Hello Tera forum, my name is Hector (AcidSnake87) and I will be making my purchase of Tera very soon (within a month, waiting on my PC). I am new to the game but not new to MMO's. I played FFXI for over 3 years and after researching many different free to play and paid for games, I feel that Tera online is the game I will be putting my time and effort into for it's nice looking combat and art style.
I need some questions asked though by the veteran players, if possible.
What is the main tank class in Tera and is Tanking a big part of parties/raids/events?
Are you able to change classes in the middle of the game? Example, in FFXI, your one character can level up all the different classes.
Is making money a chore in this game?
Is equipment a huge part of a players performance or does his skill carry his name as a player?
Is there an "Auction House" or do players buy items through AI?
Is obtaining good gear a chore?
Is leveling up based around grinding for hours or earning exp through missions or a combination of both?
Are there classes considered under powered or are all classes equal in use?
Is end game present?
Can this game be enjoyed alone or are parties a must for a good experience?
Does race affect your stats in any way? Example, in FFXI, a "Galka" had an extraordinary amount of HP compared to other classes and had low MP, making them a weak Mage.
Thanks for your time forum

Not the Tera forum... but...
Main Tank = Lancer, but some will argue Warrior can 'dodge tank', but they aren't welcome in serious PvE because the way they tank involves getting aggro and running all over the place, which makes it harder on DPS because everything follows him. Berzerkers can tank a little in the beginning, but they don't get aggro-building abilities.
No class-changing whatsoever, only alts, and you can have 8 (equal to the # of classes).
Money making is a chore (grind enemies and sell loot), so people opt to buy chronoscrolls (subscription extending items) and sell it for gold. The market on them is dirt cheap atm, it's totally in favor of the buyers.
Skill is important, but your gear is what puts you on par with other players and the content.
There is an AH.
From what I hear (not sure, personally) the better gear is crafted late-game, but before that, the best is quest rewards and rares dropped in instances. Crafting is a bitch, though.
The quest content lines up with the leveling curve nicely, I'm in mid-game and currently ahead of the content I'm doing. Game is nowhere near as grindy as people claim - at least up to level 30 - I can't speak for anything past that.
Over-powered is only something relating to PvP, in which case Slayers and Sorcerers tend to own. The PvE is role-defined and needs a mix of the basic trinity (tank/DPS/heals).
It can be done alone, but instances require a group, and some roamin BAMs (big-ass monsters) can be soloed, but it takes fucking forever (and decent skills, some classes are more suited to it to) - you're better off asking for help when the time comes, or just coming back to it when you outlevel them by 5+.
Races come with some passive abilities that cater towards a certain craft choice, and have other skills that aren't all that helpful - I.E., they aren't used in combat, and are mostly for out-of-combat speed boosts and the Elin/Popori have a warp that takes them back to the capital without a costly scroll.

Thanks for the reply man!
My advice, do a lot of pvp. You will get really bored if you don't.
What other MMO's provide awesome combat?
I hear Guild Wars 2 is where it's at also.
APB:Reloaded, when people aren't cheating.
~S4 league as well... when people aren't cheating.

Then why play if the company isn't interested in helping players enjoy the game.
Cheaters should be permabanned period.
They give out bans here and there... then people start up a new free account.
This is just what happens with zero barrier to entry. IP bans are bypassed using proxy servers.

Vindictus is the game that invented the kind of combat that Tera has and it is quite good for a run through if you havent.
As for your questions with regard to Tera -- They seem to be shooting for Lancers to be the primary tank but they want Warriors to be a primary tank also but not as good as a lancer. Personally I find Warriors much more interesting than lancers playstylewise. Money isnt as bad as people are thinking but good items can cost a pretty penny... People are trying to sell merely semi-good items on the AH for the equivalent of 4 months of gameplay. Yeah at that point you are much better farming the item yourself rather than buying it. Both equipment and skill are important. A good player with lousy equipment can do things that a lousy player couldnt do with any equipment but a somewhat good player with great equipment can defeat a great player with only somewhat good equipment.
