Top 5 Biggest letdown discussions

JimmyYOJimmyYO Member UncommonPosts: 519

Post your opinions here, I'll begin:

1. Final Fantasy XIV (hardly play tested at all and it shows, clunky game in general)

2. Diablo 3 (12 years in the making with very little content, somehow still rushed)

3. Warhammer (too many server issues and conflicting pvp mechanics)

4. Vanguard (created for computers that didnt exist, the original would still lag on 98% of computers)

5. SWTOR (yet another example of WoW clones not working, story is only reason to play)

    1) TESO

my heart was never filled and then broken so violently, so quickly. i heard they were making it and my heart filled with joy, then i saw the screenies and read about the combat....and my heart was broken. i had been dreaming of this for years. this was supposed to be THE one. the best damn rpg turned into an online world of awesomeness.... instead it's just gonna be one other one.

    2) SWTOR

i dont even know where to begin, therfore i will just end.

    3) WARHAMMER

it all sounded so flippen good. it all started soo damn good. it all went bad so fast.....why?! oh why?

    4) FINAL FANTASY 14

i'm not even sure why i was really looking forward to this, but i was. and it was horrendous.

    5) PANDARIA (WOW)

i was really hoping for a serious, thorough, rejuvinating  WoW revamp here, instead there will be pandas.....seriously? pandas? ...ffs..

Ya, awesome pandas... I really don't get why every type of animal can be turned into an MMO race. But Panda's is a sin.

    1. Vanguard - Many of us had hopes this would be the next EQ

    2. Rift - Literally felt like I was playing WoW....the entire game felt like it was paste and copy from other MMOs.

    3. TSW - THought it would be alot better than it was....Combat and animations were just awful

    4. AoC - This game was incredibly boring to me....I thought even Tortage sucked

    5. LoL - I dont see what people find so thrilling about this one either.....Point and click pvp blows and just not much fun about it.

not sure if sarcastic, or joking....so i'll take the bait and try to explain. the ONLY adjective i can think of when i think of pandas is "cute", the ONLY adjective i do not want in my mmo is "cute".

cute is for 12 year old girls, and....asian people, and not even all asian people!

i really cannot make it any clearer.

  • You must have been distraught at vanilla launch when it turned out Gnomes were in, then.

It must also be heartbreaking for someone who feels TERA + GW2 would be the best MMO on the market when they have Popori and Asura. Races that literally dwarf pandarens in cuteness.

    1. LotRO, easily. It was supposed to be a sandbox game set in Middle Earth. I played the alpha. Lots of ideas and innovative features, fantastic dev team and community who understood socializing in MMOs. Then Turbine retooled it to be just like WoW, got rid of the old devs, and fractured the community. They destroyed the best MMO community I've ever seen.

    2. Vanguard - Because it really should have been great, and still is. It's just SoE screwed it up. It still has so much potential.

    3. SWG - The pre launch hype was insane, but the launch was a disaster. It almost stablized and became a great game... but then they added the Jedi system, which was awful. And then the NGE.

    4. Aoc - It sounded great on paper, then in beta Funcom axed most of its good features to make way for WoW features, and added tons of instancing, gimped the melee combat to be easier because WoW raiders couldn't handle it... ugh.

    5. Dark Age of Camelot 2 - Because it never came out.

What was SOE's screw up with Vanguard?

    1. SW:TOR, as a long term tester involved in the out of house beta program since its inception, this one hurt the most. A lot of good feedback was ignored, and a lot of strange decisions were made. Many a core tester who posted often found themselves baffled by some changes while applauding others. In the end, the combination of listening here and not listening there did not work and the game fell short for me and for many others. I was among those touting it as the next great thing, words I was forced to ingest in a nice homeade humble pie.

    2. Vanguard. I was a part of the F&F Alpha, Beta and then launch. It was just too damned daring on the engine they chose. So much energy spent revamping Unreal 2 into what they dubbed their "2.5" version. It just didn't work. I remember Alpha beginning and we could not move half the damned time. Players would spawn and would only be able to stand and chat at times, other times we would hiccup. These hiccups would plague the game from alpha to launch. Hitching, they called it. Between that and blaringly painful things like *cough helms not working until post launch graphically cough* the game was a hard beast to love. And yet love it still I do. Biggest disappointment until my time with SWTOR.

    3. Diablo 3. I wanted to love this game I really did. But Blizzard seems hell bent on nerfing fun into the ground. If players are doing it (and not not talking about exploits, talking about various "runs") they will nerf it. Hell they are even talking about nerfing Magic Find.....in the series that invengted MF Gear.....

    4. Hellgate London. I loved it, it crapped, I was a lifer, it crapped. I believe I have said my part about this on too many a forum, I will leave this one be. Hanbitsoft is about to rerelease it as Resurrection, but it may just be too old in GFX and playstyle to stick.

    5. Everquest 2. As a former hardcore crafter in this game. Eliona Felloak, first 10 outfitter Antonia Bayle, xferred to Neriak on day 2 when it opened. First Level 20,30,40,50 woodworker on my server. Part of a small group that ran high level interdependency crafting, the day the Wowified was the start of the downfall of my fun with that game, I spent 9 months doing nothing but grinding boards and tier grinding, to be the best and sell the best. And they made it so everyone could do their own subcomponents half as well. That I was fine with, our team was faster and made better quality by sharing still. Then they made it mats only WoW style....and I still stayed like a sucker til 60, and 70....I finally got it in my head that the old guard crafters were no longer needed and once mergers happened I had lost many friends. So I finally left.

Those are my 5. I have one more I could put in, but I got a lot of time out of that game. I had years of fun, and only got screwed when everyone else did. And I never wanted my #1 on my list to be "that game" 2.0. So I chose not to place that tirade in this thread lest people confuse my intentions. In fact I was against some 2.0 ideas people asked for, while I would have been fine with the inclusion of others if they had been,

What was SOE's screw up with Vanguard?

They pushed it out the door 8 months earlier than agreed upon, the same week as the Burning Crusade launch. Then, they bought out the dev company, fired most of the people, and put the game in maintainence mode. Then they put someone in charge who, slowly, with a small team, over the course of 3 years, made it more and more and more like WoW.

They didn't advertise it, or develop it seriously, for about 4 years.

It should also be said with out SOE Vanguard would of probably been dead before release. So without SOE Vanguard had a good chance of becoming Vaporware since Microsoft dropped Sigil during development.

So the choices would be to have no Vanguard, or have a poorly supported Vanguard.

Both result in a dead Vanguard. At least without SoE someone else a bit less moronic would have picked up the game.

    2. SWTOR

    3. Anarchy Online (as release. so much potential gone because the game didn't work)

    4. Vanguard

    5. Final Fantasy XIV (never played it, but with an IP that big, there is no excuse for colossal failure)

5 games I did not like

    1. SW:TOR

    2. WOW

    3.  Star Trek online

    4. Rune Scape

    5. DC Universe online

I am playing TSW and EVE right now.   I miss Earth and Beyond.  I guess I am fond of it because it was my first love in MMORPG's.

    I dont know if i have 5...

I avoid the hype frenzy so im never dissapointed, and if a game looks like its going to be a mess i avoid it untill later, like AoC, played it a year after launch and it was fantastic, used that as an example since i see it on most lists.

I was really dissapointed in The Chronicals of Spellborn, it was a great game and had an actual unique combat system and combat mechanic...forget the exact details of how it was shut down but if i can recall either acclaim went down the tubes and took the game with it or acclaim just shut it down for really no reason...anyway was dissapointed to see a game with something unique mechanically get shut down.

Was dissapointed with Tabula Rasa, as it seemed to be a different game and i missed playing it before it was shut down...really wish i had played it.

Sorry if my list doesnt include any games that you all over hyped then realized they were just games, i really dont go that route.
