    Not at all thus.

Seems to be flavour of the month for fans to claim a "paradigm shift". We had quite a number of those threads about GW2 and DayZ.

I recall an old RTS game having some sort of impact on the genre some time ago. What was it again? Oh yeah, Warcraft 3. I remember it's mmorpg counterpart faring quite well, but who knows though.

Sorry, Cecropia, I removed that line from my post because it was a stupid comment, I should have thought more before writing it. I reckon I edited my post while you commented on it.

I maintain this List of Sandbox MMORPGs. Please post or send PM for corrections and suggestions.

It proves good IP makes good mmorpg?  Like Matrix Online, Buffy the vampire slayer online, Twilight online, SWTOR, AOC, Game of Throne online?

I'm not sure how IP and brand loyalty have to do with the discussion.

No worries, I`ve done the same thing more than I would like to admit :)

It proves that a game from one genre can have a serious impact on entirely different genre image

I remember one of the selling points for WOW long before it released. It was the concept of living in the ``world`` of the Warcraft games. I found this appealing enough to finally enter my first mmorpg.

If WoW, SWTOR, TSW, LotRO, and Rift are MMOs

Then this is a massively massively MASSIVELY multiplayer online game compared to them.

It already has, look up the new zombie MMO.

You're not seriously calling an announcement from a relatively unknown company with a lot of promises, an impact on the MMO industry as a whole are you? If you are then my comment is pretty much aimed at people like yourself

One game does not make a trend. Changing to F2P is a shifting paradigm. This is .. a successful mod. Will they have as many players charging $40 + a sub? I doubt it. Will they be as successful with a cash shop? May be.

Personally, i don't play an empty game with griefing ... but others may disagree.

In my opinion the start of the change start with Day Z.
