Trying to Unlock stuff for GW2 but game is UNplayable(Video Inside)

AerowynAerowyn Member Posts: 7,928

I never had this issue before when I played this game years ago but now it's unplayable I don't know what is going on I have no issues with other online games and GW2 ran great this past beta weekend

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_SzpjirkNp8&feature=youtu.be

any ideas?

System 2600k Cpu @ 4.5 ghz, gtx 670, ssd, 8gb ram

50Mbit comcast cable connection

windows 7 ultimate with latest nvidia drivers

this is NOT an alt-tab issues I read many people having same problem with alt-tab but this happens to me as soon as I log in no tabbing out even in windowed it still happens.

I angered the clerk in a clothing shop today. She asked me what size I was and I said actual, because I am not to scale. I like vending machines 'cause snacks are better when they fall. If I buy a candy bar at a store, oftentimes, I will drop it... so that it achieves its maximum flavor potential. --Mitch Hedberg

That's pretty rough. I experience simillar warping but only after al-tabbing a lot or having some memory intesive apps running in the background. I suppose in your case restarts/reboot didn't help at all, so not sure what else can help. Might try running the fix thingy and see if something didn't get corrupted in the files.

Also, my first run on Win8 RC was very laggy, sorted itself after restart tho.

Hm.. It's not lag since your ping is fine.

Did you notice this after alt-tabbing the game? Does the rezoning solve the problem?

There might be a problem with your connection. Have you tried running ping/jitte/packet loss tests?

Your average ping might be alright but if your jitter is high (the variability in your ping) or have some packet loss you can get choppy online gameplay.

    i dont really know

have you tried patching the game with the -image option?

    ie

    "C:Program Files (x86)Guild WarsGw.exe" -image

Definitely looks like something is happening server side.  This happened to me on TSW and Tera several times which made PVP , pve everything horrible.

In my 3 years with GW1 I experienced this only when alt tabbing but it would fix itself after rezoning or by itself after a minute or two.

it doesn't go away i ran around for an hour and it did this the whole time... tried deleteing the game folder and redownloading and same thing...  I haven't played in years but never remember having this problem back then

    the image option does this

    http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Command_line_arguments

    -image

Forces the game to load all known updates.

The program terminates after the update is completed; Guild Wars will not be able run with this parameter on.
Recommended: Create an extra Guild Wars shortcut (e.g. "Guild Wars Updater") specifically to use this command line switch.
-image updates gw.dat; after updating, that file can be be transferred over to other machines.
There can be up to 4 gigabytes of data to download. Once -image completes, the exact file size of gw.dat will vary across installations.

OK, try different server. This is serious if it keeps happening after the reinstall.

Wanna meet up ingame, I'm curious if that would happen while we play together?

This is definately not the "usual" clientside problem with lagging heroes/henchmen (re-zoning or minimize/maximize/fullsceen will solve that.)

Ping may be fine but linequality could be a problem. Do you by chance have a router that forwards port via UPnP? If so, either check /clear the forwarding table, or just reboot the router.

We dont need casuals in our games!!! Errm... Well we DO need casuals to fund and populate our games - But the games should be all about "hardcore" because: We dont need casuals in our games!!!

This happens to me when I alt-tab out. I found that you can get it to go back to normal if you alt tab in and out a few times, but it's still annoying.

Some people claimed that putting the game in windowed mode and back fixes it but it didn't for me.

It's defininately client side though. You'll know that when your heroes are stronger because they will have killed everything while you (and them) are popping around the place.

I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy every minute of it.

i do use UPnP ill check that as well thanks.. still re-downloading the game using -image only at 6% so will be a few

I also heard that installing DirectX 9.0c solved it for some people

I recomend you ask other people ingame playing in your area if they have the same problem, so you will know if this is a server issue or your connection, cause that is clearly lag. Can be your router port configuration, but this usually block the connection to the game.... Not really helpfull =_=u

Anyway, not so rough, but all the times I've been playing this year or the past I have to say there are really more problems with GW servers than before.

There's another thing you can try as well if all else fails. Try forcing high priority.

Create a shortcut and put this in the target field:

    C:WindowsSystem32cmd.exe /c start/high D:GamesGuildWarsGw.exe

The bit in yellow needs changing to your personal path to the exe

You also need to make sure the game folder doesn't have a space in it i.e Guild Wars won't work, GuildWars will.

There shouldn't be any quotation marks in it.

download at 25% so will give a shot if nothing else works thanks:)

This is caused when you have the screen maximized and alt-tab out, then go back in.  Go full-screen windowed before alt-tabbing out and you'll be fine.

If in 1982 we played with the current mentality, we would have burned down all the pac man games since the red ghost was clearly OP. Instead we just got better at the game.

From what I remember, GW puts all of its data into a file called GW.dat or something similar, which can get pretty huge (a few gig as I remember)

After patching, I always used to find that it fragmented horribly, so got into the habit of running Power Defragmenter frequently on my guild wars directory - that helped me , I think....

Edit: I used to also run with the -image tag ...needed to do that to make it playable too

i use a solid state drive so no need to defrag.. right now i ran with the -image just waiting for it to finish at 56% now
