I'm sorry if this is a re-post. Playing the various beta weekends, I occasionally activated combos moves on different characters, but I never really understood how I was doing it or took the time to figure out the system.
I just came across this video which explains it nicely. Pretty awesome additional layer to the combat, I must say.

nice video
Philosophy of MMO Game Design
this is a great video, something that was never really explained to well, i knew that there were cross class combos but when i read "combo finisher" it left me scratching my head thinking that it meant if you do a combo of attacks that it would do something special that i was never doign right.
Now that was a very informative and well made video. The kind of video that more people need to see.

This is one of those "depth" things GW2 has. There is going to be a lot of learning and working together to nail all this stuff down. Nailing this stuff down I am sure could create some pretty awesome combinations instead of "just on accident".
Nice one
Block the trolls, don't answer them, so we can remove the garbage from these forums
Excellent stuff..... combo fields where one of those things that i dont tried as much as i would liked to in the beta..! after this vid, im have a better understanding of the protocol.
Very good video. Another layer of depth to keep in mind while playing
FYI - Most combo fields only last a second or two, they need to increase the duration substantially to reward coordination in pulling them off.
Or allow the boons of combos to stack (in duration).
They do stack.
Combo fields are one of the main tactics sPvP teams use at the start of a match, to give the entire team 15-30seconds of swiftness & stealth. It works really really well, and if you know what you are doing you can stack the boons in a way to make them last well passed your cooldowns.
Nice video, wish he would've gone into more specifics, but here's a link detailing more about the types of moves you get access to:

Good video, thanks for sharing.
If in 1982 we played with the current mentality, we would have burned down all the pac man games since the red ghost was clearly OP. Instead we just got better at the game.
Great video. I've been looking for a way to explain some of the complexities of combat to some friends who plan to play but haven't been tracking the game closely. This was perfect.
But... but I thought GW2 was a WoW clone with no innovation! Or thats what the haters would lead you to believe.

Best MMO of all time: Asheron's Call - The first company to recreate AC will be the next greatest MMO.
I'm pretty hyped after seeing this kind of depth built into the combat system. Just makes a lot of very interesting team-play possibilities, of really fine tuning the way that you work with others.
nice video
What happens when you log off your characters????.....

Dark Age of Camelot
Some do , most don't.
For example all the armor buffs you can get, Ice Fire and Chaos don't last long enough to read the tool tip.
They have also nerfed alot of the starting sPvP combo's as well ... so I'm not sure what direction they are taking combo's in general. Some fields do stack in duration, most last so short of time that stacking the duration basically means you only have the effect until the field disappears ... and keeping that effect up requires cooldowns.
Currently combo fields are for the most part a gimic, increase the duration and they will be worth building around.
Guess I need more experience with the other classes but the ones I played the most, Mesmer and Necromancer, their combo fields do last quite a bit. Wells 8 seconds, there are 4 of them. The Elite mesmer skill last a whooping 10 and the Mesmer field on the staff lasts about 5 seconds. Not counting the walls which last 5 seconds each.
Remember... all I'm offering is the truth. Nothing more.
There are about 58 Combo Fields in the game and I counted:
2-4 seconds: 16
5-7 seconds: 13
8-10 seconds: 16
15 seconds: 2
duration not listed in tooltip: 11
