So its OK to kick someone in the balls while playing a football match because it makes you happy?

  • ShiftytShiftyt Member Posts: 24

Haha don't hate you. Just don't mistake advantage for skill.

No, because that would be against the rules. On the other hand, punching an opponent in the face in a boxing fight is okay, no matter if one person has severe advantage over the other one. The key element is "consent".

Bit of an odd analogy. Ofc it isn't okay to kick someone in the balls when playing a football match because it is completely against the rules

I came in this thread being sure OP does not know the origin of word gank to educate him how a pray needs to be in minority to it's hunter(s) to be able to get ganked. (I know it should realy be me to accept that language is always evolving).

But reading OP I very much forgot why I came here and have mostly concured to it's content and message.

    Keep on rollin!

@ OP: sorry to tell you, but ganking is nothing cool

this post is like you made a thread about how you love to kick babies out of their seats in RL.

if you have skill, try to go against players who arent like 100 lvls below you.

if not, stop bothering us - no one wants to hear that you can kill lows, that's just not impressive... no matter if you think it or not - IT JUST ISN'T!

uh and back in the "good old days" there was no console to play RPGs on. you aren't as old as you think you are.

what do you get from killing enemies that can't defend themselves? nuff said. you sir, you suck. plain and simple.

uh and no, i am not angry, i am the kind of player that loggs on to his main to avange his low lvl toon... and i surely am good enough to kill a simple ganker. sorry, been there, done that, you guys are just boring. no challange - THAT'S why you go for the lows. as soon an even char stands vs you. you run, log out, or just die.

been there, dont that. coz THAT'S the real fun. ganking the gankers.

yes, i am the player who waits on your corps for an hour then after you killed my priest and no, you will not get away, out of 100 maybe 1 did, and you dont sound like that one.

"believe me, mike.. i calculated the odds of this working against the odds that i was doing something incredibly stupid… and i did it anyway!"

Geez you two are so stiff, ganking has been permitted in some great PVP centric MMORPGs, not the least being DAOC, EVE, Lineage 2, Shadowbane and even WOW.

Hate ganking, but don't hate the games

Personally I see nothing wrong with ganking.  It's just 'smart PvP'.  If you wanted to PvP 'by the rules' you would be in a battleground or arena.  I am staunchly anti-PvP but if I ever find myself in an open-world PvP situation I will try to kill the opponent without giving him/her a chance to fight back.  It's just good tactics.

if you attacked me or a friend and i am able to get you back, i will, as many times as i can. if i can make you log out by camping you, then i feel the vendetta is complete, and only then.

if i don't want this kind of experience, i don't play on a pvp server. it is clear (to me at least) that this is normally the only difference between pvp and pve servers. so i don't see the problem with any of it, under any circumstances.

most games i pick a pvp server, even though i am not that competitive. i enjoy the excitement of pvp servers because it adds a random element of danger to the games. early into my mmo days, i engaed in as much pvp as possible, but after time, i only fight those who attack me and befriend those who want peace, even with the enemy faction. still, if you make an enemy of me, i want to ruin your day (only in terms of the game), plain and simple.

only game where i actually hated the pvp server was EQ2. they banded together in packs, drank shrink potions, and raided the noob zone non-stop. it was like the Christmas Critters. pure evil. and the combat in that game was so dull that it was not worth it for me (played eq2 only for housing).

Funny thread, so full of emotions and hurting bottoms. Seems a lot of carebear types have strong opinions about PvP games/servers even though they apparently avoid them at all cost. Why do you expect PvP rulesets to respect your fear of pixel death? I mean I don't expect PvE rulesets to respect my desire to kill other players...

Also, some posters have entirely missed the whole point of open/ffa PvP. It's not about "fair" fights, it's about risk vs reward, a sense of danger that adds excitement even to mundane tasks like gathering and traveling. It's about in-game politics, warfare, metagaming. It involves skill on several levels, not just mastering the combat controls.

But I guess you'll never understand that if you think that PvP is all about e-sports and "fair" fights.

Miss the point? More like .. don't like the point.

So what if i like e-sport and arena pvp. Devs seems to "respect" that rule-set. In fact, the whole game LOL was designed based on that ... and it is immensed popular.

Who says what pvp is about? When i play pvp, it is about what i want it to be about ... NOT your preference.

Are you telling me you love the "danger" of being repeatedly killed/camped by higher level with no recourse? That is not danger, nor there is any reward ... the only thing there is frustration. If you like that, be my guess and vote with your wallet. I will vote with mine.

The key point of all opinion threads is "who decides?", yes?

That's what devs get paid for.

The best we can do is supply an opinion when asked, and try to keep the name-calling to a minimum.

Its funny reading all these carebear posts.

If they had it there way, any form of PvP aside from instanced battlegrounds would be outlawed.

But what we’re targeting to do, is have a fun anniversary to the Ilum shenanigans that happened. It's even funnier watching piss poor pvp try-hards attempting to defend what they consider to be pvp, when it is actually just an online form of bullying.

    Griefer =/= Ganker.

And I don't mind if someone corpse camps me. I write there name down on my litle KOS sheet and when I am there level/same gear etc. I find them and do the same thing to them. Sorry your so sensitive that you can't enjoy  the excitement a PvP server brings to the table. But thats what PvE servers are for.

I'm a "ganker" too if you will. Ever since I was in my level 20s and my friend taking me to southshore on WoW, I experienced world pvp and absolutely loved it. There was a certain thrill about killing someone in the open world and knowing you pissed them off..this was made extra funny for me as I used to go around with my friend and in voice chat he had the most sadistically funny laugh he'd do after every kill.

Despite this though, I just can't understand the fun in going around one shotting lowbies. Outside of that, everything is fair game for me.. I particially love ganking people, leaving them on 1% health then letting mobs finish them off for durability loss.

I suck at pvp but i love games that are wpvp or ffa pvp. I like the thrill i get from being in constant danger. You all want to know what i do if a ganker or griefer is around? I group up and play in a party. I know what your thinking out there. This guy plays an mmo in a party so he doesnt get ganked? That is absurd.

Real PvP enthusiasts.... lawl who sayed I preyed on weaker opponents? Only time I kill lowbies is if there being stupid and venture into a higher level zone. Only reason this even happens is because I dont check peoples gear/level/awareness before I pvp them......If you want that style of OWPVP then you should move to Korea.

I'll admit to ganking from time to time. It's just the way of the road.

you cant understand ganking lowbies, but you enjoy grouping up and ganking up on people.  Gankers allways justify with their own little rules. taking pleasure in ruining other peoples playing pleasure is exactly what this thread is about.  Mememe(no ability to empathise) mememe?

    rpg/mmorg history: Dun Darach>Bloodwych>Bards Tale 1-3>Eye of the beholder > Might and Magic 2,3,5 > FFVII> Baldur's Gate 1, 2 > Planescape Torment >Morrowind > WOW > oblivion > LOTR > Guild Wars (1900hrs elementalist) Vanguard. > GW2(1000 elementalist), Wildstar

The good news is that there are always PvE games and i don't have to deal with gankers.

Er, well I didn't play any of the games you listed (except WOW) longer than the free month (except giving EVE like 4 separate one-more-week tries given all the hype around it.)  And even in WOW world PVP was trash I eventually learned to always roll PVE servers in MMORPGs.

Personally I never heard the term ganking before MMORPGs.  This correlates with my definition of ganking which has always been "PVPing someone PVEing".

You would never call "ganging up" ganking pre-MMORPGs, because that was simply teamwork -- there was no need for a special term.
