What if there was a monthly fee?

Okay this topic is meant for people who enjoy and like the game, not a topic for people to flame the game though i'm sure they will. I'm not really sure what I would do if there was a monthly fee.

I'm a little down on my luck these days, so having no monthly fee was really a big selling point for getting Guild Wars.  I hope in the future when I am better off I'll be able to try other on-line games with monthly fees.

monthys fees are ok. it just depends on how much do you REALLY play this game. guild wars is a MMORPG that isn't meant to be played in like 10 Hour intervals. it's like one of those, play for an hour and do something else game. so for most people/casual gamers, they wouldn't really get there money's worth.

No way. There is a reason this game is free to play. Sure it has great graphics, good character proffesion/skill setup, but the content and depth would really need an overhall imo. The game is fun to play and its great that its free, but in order to charge people you really have to offer something more than fancy graphics and PvP.

Other than that, GW is a great game and one of the best in its class but I cant compare it to games like DAOC, WoW or EQ just not enough umph.

if this game wasnt free its Player Review would prolly be down a point, being lower then DAoC EVE CoH WoW and EQII, so thats my answer :P   as a free game its great tho

If I had a decent amount of time to play, I'd be willing to pay a monthly fee to play. However, real life interferes, so I usually only get an average of 2-3 hours a day of playtime, which is not worth a monthly fee.

Yes i would pay the fee and still play but then my attitude towards the game would change :) Now i play Guild Wars as a relief and what i mean by that is to use it as a break from the normal routine of daily life :) I want it to be fun not play it in 15 hour sittings. Games seem to get boring that way. Just sharing thoughts. C ya !

I don't play enough to justify paying a monthly fee for any game, not just Guild Wars.

Yea I couldn't see myself still playing GW if there was a monthly fee it's just not enought of a game to put out money every month on. Maybe just maybe if they beefed up the content ALOT, other than that it's just not worth it.

Yes I would pay a monthly fee.  If I wasn't playing GW I would be somewhere blowing my money on something else that I didn't need so it's pretty much six one way half a dozen the other.

I almost didn't play guild wars because I thought I wouldn't be able to expect the same quality a updated content as other games have because of the lack of a monthly fee, so if there was one, it probably wouldn't have bothered me, it's just icing on the cake. Plus, the free aspect brings in all the cheap little kids with no credit cards ::::02::

    No. :)

Coincidently this is one reason (amongst others) why I haven't bothered looking at DDO. Looks like a Guild Wars with a monthly fee.

implementing monthly fees in current game mechanics is a real waste of money. Its not worth the money .vs time spend on it.

If there was a monthly fee for the amount of content they have, I wouldn't buy it.

Gw is more aimed at teenagers and adults who dont have that much time to play video games.   Gw is the best free online game out there imo, but compared to Daoc, EQ2 and EVE online, it doesnt stand a chance.  Having no monthly fee allows more and more people to play it, and that fact that it is the best value game out there. (excluding fps)

If the online price was under $5.00 i think people would still play but they would also lose tons of the people who cant afford monthly.  And when you look at games like runescape and other free games, it owns them all by far!    Summary? GW would still be ranked in the top 10 if they had monthly fee.

As much as I love this game, I do not think I would have picked it up if I had not seen it at E3 and then seen on the store shelf that it still said "Free Online Play." I honestly looked at three games on the shelf at Best Buy: GW, WoW and RYL. GW because I saw it and played some, WoW played a bit and a recommendation from a friend and I looked at RYL based upon a recommendation only. All three I knew would be fun, I could tell from the guide books on the shelf that WoW would be more in-depth, but I ended up paying my $50 to A.Net cause it said "Free Online Play" and it was not for 1-3 months, it will be that way continuously. For the value I have gotten out of Guild Wars, this has been the best investment of money into a video game for me ever (400+ hrs and counting...just now calculating to see I have put more than two weeks of my life into this game and beginning to see why the fiance is a little perturbed::::15::....hmmmmm)

I think they could get away with charging one and they would still have a following, but for what it is, I think the free aspect is the biggest draw. If there had been a monthly fee I would have most likely gone to WoW because of the depth of character. In Guild Wars I knew what I was getting and I could not be happier with the game than I am right now.::::08::

Have fun playing which ever game you play because it is just a game::::35::

No, if it had a monthly fee I would not pay to play it. It's a great game for it's cost and an awesome value.

If I paid to play I would think I need to play more to keep that value. I know when I played DAoC and WoW I almost completely stopped playing all other games... Why? because if I'm not playing the game I'm paying for I'm losing time I paid for.

With GWs... I can still play PS2 or other games without feeling I'm losing money.

Guild Wars is a great game, but it's not a game designed to have a monthly fee. I just can't see myself putting the same time I put into GW as I do any other MMO.
