A question for all you EQII players

I currently play Guild Wars and World of Warcraft and I enjoy them both a lot. But I have to admit that Everquest II looks really good from the screenshots I've seen. Basically, do you think it's worth me getting it as I have 2 games that are pretty good. Forget abnout subscription charges and all that, all Im concerned about is how the game plays.

Currently playing: World of Warcraft. Love the Recruit a Friend program!

Waiting for WAR.

It depends on what kind of gaming rig you have. If you have low end I would say wait till you get something that can handle it. Otherwize you won't be happy. If you have a decent gaming rig I would have to say go for it. The game is gorgeous.

Also I would like to point out that since the last patch and expansion update, I am now eating my words on anything negative I ever said about EQ2. So here it is. I apologize to the EQ2 community. Damn I hate it when I am wrong but SOE really stuck with this game and turned it into something wonderful.

As long as you have 1.4ghz or faster processor. 1gb or more RAM and a decent (GeForce 5700 or better (or equivalent ATI)) video card (recommend you ahve at least 128mb of RAM on the card) the game should run beautifully. I ran it on a 1.8 with 512mb of RAM and a GeForce 5700/256 just fine on BALANCED settings but load times were a bit long in some cases. With my new rig (3.4ghz system w/tons of bells and whistles) the game runs very well on 'high quality' settings.

Personally I think GuildWars is a waste of CD's but that's just me. WoW I hated in Beta and refuse to buy so I have no idea how good it is.

EQ2 was bad in beta and at release but it's so different now it's not even funny. I am very hard pressed to immagine that there's a better Fantasy MMORPG out there. There are others that compare but none that I've seen that are *better*. Other than WoW (Which I have not played since release) I would have to say that EQ2 is currently the best Fantasy MMORPG on the market. And by no means am I a fanboi of the game. At release I wouldn't even buy it and recommended to friends that they wait 6-8 months to buy it.

Now I have it, it's great and lots of fun. Though it's going to require a bit more dedication than GW or WoW will (from what I've read about WoW and what I know of GW).

The graphics plays a big role, but if you cant play with over high quality graphics it is sure fun too. The graphics just give that more fun and excitement to the game :) EQ2 is a good game.. The zones are great designed and big.. the group options is good to - there is alot of instances for groupes.. the solo part is great too.. well, its hard to say wether the game is better than GW and WoW.. but imo I like EQ2 better than WoW.. I play WoW aswell and the better thing about WoW is the PvP.. the PvP in EQ2 is'nt that big yet.. but will be after the devs are thinking on new things in the PvP area.. GW i dont know very well.. the pics are great but after what ive heard the gameplay aint that great.. but, I could be wrong :)

Try the Isle of Refuge free.. and see if its great :)

I played this game back after release, though I read that a lot of it has changed. I would probably go back to playing the game myself if it wern't for 2-3 games I'm very hyped about that are goming out in the next few months. But, should they not be what I expect based on my sources, I might find myself playing EQ2. Anyways, I'm not sure how the pasing of the game is now or going to be with the EQ2 combat update. Back when I played it was too slow for my tastes. Usualy I'd always find those groups of people who start out on an adventure and daminish before you really get to accomplish a lot, so I'd end up having to solo which useto be a bit pointless. I also felt disapointed when I reached level 20 and became a shadowknight. In most games when you advance to the next class ranking, you got several abilities and things that made you feel like a new class, however at level 20 I got two new abilities, a horse and that Touch Harm thing. Great, I was a crusader with a horse and ONE ability that resembles a shadowknight. When I promote, I expect to change play style and not have to wait 10 more levels before you can really see the difference between me and a Paladin. Hopefully in the new system they'll make you feel more like you've upgraded into a new class rather than gained a fancy tittle and a ponyimage

You haven't played in a looong time by the sounds of things. Only one way to find out how the changes are is trying it yourself. I believe you get 7 days free re-activation still so give it a try, you have nothing to lose but the memory of how the game used to be.

I try and be pretty objective in these forums even though I'm fairly easy to please. I mean, they're freakin video games, they're just all about fun and I love them. I can't overstate how much better EQ2 is now even without the combat revamp, they just added so much content. And now with the combat revamp, the game plays more like a hardcore game and less like a zergfest than ever before.

I wanted EQ2 to be EQ2, instead after release you got an entirely different game which actually played much much easier. Now, it's really Everquest 2!!

Quit WoW and buy EQ2. I just recently did that after playing WoW since launch. Sick of the wall you hit at 60, and everything after being so repetative its ridiculous. EQ2 has been a BLAST for me. And the community is awesome.

This game is so different from when it was released. I had my doubts shortly after release how long I would be playing, but it really is a great game now.

    I disagree.

EQ2 WAS a decent game until the latest ultra-nerf-destroy change-the-entire-game patch. The entire game has radically changed, again. It is now less-fun than SWG. That took time, effort, and planning to screw the game up to such a massive scale.

Go read the boards, being mindful they are deleting negative posts as they are posted.

If you were 45+, the changes were OK.

Starting out it is going to grind you into the ground. Anyone that says different has a 50 main passing down gear and adept III's like candy. These are flatly out of reach of any normal player at that level.

There will be NO ONE to group with and grouping is pretty much ordered by SOE for this game. (I routinely do who all 20 25 and get 4 or 5 players on the ENTIRE server. It is the same for most of the pre-40's crowd. You will be surprised when you see someone unless you are at one of the EQ2 mandated bottlenecks which are camped, always.)

They removed 3/4 of the solo content and vastly increased the pain factor. (This game already had the highest "beat-the-player" factor of any game I've ever played sans original UO.)

If you were 50, I guess it was great. Pre-50, they pulverized you.

They control, rabidly, the entire experience from day one. There is no originality, not but one way to play. You do what they want when they want how fast they want or the game grinds you to hamburger.

GW is a better game PVE even though it isn't really a PVE game. WoW is far better if you solo.

The above is said with a caveat... if you have a guild of 50's already nursing you through the game it works out. The devs designed it to be beyond the casual player by default. (By basing their baseline on equipment a first-character cannot acquire.) Or I suppose you could also drop $100.00 or so on gold to afford stuff to get into the 40's where I hear it isn't so bad.

Also, since they introduced power-leveling, I guess you could just have someone PL you like all the 50's alts will be doing now. That shouldn't take long. So I guess that's a "benefit".

I've now given up on that game twice and I won't EVER go back.

They'll be rolling up servers soon I feel because the servers were empty pre-patch and now they'll be desolate. (I would log in during peak raid hours and every server would be at low. Time after time.)

    Lemme put it this way
    I don't have a single character over level 35
    I love the CU

I started over recently on a new server with a new toon because a friend is playing there.
I love the CU, I do not have any troubles playing the game is as good as ever.

Have you even TRIED to learn to play with the changes or are you just knee-jerking your reaction?

I had left the game. I came back to try it with my '7 day free' reactivation. And I loved it.

CU is awesome. Classes look, feel and act different now. Before everyone was just a clone within the same archetype.

    Have a nice day.
