DayZ has huge population growth!

this actually happened yesterday, but the mod DayZ for Arma 2 hit 500k people. grats to them. what i thought was interesting was one month ago they only had 100,000 people. gaining 400,000 people in a month from word of mouth is pretty impressiveto say the least. hell, they've gained 25,000 people since yesterday so far. i know it's just in alpha and still full of bugs, but i have to say.. this was the best 30$ i've ever spent on a game. the actual game Atma 2 is pretty decent as well.

post is on Massively here: http://massively.joystiq.com/2012/07/12/dayz-shooter-mod-reaches-500k-users/

and the front page of the dayZ website updates how many registered users. http://dayzmod.com/

At least not in a MMO where gear progression is the end all be all

Good for Rocket. I hope he gets some monetary compensation for pushing so many copies

i like themeparks as well, but this game is just too good to ignore. perma death zombie survival game where you actually have to eat/drink to survive? that's just win. i know there's a ton of other stuff, but that's what does it for me. 35 min average lifetime for a charecter is just awsome. lol

if you watch the vids of Rocket, i really wonder if his own opinion of money wont be his downfall. "kickstarters are for pussies" lol. he has the idea down and isn't a sell out, but that doesn't mean he doesn't need some good financial backing to make his game the way he wants. if he doesn't make it soon, someone else better. this could be a lot better then it is with a bit of cash and a solid dev team.

I love sandbox games because they leave the player with so many opportunities to do inside the game they normally couldn't in a theme-park only game.

    Thanks for the tip

My thoughts exactly. Used to love theme parks but now growing really tired of them. DayZ just opened up a whole new world of opportunities.

Grim Dawn, the next great action rpg!

It's a great concept and mod and I know it's in alpha, but if they want to keep their numbers growing they better fix 1.7.2 soon. The new zombies have ridiculous sight and will start chasing you from 100s of meters away, add that to people shooting at you trying to take your soda and with no way to defend yourself and this game will find a lot of people going away, specially beginners, I for one am thinking of sitting this patch out until it's fixed.

Remember... all I'm offering is the truth. Nothing more.

I'm sorry but actual figure is more like 150k(125k have played in last 24h) than 500k. 500k has TRIED the mod. Still nice figure for alpha mod althou ARMA2 has sold over 2 million copies so that would mean only 25% of owners have tried free mod.

From where do you have the info that 2 millions Arma 2 copies were sold ?

The good thing is that Arma 2 is so flexible, there is so much more content avialable with the Arma 2 core game besides Dayz that I have no problem with longevity. I mean after 2-3 month I need a break from every game and  bit more diversion. The good thing is, you can come always back and in the meanwhile the game gets improved.

Great mod just a few gripes... install process was downright frustrating.  the server consistancy is horrible some i have a great smooth fast connection and other feel like i am on dial up.  The last is the ffa pvp it really feels like the mod has become a DM with zombies added. Not sure what there is to fix that last one but if they could get people to play together at least as much as you see them killing each other that would be good.

Wanted to add to this. I have yet to see a player who doesn't attack me right out. Infact the last player i saw Ran through a field of zombies to attack me despite having said zombie's chasing him and attacking him. So when the player is less concerned with getting killed by the zombie's and more concerned with killing another player it feels more DM to me then anything.

Said person is dumb. You also can not base the whole game on one little person with one little experience.

Again. The guy was dumb. :)
