So... it doesn't surprise me that the immersive setting of GW2, with all the life bustling about and attention to detail that ArenaNet have put into the game, Role Players are attracted to the game.
What DID surprise me however, is finding role players in the taverns of Divinity's Reach! Someone named 'Nat' had assumed the role of the bartender in one of the taverns where I stayed for a good hour and a half role playing with a random Norn 'clan leader' that I met.
For people who know they have limited time to experience the world, it was really interesting to see as much RP as I did over the weekend and it fills me with hope because not since LOTR landroval rp server or SWG have I seen so much RP simply 'spring up'.
Even in the very atmospheric TSW, I've only had one quality RP play session.
The future is looking bright for RPers in GW2
I really hope in the future ArenaNet adds stuff like /mood to change character facial expressions (already happen briefly during some /emote commands) and of course more /emotes and allow players to take seats at tables... maybe introduce some 'round the table multiplayer mini-games'

The game just feels conducive to RP. I've never even really RPed in other games, but I find myself speaking as my character to other players I come across in the world as we naturally meet up and work together to complete DEs in the more secluded areas. And I'd say I've gotten an in-character reply over 85% of the time, even if nothing more than a simple, "Well met, friend. You have my thanks."
Every zone just has an atomospher and personality that makes it feel like it's alive = conducive to RP.
I found this happening as well.
I don't usually RP at all, but I even found myself dipping my toe in last weekend - I was defending a camp against centaurs, when a dying centaur shouted "More will come!", suddenly I found myself writing to /say "More? Bring them on, this is my camp!". And actually got some RP backup from a fellow player there. =P
Definitely looking forward to more.
Only problem with RP are some really silly names some people are using
Block the trolls, don't answer them, so we can remove the garbage from these forums
Haha! That's pretty awesome coming from someone who doesn't RP and the fact that someone else just rallied with you - I love that stuff. It happened a lot in LOTRO too. Good stuff
BOYCOTTING EA / ORIGIN going forward.
Hey, kids! Nine out of ten role-players agree, "Doth game is for thee!"
*Yawn*
That Guild Wars 2 login screen knocked up my wife. Must be the second coming!
I was playing and died and along came someone to revive me. I thanked them and got something so much better than the usual "np"...they responded something to the effect of, "Don't thank me I am a nurse" and then went on helping others in the battlefield...It made my day that RP was just happening in the environment.
I was roleplaying my little heart out to protect that farm from burning to the ground and keeping mah lil cows nice and fed
YOU BANDITS KEEP AWAY FROM MAH BABIES!!
You guys must have been lucky or on a different server... I spoke to almost everyone I saw, for an entire day and only ONE person ever replied in local, and they said hey.
Tarnished coast for US and Piken square for EU are the designated unofficial RP servers, I did see quite a bit of people RPing around the cities on Piken square.
I played BW3 on Tarnished Coast (which appears to be the unofficial RP server) and I won't say I saw TONS of RP but it was definitely around.
RPers seem to be aware that it is the unofficial RP server so you will probably want to roll there if you want to see more RP than usual.
