    i play both, love both,
WoW advantage: you can do big raid and stuff like that, loads of different items
WoW disadvantage: often lag, takes long time to reach lvl 60 (i don't have much time:p)
GW advantage: nice story, nice community, nice balanced (we'll all exept for the ranger:P but hey they suck at almost every game), better travel system
GW Disadvantage: you can't do big raids, and some times when doing a mission you don't know who you're teaming up with while you do need the good team work

that's what i think of these to games;) ::::32::

By definition create is to bring something into existence.  Maybe I'm taking your comment out of context and if I am, I'm sorry.

Anyway, let me give you my two cents on the two games.

I've played just about every MMORPG that has come out since UO.  Some I loved, some I didn't like at all.  WoW was a great game, and I enjoyed playing it for the 30 or so levels that I played it.  Unfortunately the one thing I disliked about it was the same thing that I disliked about every MMORPG I've ever played besides UO.  It takes WAY too long to get into the meat and potatoes of the game.  I believe I played WoW for about 100 hours to get to where I actually got.  After a while I just got bored of repeatedly killing the same guys over and over to gain a level.  They had quests but much like Guild Wars and EQ2 the quests were mostly run here, kill that, come back and get a reward.

I'll agree with almost anyone here that says that WoW does a great job doing what an MMORPG is supposed to do.  It hooks a person and gets them to spend massive amounts of time in front of the computer all so the company still gets their monthly fee at the beginning of the month.

Well, after I spent 7 months in Iraq I was faced with the decision of picking up EQ2 or WoW where I left off or buying a new game and getting a fresh start.  Obviously I picked up Guild Wars and I have been playing it ever since.  So far I've logged about 200 hours into it, and my character is still not complete.  Obviously it's easy to do it way quicker then that if all you want to do is build up your character, but I've done easily over 100 GvGs and even more random team arenas.  And to be honest, I don't see myself quitting in the near future.

I watched my buddies play WoW the other night while I was at their house.  Everytime I stopped in to see how they were doing they were running somewhere.  I asked them where they were running, they said "To town to complete a quest." or "To [name of area] to complete a quest or kill bad guys."  If that's what you are into, by all means buy WoW, you won't enjoy GW.  I can log into GW, and within five minutes be in any area in the game.  Within less than a minute I can join a random arena PvP game.  Within about 10 minutes I can be knee deep in a GvG match.  I can log in at any time and play for one hour and feel that I've accomplished something.  That's just something you can't do in WoW (at least to the point I played).

Now that being said there are things in WoW that absolutely trump GW.  PvE in GW is definitely subpar to WoW.  The bosses are easy, the content doesn't extend much beyond the linear story line, and for the most part the entire thing can be defeated with henchmen.  If you want to kill NPCs, play WoW.  If you want to hunt for the super items that will make you a mega superstar, play WoW.  If you want to build up a treasure that makes other people green with envy, play WoW.

To me it's a pretty simple decision between the two.  You have to look at how much time you are willing to invest at each sitting, and what you really hope to accomplish in the game.  Personally I choose GvG based on the fact that I never have to run anywhere, and PvP is widespread but also rewards the skillful.

Also, to the person that said that most of the higher ranked team use henchmen.  You are out of your mind.  I don't know what high ranked teams you played but they were screwing around if they were using henchmen because it gives you a BIG disadvantage.

Anyway, that's my opinion on the whole WoW vs. GW.  Personally I don't think there should be any debate.  The games are completely different and the people that come in here and say stuff like "WoW beats GW" are just trying to troll and are comparable to the old Nintendo vs. Sega fanboys without any real substance to their argument.

So true, SO TRUE! GW does that, you feel you did something right, THAT'S WHAT I MISSED! WOW is fun, but its also HUGE, the damn monthly fee is annoying. But WOW, no MATTER how much you do it, no matter how much you play, no matter what item you have, no matter what, you're always  going to going to have to do more, more and more and more. You can spend your entire life but Blizzard will just keep adding and adding and making you look like a noob compared to people who play it for the rest of their damn lives. GW actually lets you feel you did something right, for instance, you spend just one hour and you beat the Hall of Heroes, YES! YOU DID IT! YOU DID IT! And the random winner of the Guild thing (i cnat' remember the name at the time) is....YOU! OH GOD! THAT'S AN EASY 65k!!!! See? In Wow, to get a chicken (or something like that), you gotta spend a long time dancing infront of a chicken, and thne when it tlaks (you're going to have to be there) you gotta buy it food and feed it and there you go. Atleast GW makes you feel like you do something right, WOW is fun, yes, I admit it, IT KICKS GW IN THE ASS, but nobody will ever beat it. By the time you are 20, Blizzard will have WOW so huge that it will take over 1000 hours to finish, or I guess it already does...

Havnt Played WoW yet, so I will just comment on GW. I think GW has acomplished something new in the sense that you can play casually and actually get something done. I'm a long time "hardcore gamer" from UO/AC/DaOC/EQ etc etc.. and in a lot of ways I feel I get the same interaction I crave from an MMO without the massive time sink involved with level grinding. It certainly does not have the depth of an ongoing MMO, but it does have, fast paced, fun gameplay, pvp, balanced classes, and most importantly, simplicity.

GW may not be entirely "new" in regards to features, but it combines the best of MMO and RPG's into one, adds multiplay and a focus on PvP. It's a well done game, and I would reccomend any dedicated gamer to at least try it. You may only play a few months, but even then it will serve as an excellent "in-between" game to go to when you need a break from your current MMO.

Both = MMOG only WoW have RPG base. Guildwars is a coop MMO with minimal RPG base.

WoW = game for gamers who spend up to 50 hrs ++ per week and login time is expected longer. Fees enforced for server purpose. Its more like buying a webhost and host your website.

GW = the reason why it have no fees is due to studies about gameplay habits, GW were meant for non-hardcore gamers that spend appox. 20+ hrs of gameplaying time per week. So they expect a moderate logins per session.

Some said lag in GW have been there since the first release. I myself from Malaysia who played AO, WoW, EVE and GW and found out that my lag only starts to happen in GW at peak times for EURO ( i have a uk version of GW ) But i fac no lag in other 3 games i listed above. This means GW is having a moderate server capacity for gamers unlike WoW, take a look at how many shards they have.. its neverending expanding.

just my 2cent.. feel free to correct me ::::20::

got to agree with Zetnet, i mean, eitherways read the other, passed gw vs wow posts, there are enough of them, or go to IGN and read the review, it gives a better idea of the game anyway, opinions are useless, as the title says "VS", meaning, wow-fanboys vs gw-fanboys ... who to trust?! (for them who don't know, the awnser is none of them, just in case)

another thing for Swiftan, has it ever came to you that you are from Malasya, buying a UK version? you lag because you using a completely wrong version, it's quite obvious you lag with a UK version, you are being logged on to European districts automatically, if you only got yourself a Malasian version of the game, you wouldn't expierence lag, and don't try to react with the L2 example and so on, since i'm convinced that those games use general server, with international purposes, GW uses a district system.

I have a tree, a tree that's in my garde, but my garden's too small for the tree, so the tree is in my house, that means i don't have a house .... who am i anyway?

if you think PvP in WoW is better than GW, then you are a Wow fanboy.

if you think PvE in GW is better than WoW, then you are a GW fanboy.

simple as that. if you want lots of PvE content, and not competitive action, go for WoW. if you want intense competitive action, but dont care much about character development, then go for GW.

    agree 100%

GW is more fun (if ur a pvper) and the reason to this is because, well... its just better lol

Guild Wars is by faaar the best game I've ever played...and I played games like WoW, Horizons and much more...I mean it's a work of art: graphics, gameplay, sound etc.
I don't even want to compare it to that cartoonish graphic on WoW...Eh, anyway, you get the point...best money spent in my life ::::35::

Im sorry but you cannot really compare this both games. WoW and GW stand both at a diffrent threshold and are therefore incomparable. If you want to compare WoW compare it to other MMORPGs out there like EQ1 and 2 or City of Heroes or FF Online.

WoW as a MMORPG is a great game. You only need to look at what the critics are saying to undersatnd this rather quickly. It has been heralded as an amazing MMORPG and with great reason. Its gimmick the Alliance VS Horde PvP situation gives it a lot of surprise factors as evidenced by many of the player notes you might read in WoW based forums or even in the WoW Offcial Strategy Guide. The only thing that kill WoW is perhaps its developers and their lack to hear their player base. But I recently heard the devs are working on this (about time too Shamans where simply to pwning).

GW is another great game but GW is perhaps the type of game that breaks a trend BECAUSE IT IS NOT AN MMORPG the more people who realize this the better. Also for a game WITH A COMPLETE LACK OF MONTHLY FEES TO PAY FOR SERVER AND A LOT OF OTHER THINGS this game is incredibly good. I must emphasize those things because very few people understand what it takes to maintain games of this type since they are indeed brainless. But the faster they get that point across their dull witted minds the better. Also GW IS THE FIRST CHAPTER with other expansion chapters on the works. But basing from the first chapter this game is headed in a good direction. Ive played this game for 55 days and a total of 219 hours and 31 minutes and I'm still playing it avidly. This game is made not for the people who like to stay playing dead hours a game but rather people like me who like to enjoy a game two to four hours and then take a break and do other more important daily tasks. Therefore I haven't rushed through the game as I have engaged in diffrent activities while I play. Sometimes I farm, sometimes I quest, Sometimes I complete Missions, sometimes I go back to help other people with quests or missions, sometimes I explore by myself or with friends, sometimes I PvP only, sometimes I PvP from PvE in arenas, sometimes I sit back and chat with guildies or friends or people, sometimes I sell stuff. This has given me quite a range of things to do. People who argue this game gets boring fast I will say to them are not all games then like this? In WoW I also do the same things over and over, the same goes for GTA and its one of the best PS games out there, so that argument can be readily dropped. However what most people may argue and that may have some validity is lack of communtiy due to maps being instanced, hwoever if you are having a lack of community you must either not be on a Guild or be in a very very very whack Guild (most Guilds are quite good even new ones) also there are various of GW Fansites which are supproted by the official GW Site and this helps to develope a great community for example:

Guild Wars Guru is great place taken from the fact that it has

If that is a "lack" of community then I have no idea what a community is. Granted it won't be perhaps like the WoW communtiy but the community is there.

Hell... look at that I ended up reviewing this game... In short GW is a great game in its own right but it isn't comparable to WoW or vice versa. image

EDIT: Someone mentioned PvE in GW is worthless Id have to say I totally disagree. I am a person who PvP's more then I PvE. I spend more of my hours in Arena and Tombs. However I thouroughly enjoy PvE and yes Ive played MMORPGs but the reason I like the GW PvE is because it is sort of a way to not only unlock skills and powers and greater artifacts for PvP but because it is the cooperative side of the game. I love the instancing in this game. What people who play PvE SHOULD NOT DO IS PLAY THIS GAME LIKE AN ACTUAL MMORPG AND RUSH THROUGH IT. Someone else mentioned getting at a cap level so quick seemed like child's play, this GAME IS BUILT to cap level quickly but your level means squat when it comes to skill which is what this game IS REALLY about. You can have level 20 and still get owned in the instanced maps or in PvP if you lack skills and/or good teamates. This game focuses on coordination and cooperation. The sooner you realize that the better. I was one who took a while to realize this, I used to solo all the time: THAT IS A NONO, now that I did I always go with player groups and only use henchies when I'm in a hurry or need to grab a skill by myself. Not only have I done great friends like this. but the game suddenly becomes super enjoyable, specially when you see the interaction of teammates. I have also in my time met only a few moronic people (two to be exact they are in my ignore list) and most people are rather cool to talk with.
