forward to the update! image

It's great to see you involved in the forums, refreshing... It almost gives one the impression of being heard... image

Hope this means that the forums will be redone too....heh...the most active and repeated topic there is that the forums are far from user-friendly..hopefully someone got the hint.

(disclaimer:  It appears that bashing the forum style is the most active topic...but the forum design is so foriegn that it may be that only those few have been able to figure out how to post, or other topics are elsewhere in there. )

A change to our forums won't be ready by the time we launch the new site.  As we've stated before, it's not that people's opinions are going unheard, it's that we're putting our programming resources towards development of the game right now.  Eventually, we'll provide an alternative forum structure.

Course, I'll still defend the forums and say they're better than any others out there, but I also recognize mine is not a popular opinion. ;)

Of course, we're not terribly shy about venturing into other forums like this one ... so we should be ok until we have the resources to devote to solving the problem.

Simu forums are the best I've ever used, bar-none.

Add a "search" feature and they would be PERFECT.

People who don't like the Simu forums simply have not grown accustomed to them yet.

    or....

maybe, just maybe, they have given them a chance, and they still don't like them.

Sorry, I don't buy it.  See how many people who have been using Simu's forums for years don't like them.  The only people complaining are all the noobs coming in to check out HJ.

There's no way to confirm it either way. The people who post on the official forums regularly clearly have come to grips with the format, while the people who don't like the format don't post there at all. It's a bit like saying "everyone who isn't here raise your hand. See? Everyone's here!" The official forums are a huge turn-off for me, though I'm not overly concerned about that since Melissa and company post here frequently enough. I do miss taking part in some of the discussions that must occur over there, but this forum style is so much easier to use that I'm willing to wait until similar discussions pop up here.

As long as the development team continues to do their best when it comes to keeping both populations informed and consulted (where appropriate), it wouldn't bother me if the official forums stayed the way they were; it'd be nice if there were an option to select a more traditional style in order to contribute to the brainstorming, but it's not a major source of dissatisfaction for me. My interest in the game isn't going to rise or fall based on the way bulletin boards are arranged, but by the game itself; the only thing affected by forum style is my participation in the community.

My apologies, I didn’t realize that people had to have their opinions validated by arbitrary time constraints lest they be labeled and have those invalidated opinions marginalized by someone who speaks in self fullfilling absolutes.

BTW, what's the cut off for validation? Does someone have to use them a year before they can say they don't like them? A half a year? A month? Two years? Who sets this time constraint? You seemed to indicate "years"; just how many does it take to have your voice count? Is this written soemwhere?

Long enough to sort through the folders and get "caught up" on the posts.  When first visiting the message boards and seeing folders filled with hundreds upon thousands of unthreaded posts, I can see how that would be intimidated and unfriendly to a new user.  However, once you get the folders down to a manageable size (and numbers), the layout shows what generally you'd be interested in anyways, new posts.

The website is down again this morning. Should I start more rumors that it is being updated? image

    Nope.

Last night, there was a NASTY storm in Simu's area that knocked out the power, and they made an annoucement to all of their games that this happened, but their generator was working. My guess is that, perhaps, the generator ran out of power. I'm pretty sure that all of their games were down as well with the website, as websites such as Tsoran's Maps and The Crossroads of Elanthia which have player counters were giving a count of 0.

In any case, the website is back up. It's not updated either.

I have been playing Simu's games for 8ish years now. I've lurked on the message boards for several years, and in the past year I've become a very very frequent poster. Probably too frequent for most people in the DR forums--I know I've ticked a few of the thieves off particularly. I've very much gotten used to them by now, and visit them more times a day than is particularly healthy.

And still, I would prefer a stripped-down version of a "traditional" thread-based (i.e. phpbb style) message system to the way Simu's boards are set up. I've made no secret of that fact. While you perhaps speak for a majority of Simu's board-users, you don't speak for all of them.

Thats OK I like your opinions :-)

It's just something you get used to or not. Since the majority of forums is designed like THIS one, people won't change for something less.. Good. Or, rather, learn something new.

But I'm all for the UBB/UBH/BBU (whatever it's called) type of forum. It's one big reason behind it's success. It's easy to browse. Bar none. Easy to find new (and old) posts, search, check other people posts, etc etc. But, it isn't free. And for a company that doesn't have millions in the bank, a forum-change isn't the first priority.

BUT! ... For any MMORPG with dreams of getting a success, a GOOD forum is a 100 % must. It keeps the players "in-game" even though their at work, at school, or at their grand parents.

    Nighty..
