So I got rift, subbed, and got 50.
But now its impossible to do anything! the queues suck for normal dungeons, whatever you sign as (tank/dps is what i was signing as).
You need to do normals, to be able to do experts and then to raid etc. You can get items from invasions, but that takes a very long time to get something decent, and they arent really farmable as they are random.
Currently I am Gaurdian on Bloodiron, which is the most populated Euro server. I'd hate to imagine what the queues are like on other servers.
Sub runs out in a few days I will not be buying a second month.
I am posting this here to warn others. This game is cool, but the server populations and the queues suck. Do not bother subbing if you dislike waiting in a queue for hours to get shit done.

Icewatch is alot more populated than Bloodiron http://www.riftstatus.net/shards/eu
Join a guild? Alot of people dont use the pug finder because they run these with there guilds.
Those that do have a wait time im sure.
Im on shatterbone and wait no more than 15 mins on one of the lowest pop servers as ranger dps.

Rift is a very guild centric game.
Imo its the only game that didn't really need a dungeon finder.
Playing: Nothing
Looking forward to: Nothing
You obviously are not looking very hard. There is almost always a zone invasion going on that you can assist in, and get good XP. Groups are always forming for the daily rift raids. You can Instant adventure with a group of people. PLus a boatload of dailies in Stillmor and Shimmer. Use the guild finder to find active guilds. They are ALWAYS forming dungeon parties.
There are a ton of things to do at 50 in this game, there is no way you can tell me you can't find something to do.
BTW, you can get Inscribed Sourcestones and panarite doing instant adventures and invasions, as well as dailies. Heck if you pop into ember Isle during the boss fight, do one hit, you get 10 Inscribed Sourcestones per invasion. The armor you can buy will get you into experts pretty quick.
to top this off, bloodiron is NOWHERE NEAR the most populated server, not as long as Icewatch, bruttmuter and brisesol are up.
also, queues are damn near instant for tanks so a pretty fail attempt at trolling, atleast in expert mode.

The replies that say "get into a guild, then all your problems will disappear" are really saying "its your fault".
When Trion did the gear revamp not to long ago this is an area that was overlooked: the deadzone that has emerged from when get to level 50 and when you can do expert dungeons.
The problem is that when get the gear to do expert dungeons they have no reason to do the level 50 normal dungeons anymore. This causes the available player pool to shrink dramatically. With very few people in the dungeon finder pool finding a random group do to the level 50 dungeons can take a very long time no matter what role you queue as.
You can get crafted gear or BoEs to boost your gear level but they wont do it alone. Gear from Rifts, Chronicles and Instant Adventures takes far too long to be of any use because of either the frequency in which you can do them or the lack of people to run them with you.
Unfortunately this is a population problem so the solutions will not be easy ones and saying "find a good guild" is even less helpful.
/facepalm
Next time try reading OPs post before making a fool of yourself.
i'd say get your gatherings up on your main. you can make hundreds/thousands of plat pretty easy in a day by just doing gathering. pick up all the artifacts you can and sell those in the AH as well. one day of gathering would get the plat needed to craft up some really nice gear. you'd be more then ready for experts at that point. my wife just started playing again and after 1 hour of playtime she AH what she had found and came up with about 200 plat. she had never been to EI either before, so she wasn't really sure where to go. tempestflower alone is over a plat a piece now. diamonds are nice plat, twilight bloom, etc. easy money to be made in game.
and i agree with what others are saying. jump to a real high pop server.
Faeblight man, join the hordes!
I read join guilds as a solution to a current problem. In any game if you have issues with group queues than an active guild is a remedy to that. I am not a guild person I prefer to go it alone but in most games if I want to completely be active in everything end game, a large guild is a solution.
Finding a guild is not less helpful , guildies are nornally more then willing to run these with you and with mentoring now in effect theres no reason not to . Masive xp towards planar attunement for mentoring these. Wich helps them out also .
Hell come to shatterbone and join the guild im in were just about to start running all these normal high end dungeons were all about to hit 50 . Fixing to start gearing up . Your more than welcome .
For all the good trion has done for rift i think their decision to take the gear threadmill so seriously will kill most new players willingness to play past 50 unless they hae a guild as mentioned to literally carry them thru.
Problem is something that plagued EQ2 for years and WoW pre first xpac.
Gear become so much more powerful that a new 50 can be literally 3 shot and can do rubbish dmg which means useless to anyone .
Like i said old problem but what amazes me is trion has decided to go with the threadmill to a degree both wow and eq2 have done and seen to be counter productive in gaining new players.
To me the gap between a raider and a new level 50 should be about 10-20% which makes it such that raiders continue to raid but new level 50 players are not so overwhelmed to hit the quit button.
Thats my view anyway.
I agree 110%.. I was always surprised that devs chose to use the uber gear carrot so easily.. I actually avoid games now that insist on the gear carrot mechanic.. Soon as I hit max level and the treadmill starts.. I hit "cancel".. I played that style one time in WoW, and will NOT do it again.. Been there, done that and I have the T-shirt....
If every MMO was scored for needing to join a guild, Rift would be a high scorer. Thats just how the total package plays out, not a commentary on fault or blame.
I love this game but... the latency and lag issues are making it hard to continue playing. Having abilities that don't fire off and winding up dead all the time because of huge latency spikes is not a good time in an MMO.
I'm giving em a week to fix it or I'm outtie.
