I have played WoW 3 times in my life, each time I have gotten bored of the game and quit within 3-4 months, then again the first time I quit I was frustrated because I was stuck and kept dying in an area at level 37 with no group and the other 2 times were on private servers who did not exactly offer the full wow experience.
Now Im thinking about playing it again when I get a gaming computer at christmas, only have a small netbook right now, can't play games on it.
Would it be worth playing again ? I don't like guild wars 2 because the lore isn't so great and there is no factions, being part of a faction is important to me, feeling that sense of purpose and having an enemy faction. There is also no world pvp, I love world pvp, all you have is that realm vs realm vs realm crap, if I want big huge battles I can get that in Planet Side 2, GW2 is not for me.
So should I play it again? I just hope I won't get bored of the game in 3-4 months again, I guess I will only know for sure if I play it again. Im thinking of a RP-PVP server, what realm has the best world pvp? I would probably wanna join a high pop realm where horde and alliance are almost equal in numbers.

WoW right now is in a slump, no new content is out, everyone is maxed both in pve and pvp gear, raids are getting nerfed every 2 weeks so everyone can do it. Right now there is no real reason to play it.

Remember the good old days when devs made games just for the sake of making a great game?
They are forever gone now all they care is about how much they can earn from them, if they can't make millions they won't make that game.
REMEMBER THE OLD DAYS AND REGRET THEY HAVE PASSED.
I'll make this simple. I'm slightly tired of people asking the forums to make their mind up for them. Play the free trial first 20 levels first. If you like it, play it. : )
Like the posted above me said, The game right now is not that great. I would suggest waiting a couple of months until MoP hits and starting fresh with everyone else. Right now most of the guilds that could have cleared all the content and are on maintenance mode, logging scarcely. And the ones that havnt cleared the content have either given up, or are about to.
At this point in time, going back to wow is not exactly the best idea seeing as a lot of people are trying to stop logging on to wow as to not get burned.
My advice, try something else. There are a lot of games out right now that offer some good entertainment and come back once MoP hits if you really want WoW to be your game of choice.
At least with a sub game they know that people won't tolerate bullshit and leave. With anet we have no recourse but to buy our own lube so our assholes don't get too stretched out from getting bent over a table at Anets will. - Hrimnir
Btw, If you want World pvp this game is probably not for you, at least not in its current condition. The devs have said that they are trying to regain the vanilla pvp days in MoP so I would advice you to wait.

Do what im gonna do, go back to visit WoW when the pre-expansion event begins when everythings exciting. Then decide weather you wish to stay for the expansion.
if you ever didnt get past 37 i suggest you go back roll new toon and adventure yourself up to maximum, it is worth it if you have never experience it before.
There is nothing I can say that everyone else hasn't. I recently logged back in (after being away from it for about 5 or 6 months) using a scroll of resurrection a friend sent me. It was nice to log in and goof off, got an automatic 80 level for a new character, etc.. but it wasn't enough to make me re-sub yet. When you get your new computer, have a friend send you a scroll of res and see if you want to give it a try.
I tried going back once. I started a new toon and wanted to experiance all the new content they introduced with Cata. The problem was that they had dumbed down the game so much and made everything so easy, that I just got bored wat too quickly.

Currently I don't think so. But I'll probably give it another chance once Mists of Pandaria is out. Ever since before the game was even released I've wanted to play a Pandaren.
Probably not much happening until MoP releases. From my last pass through the game, the only things left to do are run randoms, raid and PVP. There's not much "world" left in the game except for solo questing the storylines.
MoP will shake it up.
Only worth it for the story if you read the quests.
Otherwise its just steamrolling through quests and dungeons wich are way to easy.
In dungeons mobs are often dead before you can press tab to select them -.-
If the OP is starting fresh, "no new content" is meaningless...all content will ne new "to them" and therefore there is a TON of content to enjoy while leveling to 85.
To the OP: I would recommend playing if you never got that far before. aAnd try to find a friendly / helpful guild. It makes all the difference in the world as far as having fun.
You're getting a new gaming PC at christmas and you ask if you should look forward to playing a 8 year old game in 6 months time?
Sure - WoW will be a great choice.
We dont need casuals in our games!!! Errm... Well we DO need casuals to fund and populate our games - But the games should be all about "hardcore" because: We dont need casuals in our games!!!
(repeat ad infinitum)
The game was never worth gaming, now more so than ever before.
Maybe not for you, but for many it holds their fondest MMO memories. Not everyone started with UO, DAoC, SWG or EQ. WoW was their first amazing experience into MMOs.
I suppose if you go into the genre with no standards or preconditions, the first thing will always seem great, no matter how mediocre it is.
But now, just as then, there was never a reason to pick WoW over any other MMO. There's not a single feature it has that stands out above the rest.
Care to share your game and what features it has that stands out above the rest? I'll bet it's amazing.
edit: Instead of knocking down other games, tell us what games you consider better.
IMHO, if you have played it before and got bored, nothing has changed that will excite you enough to play it. However, if you have never played it, or haven't played it in years you will most definitely find a good while of fun in it.
There is always the free trial to play if you don't want to fork out money.

Though I can't say for sure, I feel the worst expansion yet is still to come in MoP. I plan to quit before it's released, in fact I haven't even played in the past month and I'm just wasting money on WoW at this point. It's nothing like it used to be. That's just my opinion.
It's a pure shitfest at the moment.
MoP will not change this.
Save your money and go somewhere else, don't bother buying TOR/GW2/Tera or one of the other terds - find a good "normal" game without subs or itam malls with downsyndrome developers.
First time going into it I would definitely say it's worth the time and money. If you already have a max level, then I'd say wait until MoP.
Aside from that, World of Warcraft is the most polished game on the market; it has the most content to see, and is still widely supported. While I still prefer the Sandbox (full loot PvP system!) MMO over the Themepark, WoW truly is the best on the market right now.
No game past (2004 on), present nor the immediate future holds a candle to it in all honesty (and in my opinion). This includes releases this year. With regards to Guild Wars 2, it seems to provide a very nice casual experience whereby everything is chaotic (in a good way) with events everywhere, fun PvP, incredibly challenging dungeons (if the first one is to gauge an experience off of) and content that will always be relevent whenever you want to experience it (or just want to play with a friend). The fact that it doesn't have a subscription fee is also a nice addition (especially if you have another MMO and just want a break from it).
Solo wise I'd go WoW.
With friends I'd go GW2.
While I believe everyone's opinion is valid, if you want to hear the words of some more "influential" online personalities, you can take a look at TotalBiscuit and Jesse Cox's twitch archieved BWE3 streams to hear their opinions. They basically rated WoW higher than everything on the market (even GW2), but also couldn't stop praising GW2 for what it is.
I still question wether I should come back to this game or not, I guess I should just play it and decide after a week once I get a new computer since I only have a netbook now.
So once I reach max level I can Raid, Battlegrounds,Arena and World PVP. Maybe it will be fun, I love sneaking around in Durotar ganking lowbies.
I've played each iteration of the game (Vanilla-BC-WOTLK-Cata) about half as much as the previous one.
The raid finder sounded like a great idea but it was implemented far too late to get me back. I'm skipping MoP. Blizzard is just phoning it in these days. They are too afraid to lose their cash cow. Hopefully Titan will be really innovative.
obviously you read a lot of misinformation about Guild wars 2.
It does not have realm versus realm.
it has factions. The factions are the different servers. gw2 allows guesting on every server, cross server chatting, mailing, trading and guilds.
The only reason for servers is that servers are the factions.
there is 100 times more emotion and sense of purpose involved in world versus world than there ever is in WoW's faction interaction.
It has its own PvP world that is as big as one of warcraft's continents.
So it has world PvP. REAL world pvp. and the map is so huge, you cannot imagine it if you have not seen it.
every part of the world supports 500 versus 500 versus 500 battles.
With siege weapons, castles, supply camps and supply routes.
it also has more PvE content than WoW ever had.
Guild Wars 2's PvE world dwarves WoW's and supports real exploration.
please don't argue lore because you obviously have no idea what you're talking about. None zero zilch nada.
WoW is dropping like a stone cause people do NOT feel any sense of purpose in a carrotstick gear grind MMO.
guild wars 2 dominates concurrent player numbers.
people are sick and tired of artificial player factions that only promote griefing and trolling.
be serious: world pvp in wow is someone questing and getting ganked by a group or 14 year olds.
in gw2 you are all on relatively equal footing in WvW and ganks and fights HAVE A PURPOSE
WoW world PvP HAS NO PURPOSE
until you try GW2, dont judge it -- it will have trial someday
regarding WOW, i recommend returning to it
but you will probably get bored within 3-4 months like you did in the past
