So I've reached QL 3 and I've run Polaris a few times, I'm a Hammer Tank. My problem is that I don't always have aggro, it's really annoying.
My rotation mostly consist of 3 attacks:
Haymaker
Backhanded
Grip Whip
I start with Haymaker, it consumes all my Hammer Resources, then I use Backhanded, which gives me 2 resources if I'm empty, and then 3xGrip Whip, and Haymaker again, rince and repeat.
In passives I have various dmg increase, hate increase etc.
I've tried alot of different rotations but this one seems to work best.. What do you guys do to tank? I'm really looking for something better, that will lock them down to me.

There is a general skill tab, get the first two things, one is AoE agro, the other is x3 agro on anything you do. Then you have agro, also get a hammer finisher that boosts agro.
Swords has the AoE agro spam builder so is better for agro. I didn't notice it when I specced hammers to tank so got some taunts in general tab.
You should be using a second weapon - Chaos or Blade would fit nicely.
Chaos with Escalation + Intensity or Blade with Blade Torrent + Perfect Storm. Alternate Escalation/Blade Torrent with Grand Slam from Hammer tree(ideally Escalation in that case tbh), or Grip Whip + Blade Torrent should be fine as well.
Burn them with your finishers, since you have Grip Whip already you should be able to get Razor Shards easily as well, for your other weapon finisher just use what you can for Polaris.
Most importantly though, go into the left Misc talents, and grab Agitator. Easy aggro sailing from there on.
Thx for the Misc Tips.. hadn't seen the Provoke + Agitator skill, I thougth those misc things were empty actually..this should probably help alot.!!!
I've been thinking about Chaos.. just dont have the AP, mostly been trying out hammer skills it seems.
Have you seen the three "green" misc ability trees?
One of those has a lot of useful tanking abilities with hate-generators. I would start with the 300% hate passive.
noticed a lot of people are missing the misc skills especially for tanking
I angered the clerk in a clothing shop today. She asked me what size I was and I said actual, because I am not to scale. I like vending machines 'cause snacks are better when they fall. If I buy a candy bar at a store, oftentimes, I will drop it... so that it achieves its maximum flavor potential. --Mitch Hedberg
Yep. But I think that will even out with time as more information comes out about this game.
equip some DPS talismans also, don't just equip tanking ones. Being a healer I am constantly telling tanks to put on some dps talismans, you don't need that much health.
I did four runs in Polaris after getting the two aggro skills from misc, it was much better ofcourse. Have decided to move on to Savage Coast and Hell raised, main reason I stayed on and farmed Polaris was to sort my tanking problems.
Just wonder if my Blue Ql 3 Polaris gear is good enough in Hell Raised, and will it be accepted by the PUG'ers? I see they ask for QL 5 geared players, sometimes even ql 6 hmm...

just tank and wait for healer to heal you and try to take agroo if posible is not that hard its being in all mmos over years.
Wait till you are QL 4/5 geared, so at least work your way through the zone as that is the rule of thumb for all instances. Though some of your blue gear may be better so keep those. You want HPs and magic defense and whatever goes with your weapon. At QL4/5 the instance becomes easy, everything is tank and spank or kite and spank. Gear > abilities/passives > skill for tanking. I can say that because I had the gear, came up with a random tank spec in 60 seconds to join a group, and had no idea how to use my hammer build and hell raised was easy, the last boss me and a ranged DPS duoed 75% of it, so wasn't easy for the other people that died, like my healer.
I'm sure anyone who says "tank LFG" will find a PuG. Doesn't mean it is a good idea. Is like tanking anywhere, DPS gear and healer gear is who cares, the tank's gear is the most important thing in the group.
At that level how many hit points should a tank go in with?
Even more important is synergy, people using decks that work with the rest of the group. Some skills do extra damage if a target has a certain debuff, if you are grouped with a player who applies that debuff by default, you are extra effective and in a way, so is he.
You can play a straight healer and that will be just spamming a builder heal and a consumer heal OR you can be a healer who sets debuffs so others heal on hitting those debuffed targets. But that requires working together beyond just being in the same dungeon.
Horror of horror, this game might actually your require to not just switch from your PvE solo play style in groups but even change decks and items!
Tank solo: survive and dps.
Tank group: survive and agro. DPS is NOT YOUR JOB.
Good tank knows this. Bad tank, solo deck build.
Same for DPS, DPS solo, dps and survive. DPS group: Pure DPS, agro reduction. Leave the surviving to others.
Healer: Solo, heal self, dps. Group, heal others, don't get agro, don't get damaged.
Or make up your own build, whatever works for you BUT work with the rest in the group.
