im staying away from funcom bad company, i will agree that after playing Tera for about 3 months it does seem dull but if we're talking combat like the title would suggest rather than what you labeled the poll under...i would have to say tera's combat system really does beat out any tab target combat systems, its alot more engaging...the sad thing is Tera's mechanics are buggy as hell.
I not only prefer TSW as a game overall, I like the combat better than TERA as well.
There is no differentiation in TERA. A warrior is a warrior, a lancer is a lancer. They all have the same moves, same weapons, same outfits etc... Glyphs help shift the focus of the class, but really don't do much to the overall playstyle of the class. Warriors still avoid dmg, lancers still soak dmg etc...
TSW.. Even if two people have the same weapons equipped it is possible for them to have completely different playstyles and use completely different skills.
There is no comparison IMO. TSW blows TERA out of the water, and most other games currently offered for that matter.
And still TSW combat is not fun...........
Just because TSW has more skills to choose from, that doesn't mean it is fun.
The combat dynamic is totally different between the 2 games.
Tera requires lots of reflexes and the right combat move at the right time.
TSW combat is just the usual autoattack, button spam fest
You have dungeons for 5 man and lair bosses for 10 man in TSW.
I know, but that's my point.
Dungeons and group content is not fun in TSW due to its dull combat.
Tera on the other hand, with its fun combat make dungeons and group an enjoyable experience.
What I am saying is that once TSW story runs out, players will be left with group content which due to the arcaic combat will put lots of people off the game, while Tera don't have any "make up" on (storyline) to cover the game weakness.
I find AoC a far better game than TSW.
TSW story + AOC combat = great MMO
Unfortunately as it is TSW has a very short life span.
But that's a matter of personall opinion Ste. We don't know what the majority of the playerbase thinks about it. Do they like it, not like it, or even just like it enough to not be so bad? I'm not going to go question all players.
While i like TERA's combat more and would prefer a an improvement to TSW's gameplay, i don't find it that bad.
Also, you can't simply say the game as a short life span. Again, everyone was sayin Rift was going F2P in a few montha and it's doing well, probably because of updates. Funcom just announced their "Issues" update plan. Even with the combat as it is, TSW can perfectly last if FC keeps taking care of it. Or maybe not, i don't see the future.
Honestly, what both TERA and TSW need is to not keep farming endgame group content, but new stuff. That, IMHO, is far more important

Fun is subjective. I have a lot of fun w/ combat in TSW.
I had quite a bit of fun with combat in TERA as well. However, I think you overestimate the lack of button spam fest. There's just as much button mashing and scripted movement in TERA as in any other MMO. Get through your first BAM or two and after that the fights get extremely repetative. Same with regular mobs. If you think the replacement of a tab target selector with a reticle is the greatest thing since sliced bread, all the more power to ya, but that little gem lost it's sparkle with me after about a week.
These poll results are obviously not about combat and all about the popularity of the games. The fact is and it is an undisputable fact, that Tera combat is an innovative step in the direction that all MMOs should be if not already considering in the future. Am I a fan of the game? Absolutely not. Sorry fans but its another asian based graphics heavy game with extremely sub par content. BUT sorry even the biggest of haters can't fault the combat..they nailed the combat aspect of the game. It truly feels like you have some control over it and the animations are really nice as well.
TSW...decent game, combat system like everything else I've seen.
I guess the best way to put it is that Teras combat is better on paper, but TSWs combat is more fun do to the influence of other mechanics influencing it such as builds, synergiest, etc.
The main issue for me with Tera's combat was that all its "action combat" is made irrelevent by that fact that other than BAM's and Dungeon bosses, the mobs are ridiculously easy. 99% of the quest content has you killing mobs that die in a few skills and who's damage on your health is barely a sliver. This lack of threat and difficulty doesnt allow the full potential of Tera's combat to shine. Whereas in TSW all the mobs are arguably more difficult in terms of attack speed and damage as well as their health relative to yours.
So I would say that overall I had more fun with combat in TSW with exception given to BAM's and Dungeon bosses in Tera. However, the 2 TSW final dungeon bosses I faced in beta were also challenging and interesting in their own way.
Both games are shit, but to be honest, TSW has the better overall package.
TERA is a great effort, but like someone earlier posted, it's like eating candy all the time. When you don't moderate the amount of fun you give to players in a game and just give it all at once, it becomes stale within the first play session. New games seem to forget that pacing is key to getting players to return to your game.
This is why 'the grind' was created in the first place. We all bitch and moan about grinding (and it's true that there is such thing as too much), but without it, we would have our fun and leave the game in a week.
TSW by far... combat to me isn't all about looks, the setup and "behind the scenes" stuff to me is a million times more interesting in TSW than TERA which to make makes combat in TSW that much better...
I angered the clerk in a clothing shop today. She asked me what size I was and I said actual, because I am not to scale. I like vending machines 'cause snacks are better when they fall. If I buy a candy bar at a store, oftentimes, I will drop it... so that it achieves its maximum flavor potential. --Mitch Hedberg
Tera's combat was ok, until you got to level 2. Then you realised you where going to be doing exactly the same mechanic for the next 59 levels.
Result - the most boring combat levelling experience i have ever had in an mmo, and I've played a few Asian grinders. It is no wonder that this game saw massive player drop offs after launch in asia then over here.
The only thing in the EU version that matched the truly terrible combat progression was the awful attitude of the playerbase. Anything must be better than playing this game in the EU. Hell, I'd even give ffxiv another shot before suffering a return to the misery of Tera eu.
i would rather be playing TSW dark setting and LORE on a game that has TERAs graphics or similar anime-ish visuals. Both combat in TSW and TERA sux on my personal list, so combat wise ill have something different, more polish, less limited / locked, and of course better animated.
All else excluded i think teras combat is much more entertaining...i mean lets be honest here tera is a combat system with a game built around it, nothing more.
I like TSW's combat more in TSW however. Its more fitting for an epic pve game.
I much prefer the resource building and spending over a mana or stmina bar, i like how every attack can be done on the move in TSW, not the case in Tera.
Oh and for the record, i found Teras stiff combat animations to be lacking, since after TSW's release combat animations have suddenly become the main focus of mmorpg games /eyeroll
No yeah i can really see the combat in mmorpgs become more important as most mmorpgs ditch whatever RPG aspects are left in the industry...untill they become complete mmo-action games lacking of any progression thought requirement or player involvement in their character build and capabilites (after all it HAS to be balanced for 1vs1 pvp right?)...but this trend is what makes TSW so uinique i guess.
Why do we need to have a fight between the 2 games? I like TERA's conbat more. I like TSW more overall. I like both game however, as well as GW2.
This thread is going to cause unncessary amounts of flames.
The point isn't to start flames, the point is that combat doesn't make the game.
Yet combat is the sole reason many people are avoiding TSW.
Trolly thread is trolly. How do you expect a fair poll aimed at TSW fans, placed in the TSW forums, and using an easy target like TERA? You had zero inclination to prove anything, beyond pushing your personal propoganda.

no doubt TSW. TERA only good thing is the combat (of some classes) and the graphics of world (bad that mobs are terrible, IMO dont make any sense most of mobs on Tera world, they just dont fit).
Tera is basically a WoW game with good combat and better graphics the rest is in fact much worse compared with WoW.
If the question is which game I like between TERA and TSW, i say both.
But if the real questions is to which game I would give 15 $/ month, i say neither.
Because there are already many free games out there. Some with great story and quests (like LOTRO), some with great action-style combat (like Star Trek Online). So the competition is tough, and if a company wants my money, they should give me BOTH great story and great combat.
I don't understand how a company can spend 100 million dollars (or more) for a game, but still forgeting vital components for it's success. Do they really believe players can be blinded by a marketing campaign, when the MMO market is so crowded?
If they count on players blindness to take our money, then they are themselves blind to the reality, and they deserves to go bankrupt.
The problem with TSW is that if you haven't played far enough into the game in order to acquire yourself a few different builds, weapons, and to flesh out the ability wheel - then yes you will come to the conclusion that the combat is tedious,/monotonous/frustrating/whatever.
If, however, you have gotten past the learning curve, you will find one of the best, if not the best, ability & combat system in the genre.
This is, of course, simply my opinion from having played TSW from CB through to now.
Dungeons are way cooler in TSW I was surprised how dull the dungeons in Tera were. They lacked inspiration. So even after the story runs out we still have more entertaining dungeons. Plus people group to do quests all the time it's a lot of fun. Some are hard enough to need it actually!

This is what I found. When I was playing early with Blade/Blood. I wasn't doing much but 1,2,1,2,1,2.
Later in the game with AR/Blood I was using all 7 abilities almost every battle. Plus circle strafe kiting.
No duh combat doesn't make an MMO. If it did then nobody would play them. We would all be playing console games instead. Which is why I just don't get these new single player rpg / MMO hybrid games.... why not just go play dragons dogma, monster hunter, skyrim, or the witcher, etc. I don't want story and cut-scenes in my MMO. I want to, ya know, actually play the game myself.

I would imagine most people do play all those games you mentioned. I know I did.
IMHO, for combat fun factor perspective TERA's combat is better. For combat mechanics perspective TSW's combat is deeper.I play both games now and the combat is very good in both games for a different reason.

exactly
