Still not as smooth as Id like for what I am seeing on screen - E8400, 4GB DDR2 & 6870HD 1GB.
It's fine when out in the wild but when i come across an event my FPS tank down to single figures. An hour later I logged in to WoW:cata Beta which really showed how laggy GW2 was incomparison (WoW for me runs at 50-60FPS in all situations at max settings 1080p). Just bringing that up as a comparision to playability and nothing else.
From the GW2 visuals I struggle to see why it's so demanding? Still I have an i5, new motheboard and 8GB 1600DDR3 Ram arriving on Monday (not upgraded my CPURAMMB in 3 years) shame I have to wait till Aug 28th to see if it makes a difference.
I'm not in Beta but plan on playing this game sometime. I am curious if eventually the reason for the issues some people are having can be pinpointed. I know there a plethora of reasons why someone can have issues but it assuming people are being honest, why some players wuth good gaming rigs with up to date drivers are having issues is curious when others with lesser systems are not.
This is a shitty BETA experience, this is a shitty experience in general. I was planning to buy this game but it looks like the client got some big issues.
I'm getting 10 fps, extremely slow responsiveness and my GPU is stuck at 99% usage while "playing".

Should be decent enough.
i5 - 8GB - AMD 6870 - w7
I play all other games just fine.
Weird thing with the GPU is usually when it has constant high activity it should heat up and the fan should kick in. But I'm not experiencing any of this. Fan stays steady at 40% and no heating. So I'm not sure if I should trust what it says.

One thing that alot of people overlook, (not saying that you are one of them) is that Windows updates on Win 7 will take the highest priority for network traffic. If you have updates downloaded and waiting to install, it can still cripple any system.
Sorry that you are having troubles

I feel sorry to. Thought I'll have a nice WE of GW beta testing, and I probably already did my job :-)
I tested, I concluded and I reported on the forum. To bad I can't do more.
In fact my whole computer lags while the game is running, I'm dual screening and on I'm typing this message on my second monitor. And everything lags here as well: right click, dragging, clicking, start menu etc.
I think I never experienced this.
I already tried lowering all settings, even resolution. I removed drivers, rebooted, reïnstalled drivers. No change. I hope they sort this out.

This utility can check GPU loading. I find it very useful in identifying CPU / GPU balancing issues.
If set to force sync with monitor refresh, GPU won't load-up (err run heavily) because it sleeps waiting for sync. Games can usually be set to ignore vsync as well as the driver control panel. Forcing it off can improve FPS but may produce tearing artifacts if the camera or objects in game are moving very quickly.
Also, D3D and drivers running in a multithreaded environment configured by the game have enforcement checks that prevent multiple threads from overlapping GPU calls that would bug out rendering. In DX9 this system isn't very efficient because of how locking is handled. It can bottleneck rendering on some systems that would otherwise run faster. This isn't something that's user avoidable (that I know of), it's built into the engine. In DX10 and 11 this isn't as much of a problem because they are optimized for multithreading since multicores are now the norm.

I had a friend that had issues with his system because of where he had the installer running from. I told him to move the entire GW2 folder into a folder named GW2 on the root of the drive. It solved his problem. (his problem seemed to have been caused by folder permissions in Windows 7)
AMD Eyefinity Technology is not officially supported at this time, and players using systems with Eyefinity enabled may encounter problems.
If you experience issues while using Eyefinity, it is recommended that you disable the feature in the AMD Catalyst Control Center or AMD VISION Engine Control Center.

The dual screening could possibly affect performance. I read about this happening, but don't recall the details. I think it was something about the way Windows virtualizes desktop over multiple monitors.
You might want to pass this along to ArenaNet as an issue. It's probably not something they've put a lot of time into.

bleh sorry u guys are having such issues =( ive experience a huge performance boost on my i7 920 gtx 570 system. it was too bad in BWE2 either, but better now.
Some of the perfomance issues people are experiencing are a joke, and could probably be solved with a little initiative and testing of settings. But nope, It must be ANet's fault, and they should fix it.
I'm sure there are people having valid problems, and thats what the bug report and forums are for.
The only Issue I have had so far was during the first BWE where I was running GW2 from the desktop, rather than the root drive (as someone else has already mentioned.) and experienced slow gameplay.

just so you guys know, they posted in the official foums that if you are running SLI, or eyefinity the game will run like crap because it is not optimized for it. try only running with one card and you will see a big difference. I can run this game on a core2quad 2.8 with 8GB of DDR3 and a GTX460 with zero lag. also they mentioned something about disabling reflections or something because there seems to be an issue with it. below is a snippet from the forums:
"Hardware Compatibility
On older or lower-end machines, it is recommended that you try disabling reflections and shadows to improve frame rate.
Forcing anti-aliasing through AMD Catalyst™ Control Center or AMD VISION™ Engine Control Center typically results in a black screen when playing.
Windows TDR (Timeout Detection and Recovery) will sometimes restart a user’s graphics drivers if they become unresponsive, resulting in a notification that the graphics driver has been restarted.
Currently, adjusting the core clock speed of the GPU or CPU typically results in lower performance.
It is advised that you leave core clock speeds at factory defaults.
AMD CrossFire™ and NVIDIA® SLI™ are not currently supported.
These features should be disabled while running the game.
Enabling NVIDIA 3D VISION® may cause a crash on some systems.
If you experience a crash while this setting is enabled, it is recommended that you disable it in the NVIDIA Control Panel.
Objects in the game world may momentarily render incorrectly or “pop” in and out.
This is a temporary side effect of our ongoing optimization, and should be corrected by moving the in-game camera.
Runnning smoothly for me as in previous 2 BWE's but did have 3 dc's that required me to reboot pc afterwards because it was stuck on reconnect and my machine not responding to anything after going into task manager to try and manually close it.
And haven't been able to get into WvW all night, queues on all maps and never popped (did re-queue few times to try different map). So that's a 4 hrs. queue.

what?!?!?! They don't have an in-game command? EPIC FAIL Anet! If the rest of the game wasn't so good I'd be playing TSW right now!!!
/end sarcasm
thanks for the FYI

Optimization seems better than it has ever been, but it still has a long way to go.
Previous beta events were a slideshow in big groups and now it is smooth as silk.. Yay!

Running very smooth here..
Unbelievably well in fact with over 50 players in the same area..
Playing GW2..
running like crap for me, but I expected as much with my ancient system.
Performance aside, the game rocks and I am having a blast!

The game running at medium settings but all are great....
The graffics looks like are high + i have no lag, no fps.
This is my first beta and all running better than every previous game that i played...
I am not saying big words, maybe its optimized for my setup!

my sytem seems to be lower than your or equal. Try reducing shadows or something like this.
It setups by its own for me but maybe for you it has wrong settings.
