Even ignoring the first two, Paul Barnett is reason enough to stay away from anything he is connected to. Just check out all the videos of him hyping WAR prior to its release. Then checkout the infamous presentation of Wrath of Heroes where he basically admit that every aspect of WAR apart from PvP scenarios was just a long boring grind and waste of time.
Paul Barnett is the game industry equivalent of a car salesman trying to sell you a '69 Dodge Charger in mint condition, when in reality it is just a huge chunk of corroed metal with a new paint job.
The fact that Richard Garriott isn't involved is hugely suspect considering he basically is the Ultima series. I can't even imagine how he feels about this game being made without him...
You do know that Garriott sold the Ultima license to EA many many moons ago, but in the deal he retained exclusive ownership over the name Lord British. Thats why EA are stuck with using Lady British...lol good grief!
If it was just Mythic involved, I wouldn't be that worried.
But Gods... EA and Bioware, kings of casual. They'll ruin what once was a classic.
Anyone ever been to the Camelot Herald recently? There's no mention of Mythic ANYWHERE on the website for the game MADE BY MYTHIC. Bioware is plastered over everything, advertising their new quests with "moral choices".
I see Bioware and I'm not interested in anything Bioware anymore, they're not the same BW they use to be, like Mythic the orginal team are gone from them .
Was excited at first when I saw the Ultima headline. Then I read the article and threw up in my mouth. Good set up for them though, seems to be the kind of game they can actually handle ....
How about putting more effort into making Warhammer Online into the game that it should have been instead of churning out yet another cash shop with a thinly veiled F2P game tacked over the top of it
So they sat on the property since EA aquired Origin and relinquished Richard Garriott from it and had plenty of time to do something interesting with Ultima and this is what they come up with? Bioware handling it no less?
I find it hard to believe this is even cashing in on name recognition anymore. We've gone almost 15 years without there being anything new in the way of Ultima with the most recent being Ultima Online and it's expansions. There is a whole new wave of gamers who don't even know or care what Ultima.
I can't wait to see how they plan to make money from this. They're not making this out of the goodness of their hearts.
On a side note, boy does it turn my stomach to see Bioware's logo slung over DAoC's and UO's website.
I have to say that buy jus watching the fighter class im not gonna play this game. Why does he look like the hulk? and why is he so shiny? i tried the 14 day free trial of UO and i liekd it, its just not a game i would like to spend 15 euros every month to play. But man at least old UO looks better than this pile of shit.
I simply cannot believe the writer would state "we should all get excited about" this game.
1- the original games had people who actually cared about the game working on it. They of course wanted profit too, but there was some soul behind it! Now it is being developed with one strategy in mind. HOW CAN WE MAKE MONEY BY RELEASING THIS AS F2P
2- It's EA... WTF? How can anyone in their right mind get excited about a game that again, is based off something that had soul, and is being converted to F2P garbage by a souless, greedy company such as EA? And yes I know its Bioware doing it, but again, F2P with EA behind it all.
3- It's EA releasing a F2P... seriously... this is also points 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9.
10- Its not even the original team. Its a "re-imagined" version that has been converted to have millions of microtransactions to enjoy the game.
I know I have only pointed out a couple things, but seriously... MMORPG, William Murphy in particular... you should be ASHAMED to write such trash. Don't hype up something that contains 3 major problems. Paul Barnett, EA and F2P. Have you been hiding in the ground somewhere for 10 years? You couldn't of posted something informative yet held some reservations knowing these exceedingly important problems with the game?
LOL I am done. Just bitchy because of the abundance of hype on mediocre BS now a days.
Ultima 4 was one of my favorites, now I can play it with friends yay. It's not even going to cost $.99 omgz. I'm so gonna download this, whether it's good or not, it's free, so who cares.
As much as I would love to see Ultima come back...I am extremely skeptical about this game.
First off...this is EA. EA is bad, we all know this. I have no doubt that they will somehow screw this up.
Second...Richard Garriott isn't involved in this project, and the man pretty much is Ultima. I think he even asked to be involved on the project but EA shot him down.
Third...EA has tried to bring Ultima back THREE times, and each time the project self-destructed before ever seeing the light of day. Once with UO2, and twice with Ultima X (two separate projects).
So yeah...I am extremely skeptical about this.
Richard Garriot is Ultima, is this the same man that declared a year ago that facebook and mobile gaming were the future? If so maybe its best they parted ways.
It sounds interested, lets wait and see a bit more than 3 bits of concept art before judging, or is that too logical?
"Cant wait to play it on my iPad!" Uh huh. Granted, it IS an old game (least up to 7 could be tablet-able-able).....
Ultima IV? On iPad? Why don't you just go ahead and sh*t in a shoe and give it to a deceased relative for christmas? Because that's what you're doing. PLAY IT ON PC , god

"Just like the Bioware RPGs you know and love"
You mean... the linear, hand holding, scripted RPGs with no actual choice or alignment in them?
Bioware ruined SWTOR. Then they ruined DAoC. Now they have to do Ultima?
Ultima is dead. Long live Ultima.
Three reasons to stay away from this game:
1. EA
2. Bioware/Mythic
3. Paul Barnett.
Even ignoring the first two, Paul Barnett is reason enough to stay away from anything he is connected to. Just check out all the videos of him hyping WAR prior to its release. Not exactly a fan of the character models. I'm not sure what art style that looks like, but is sure as Hell looks nothing like Ultima.
You do know that Garriott sold the Ultima license to EA many many moons ago, but in the deal he retained exclusive ownership over the name Lord British. Thats why EA are stuck with using Lady British...lol good grief!

Sounds like they are merely cashing in on name recognition. And it's not this and it's not that, but not a lot of talk on exactly what it is.
Color me skeptical at the moment.
no thanks on anything from EA. good luck to those who want to play tho -- hope u have some fun.
EA, play4 free, 2 classes, iPad...need I say more? Avoid at all cost.
So they sat on the property since EA aquired Origin and relinquished Richard Garriott from it and had plenty of time to do something interesting with Ultima and this is what they come up with? Bioware handling it no less?

Of all the games I have ever thought were doomed, this is probably the most doomed, or doomiest.
Enter a whole new realm of challenge and adventure.

Paul Barnett, Bioware, Origin... this train wreck should be fun to watch.
Sloshed In Translation : The Life and Times of a Drunken Gamer
wait... this UO remake wont be AAA 3D?...... oh crap
oh well, its a free to play mobile game so imma play UO on my android when this comes out
Have faith will you not?
Ultima 4 was one of my favorites, now I can play it with friends yay. It's not even going to cost $.99 omgz. I'm so gonna download this, whether it's good or not, it's free, so who cares.
will def. check it out.
I'll bet what they are allowing gonna be restricted so much that you either gonna quit or buy stuff from the cash shop..

Bioware and EA working on something again? I am sure it is going to suck ass.
"Cant wait to play it on my iPad!" Uh huh. Granted, it IS an old game (least up to 7 could be tablet-able-able).....

"it’s sounding like something we should all get excited about"
Should ? There "should" only be a limit on hyping.
Then again, touching an Ultima game developed by EA, today's BioWare and directed by Paul Barnett is an exercise in martyrdom and masochism.
